This unit is working great with my 1999 Grand Cherokee. I had to make sure to order the single DIN version. It looks really sharp. I'm glad you said that it started up quickly because mine was taking a full minute. After looking at the settings, I found mine was set to shut down after 30 seconds. I now have it on sleep mode and wakes right up after starting the car.
You probably don't experience this because you're in a warm climate, but I can definitely see it overheating in a place like here in Michigan where we have to have the heat running all winter. As an Uber driver, I constantly run into that issue having my Pixel mounted by the vents.
I have had a android unit from eBay and it’s so great! I had a JVC before that, and it sucked compared to this. I want the floating tablet style because I want my car to look like a Tesla haha
Hey do a updated video of this please.. i watch this one and the other one like 50 times .. it would be great to see a follow up on it after like 7 months
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I just installed this in my 2013 Corolla. The install was relatively easy, it looks great, and most importantly it sounds amazing.

"for a hundred bucks people know what they are getting" was your quote, but the unit at the amazon link you provided is $500 not $100 so at $500 it better be great!!!
Just bought a Kenwood DDX9005S a couple weeks ago and it has been pretty great. It is a double din setup but doesn't have the huge screen, looks and sounds great. Had I known about this radio before hand I would have seriously considered getting it. I do like the look of it, one thing the Kenwood possibly has over the radio in the video is that the Kenwood supports wireless Android auto. You can just fire it up with the phone in your pocket (if you have a supported phone, luckily I did). I don't have to mess around with wires at all. However while the Kenwood does have the enhanced TTPS (tire pressure monitoring) it wasn't as slick as what you had. It showed tire pressure in each tire but only sometimes?? It's still a new unit so I'm not sure what is going on there but it sorta works. I suspect it is a limitation of the OEM system, I wonder if I can get that adapter for my Kenwood and make it work. Still this radio does look really great, I think I'd prefer a smaller screen that fit in the DIN area personally. That aside if I was to do it all again it would be a coin flip on which way I would go.
Mouka Faslouka There are nearly identical units of most popular android phones on eBay and they are garbage. Probably no difference with the *almost identical* to these units either. If you buy one... please come back and let us know how they work for you. 👀 But that may not be why you made that comment? 🤔😛
The feature and functionality looks great. However as you mentioned, the unit blocks the vent. To me that is a big issue especially when it's cold outside. That means I have to leave the two vents closed to avoid pushing all the hot air at the unit.
Thanks for the update video. Looks like a great unit. I really like the size and responsiveness. But I think the covering the vents my be a deal breaker for me probably. Also are those tire readings correct. Your tires are way off on pressure. Lol. Thx again!
Have you tried looking at the screen wearing polarised sunglasses? I have what looks like the same unit sold by Polaris in Australia. The screen blacks out when wearing my sun glasses. This is the only issue I have with it. The Polaris Unit is more adjustable as it can be moved up and down and has a ball type swivel mount to turn the screen towards you. It is marketed with off road navigation as well. Other than that I am sure it is the same. Check out the Polaris site.
Google Android stereo, plenty on Amazon and eBay for under $100. Make sure to get the retrofit kit which replaces factory surround between the oem stereo and air vents etc.
I'm interested in knowing the following: 1) Do such units passively consume car battery? Meaning, let say I leave my car unused for 5 days. Will the battery die? 2) When I start my car from cold start and go into reverse mode -? How long does it take to show me my rear cameras? The stock unit is instant.
I've had mine for 6 months. My car may sit for 3 or 4 days I've not seen any effect on my car battery. My rear camera is instantaneous when I shift into reverse out of my garage. The grid guide lines may not be there but the camera is fully functional.
I will do my own install. I plan to turn my hotspot and use the head unit for music, videos, maps and android auto. I plan to plug my phone in to the unit via hdmi (with dongle) and/or usb.
Is it possible to install a car monitoring app, like Torque, and have it connect to a OBD device with Bluetooth? And is it possible to have it autostart that app maybe?
So I have a question about the boot up time it always says system something than android... A little bit different than what you show in the video with it coming on just instantly is that in the settings.. Every time I turn on and off my car and it has been off for a while it needs to boot up.
Does this head unit just use your phones signal for apps to work (RU-vid, etc.) or do you have to turn your phone into a hotspot and connect your head unit to it?
You have to hotspot it, for getting internet, but mine rarely connects to internet, because my daily Spotify is downloadet for offline use. You could buy a WiFi dongle, and an simcard for 4g. I also always have bluetooth on my phone, so itll connect automatically when i drive
i got a similar one installed but they didnt connect my wheel steering volume controls. I can't increase and lower the volume from the wheel what can i do to get this installed correctly the guy says that its glitchy to do the wheel controls, but i think he just didnt know how.. can you lead me to a video that shows me how to install this for myself or some tips on how to do it? love all your videos by the way.
0:14 "HOW IT AFTER THE THAT FRESH INSTALL HIGH? " Really...just fantastic effort dude. Really great to see people taking the time to make sure their videos are decent quality. Couldn't spare a couple minutes to watch your own video to at least double check spelling and grammar?
I use an app called macrodroid, it gets the phone to turn on the hotspot when you set the rule of being connected to the Bluetooth (and off when disconnected)
You offer a decent review, but I do question your logic in blaming the head unit for blocking your air conditioner vents. It isn't a con against the stereo for being so big. I believe that the best compromise would have been for you to get a smaller head unit to accommodate the air conditioner vent flow. Just saying!
I totally agree with you. The reason why I didn't stressed on it was because the fact it was a universal headunit. Car's interiors/dashboards vary so much that I didn't want that to be the biggest con.
toyota and subaru use the same harness so it should be pretty easy. The harness: www.aliexpress.com/item/Dasaita-DYX004-Car-DVD-Audio-Wire-Harness-Adapter-for-Toyota-Corolla-Camry-Prado-RAV4-Hilux-Factory/32911960224.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.1.4265597fwfyhXj&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4_10065_10068_204_10130_318_5727318_10547_10546_10059_10884_10548_10545_10887_10696_100031_10084_10083_10103_10618_452_10307_532_5727218,searchweb201603_60,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=665a6c09-f066-471f-b683-2662e72ce1a4-0&algo_pvid=665a6c09-f066-471f-b683-2662e72ce1a4&priceBeautifyAB=0 the unit: www.amazon.com/Dasaita-Adjustable-Navigation-Universal-Bluetooth/dp/B073RDPS3C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1536867168&sr=8-2&keywords=dasaita&linkCode=ll1&tag=8324894-20&linkId=8890cc52f949e6a6afa4456cff3cb34f&language=en_US
pd 329 for mine, xtrons 10.1in been using it about a year in my truck.. it's ok, but the voltage on the rca out is pretty weak, I have to use a line level booster.. I actually rooted my unit and took out all the ads.. never even used a cd or dvd.. it lacks a lot of fine tuning for the crossover, I have a big 3700w system.. only thing it has is an eq, no real adjustment like a kenwood.. tried using viper4android and it puts out a lot of distortion..
Need to know if it's got rca signal outputs for a dedicated front, rear and subwoofer amplifiers if so are the signal outputs 2 volts or 4 volts. If all of these options are available on this head unit only then I will call it a premium head unit and buy it.
Hey John. I have an external DSP in my car too. I went with the Helix DSP Pro MkII for a couple of reasons one is that it had a great feature set but the biggest was that it offered a digital audio input. I won't get into the benefits of that. It will simply make this way too long but suffice it to say that is what every other division of the audio industry has been doing for a while. A long while actually. What it would basically require is the ability for the headunit to support an external sound card via a connection like USB. My DSP can access USB direct with an upgrade card that Helix makes. Android has had external sound card support since like Android 4 I am told but I can't seem to find 1 single head unit that will send audio out a USB port. It almost sounds like on a manufacturing level it has been purposefully disabled but why? Maybe you know someone or something about that?
Manapua808 😱 I have an Frs(which is basically the same as a brz) and this guy’s lady friend’s brz didn’t have too many problems. Other than that, did the android radio sound different than the factory radio?
Is the screen removable? I had an android unit made just for my car from Ali-E and it worked great for a year but I think the cold winter nights killed it. The screen just stopped working. I love this design but it would be great if I could take the screen inside at night.
Need a single DIn so one won't work for me. The specs look pretty much the same as the lesser known Idoing that you reviewed. The Idoing however is quite a bit cheaper. Is the Idoing a step down in quality or are they similar as the specs would seem to indicate? Thnx for all your reviews . They are very helpful.
Is it flippable to vertical orientation? Also, how does it integrate with vehicle info? I. E., If I stuck this in my ram would it display vehicle info like the OEM does?
I would like to know...how long is the boot time?? Will i have to wait one or more minutes for that thing to boot up...i saw reviews where the usb ports stopped working when it gets cold...units dying and beeing overall very laggy...better buy a two din pioneer for 500 dollars...or make it 600 and have a product that really might outliive your car...
How can I update my head unit to the last Android version?? When I try to update it from the system always say no avalible new version. And its Android 8.0
I got a dasaita 1din 10.2 android 8.0 universal head unit. i conect it to my car bmw1 e88. but the head unit keeps rebooting everytime. then it plays 1 minute , then 5 minutes . .... what can i do please . i m from Belgium. i hope i get an answer. thank you very much already
It's crazy how much more advanced these android head units are compared to mainstream manufacturers like Alpine or Pioneer. The only question is long term reliability (over 1 year). Quick question, do you miss a volume knob or is it a non-issue? Great vids man keep up the good work! Your videos are the most consistent and informative i've found on Android head units.
Hey Camilo, Yeah, i love how future forward these head units are. The reaction i get at car meets are all great and positive. Now, I have been using android headunits for awhile, the last px5 model i had was for about a year and it was solid. I would avoid the px3,rk3188, or any dual core variants. I don't miss the volume knob because i use the steering wheel controls A LOT. I can see if you don't have steering wheel controls it can be a problem. However, my girlfriend doesn't have have steering wheel controls and she had both knob and non-knob versions. She prefer the bigger screen and knobless
They aren't more advanced, I've yet to see a single one of these android "headunits" have any serious audio features. Alpine, Pioneer and the likes are focused on Audio, not android.
@@Dougie085don't you realize that not everyone is primarily focused on the absolute best sound? Some people have stock speakers and want the better overall experience.
@@Jgigs1 That doesn't change how aftermarket car audio works, generally people upgrade their head units for sound quality reasons and that's what the car audio brands focus on. Also you can get android features from ALL the aftermarket car audio brands.
I'm not sure if someone is already said it but what about the way it seems to block your air vents? Does that provide an issue for you? Oops nevermind I just saw your response in the video. LOL
You said “For $100 buck, ppl knows what they’re getting into”, so basically you’re implying that we should expect it not to work? So what’s the point of paying at any amount if it’s not going to work? So say I pay $500 for this head unit (which is approximately what the price is going for on Amazon), should I then expect a better performance and reliability for the exact same head unit?
