To just replace the wick, you don't need to disassemble the gear shaft. I've been using Perfections for about a decade, and along with Aladdin Blue Flames - they're the only ones I use to actually heat my house in New England. That's because they're virtually the only ones that don't care about dye in the kerosene.
Totally agree, My goal was a complete disassembly, This was very easy on this unit as I had just did a fell restore, I also had to replace one of the small gears because the last owner tried to force the stuck wick and stripped the gears.
I have a Perfection 730 that I’ve used several times over the past few years. The exterior is rusty and I want to restore it and give it an attractive paint job. Very happy to find this detailed video. Thanks 👍🏻
Does anyone have a tip for getting new/adjusting the wheels when they are slightly worn down and don't push up the ring-with-wick evenly level?? I would love to hear!
Great video and great heaters!!!! I just started my first perfection renovation and the inside of the font is rusted pretty bad, the base is fine, no leaks, but the layer of metal in the font is rotted all the way around. Will I still be able to use it with no problem? Its currently soaking in vinegar.
vinegar is less desirable than a rust remover or electrolysis... vinegar eats metal and rust its acid. the others type of rust removal focus on rust only.
I have an old Perfection 130 I in very poor condition i am in the process of restoration and I am starting to think it is the only one left in existence..
Really glad I found your channel, I been looking for used Perfection Heaters but not lucky enough to find one I can afford yet. Thanks for great instructional video!
I got a 525m at a thrift store today the main unit was in amazing shape but the font is rusted. I was able to get the grill unscrewed and the ORIGINAL wick out but there was something rolling around in the tank for the kerosene. I found these handle looking things. Kinda looks like striker handles.Do they go in here somewhere, they weren't attached.
