'Koltun' stands as a fascinating chapter in the story of Perfect Stranger's album, "Broadcasting & Receiving." Originating around 2010-2011, 'Koltun,' Russian for "Hair Knot," was initially a tribute to Guess Who's 'Song.' However, creating a composition with multiple key changes and count shifts proved ambitious given dancefloor demands. To make it more manageable, I retained the bassline groove and key changes, omitting the original samples for its debut.
In the autumn of 2022, while attending Ziohm Festival in Brazil, a melody in Captain Hook's set jogged my memory. At first, I couldn't locate what it reminded me of but eventually, it came to me that It resembled good old 'Koltun.' Upon this realization, I decided to revive the track, modernizing its sound while retaining its essence. Initially intended for live performances, the rejuvenated version evolved over time. I incorporated elements like an Egyptian band and a violin solo, accompanied by vocal fragments and singing. I also experimented with increasing the tempo, making it adaptable for Perfect Stranger sets. However, the vocal accompaniment was eventually removed, and the composition underwent refinements, including a dynamic snare roll.
