Reviewing Man In Black by Bvlgari. Send me samples to review here: Aaron Terence Hughes LTD 57 Waybridge Industrial Estate Salford M50 1DS www.aaronteren... Instagram - AaronTerenceHughes Music: Sleepdebt - I C U
Its quite difficult as I only know that when I smell the type of musks, fixatives, essential oils and aroma chemicals. The % of perfume to alcohol and most importantly if its bass heavy or top note heavy. There is so many points that go through my head that I am doing my best trying to work that out as I go on. For me its not just reading off marketing and telling you. Im trying to think deeply about quite a complex thing and convey it in an easy to understand way for my viewers. I dare say that in 1 year you will know from the amount of reviews im going to put out there.
@@AaronTerenceHughes Hi Aaron, im wondering what are the reasons why darker skin absorbs fragrances more? I heard that drier skin does, so heavier fragrances are recommended for a drier skin; is there any connection between darkness and dryness of the skin? Or does it have to do anything with how perfume reacts with melanin perhaps?
Aaron I gotta tell you, the way you articulate how a fragrance smells in such a professional way and the passion you can tell you have for this beautiful art form is truly amazing to watch. Your brutal honesty and articulation is what sets you apart. It truly is a treat to have a great perfumer review some of our favorites! Keep it up!
I love the art of perfumery. Its the most wonderful, beautiful thing ever. I am beyond blessed and lucky to work in this industry and try to educate and spread the love.
My take....It's a synthetic Tobacco + Black Pepper scent that has an unexpected 'freshness' on the top. It takes a while for the deeper, woodier aspects to develop. It's a very nice fragrance. I own it and love it in Fall, Winter, early-Spring when there is coolness in the air. It's priced for what it is. It's not niche and smells like a designer doing its best to produce a bang-for-buck cool weather tobacco-based scent. I like this better than, say, Spicebomb (and Spicebomb costs more). The 'fresh' vibe on the top really makes this original and not as jaded and overdone ('boring' as Aaron likes to put it) as other fragrances in the genre (designer tobacco/spicy). For gentleman of a certain age, Bvlgari has provided products for us in a shaving soap, balm and bath products. I often pair this scent with Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Sangre de Drago" to augment this with woods and resins, and when I do this it gets compliments. I think Bvlgari 'could' have had a giant success on its hands had it added some darker wood notes and some natural resins. The synthetic Oud and authentic natural Dragon's Blood resin in Sangre de Drago just takes Bvlgari Man in Black to a better place. I don't normally ever layer fragrances, but this combo is to die for.
I appreciate this video because I believe you share the same problem many black people which is that most of these scents don't really latch on to our skins...You're one of the few reviewers which I can blind buy whatever you LOVE because it will work for me
I have this fragrance and it is a very solid designer option for a slightly sweet slightly boozy fragrance. It doesn't project a lot but the longevity is good and the skin scent it leaves behind is one of my favorites. Great honest review Aaron!!
@@RomanKostan this is similar to my nose as spicebomb the original. the sad thing is that has also been reformulated so you won't get a better performance unless you get a vintage bottle . Spicebomb is still an amazing scent , should give it a go.
Love the dark blue hair looks so good. Do you remember bvlgari black? It looked like a hockey puck. It smelled like a rubber tire and vanilla! I LOVEDDD that one.
I appreciate your professional dissection of this fragrance and feel as if you have given it a high mark of 7 out of 10. I have been considering a bottle for quite some time and trust that something about it has impressed upon you to give it a passing grade. Recently I viewed your video on TF Ombre Leather and was pleasantly surprised because even though I thought it was really good I feared that due to your background and knowledge of perfumery ; something dreadful and unseen could be brought into the light confirming my own novice in general - however that was not the case , you gave that one high remarks as well. Thank You for being here I have enjoyed many of your reviews and one day soon look forward to sampling some of your personal line of fragrances trusting to be further inspired by your many talents.
I really like this guy and very glad I found this guy and subscribed. Great sense of humor and keeps it real while describing things very descriptive. Great too cause I ordered the second bottle of this scent just three days ago.
Just got a bottle and your thoughts match exactly how I feel about this. I was expecting a much darker and spicy fragrance, but ended up with a nice clean, fresh, light and airy frag that in alot of ways reminds me of versace dreamer. This fragrance is the darker side of Dreamer where the floral notes are turned down a bit and a nice sweetness comes through along with some vanilla, leather, tobacco, and booze. My skin is much more pale and I agree that I can pull this off well and wear this all day everyday. Not what I expected, but extremely happy with my purchase.
Great review as always, I absolutely love this one. The Black Orient flanker is my favourite and I think you'd like it more too, it's much darker and richer. It's gorgeous. Thanks for a great video
I thought it was a bit fleeting as well. I have to spray my shirt and skin heavily and you still have to get close to the shirt to smell it after an hour. Too bad it gets eaten up so easily.
I’m surprised about the skin type problem you mentioned. I found this to last pretty well on my well done waffle colored skin. I do overspray most fragrances unless they’re crazy strong to begin with though
Greetings from TX. Finally, ordered four ATH perfumes and waiting to try. Looking forward most to Santal extreme and Patchouli noir. Would love to see a video from you on PN. Stay safe, be healthy and keep fragrancing!
Would love for you to review, Bulgari Black, but I think it may of been discontinued, it is one of my most favorite fragrances, in my top ten, at least. Think it may have the same type of rubber accord you mention in this review. To me, at least, it is not one of the run of the mill fragrance that designer houses put out. I think you would find it very interesting and in turn I would be very interested in your thoughts. Love your channel Arron. I still don't have any of your creations, but, 1 day I will and I can't wait till that day comes. I wish you success. Have a great day.
Hold the pay phone... Skin COLORS have compatible scents? This man continues to blow my mind! Um can we get more explanation on smells and skin color types???
Hi Aaron, just ordered your Tobacco, Oud, and Vanilla 8 ml. I’m really looking forward to it, tobacco is one of my favorite notes for winter. Keep up the great work.
Your also love boss bastard to. People who have bought it totally get the name and think it fits a boss bastard sitting in a leather chair smoking a sweet tobacco cigar. Whilst sticking two fingers up to the world. Thats what I had in my head when I created Boss bastard
Nice. I enjoy this one, I wouldn’t consider this a beast, in fact I find this is balanced quite well and very easy to wear. Ironically, I find it very similar if not compared to two others you have reviewed recently, Spicebomb and PDM Herod.
Aaron Terence Hughes sounds about right... Kind of spicy sandalwood. Also, you mentioned it being kind of “plastic-y” and I can definitely see that. Thanks Aaron, hope you’re doing well, man!
The idea with Skintypes is fantastic as you are. Thank you for being how you are and who you are. So looking forward to my first 2 fragrance from you so happy.
after watching your video I realized that my skin is maybe similar to your skin, I love this fragrance tbh but in my skin it's just kinda dissapear in less than 1 hour. Darker fragrance like amouage memoir sits wonderfully in my skin and it project like a beast, such a shame really because I love the dna so much, I think I'm gonna cry in the corner rn 😭
Hi, Aaron! I choose between Bentley for Men Intense and Bvlgari Men in Black. What fragrance do you think I should get in my collection? ... What is more attractive to you? Which one would you personally choose? ... Thank you in advance! ...)))
Arron.. Loving learning from an expert.. Thanks for content. I'm starting my fragrance journey with the house of Mancera amongst others.. Would love your take on this house. Keep em coming..
I had this, and still love the smell from the bottle. A lot of positive vibes. I couldn't wear this though. My skin seems to amplify and stick to everything that is sweet. So when I wore this I would end up smelling almost like old and more heavy fruit. Lovely fragrance, but not for me.
Hey thats interesting about skin types and the scent. Can you do a video on the best masculine scents for darker skins that radiate and have good longevity like you said? Thanks!
Learning new things. No wonder all these hyped up beast mode fragrances are.so weak on my dark skin. What compounds /notes / fragrances suit darker skin?
I've been isolating quite a lot for the last couple of months, with whats going on. I cook and bake to get out of my deep dark FUNK. This evening I baked a fresh cherry pie from scratch and it made me think of you! I think you'll probably appreciate it. Very ripe Black Cherries, Lemon juice w/zest, purred Ginger, Coconut sugar, salt, a fair amount of Almond and just a bit of Vanilla extract, and just a pinch of Chinese Five Spice (Cinnamon, Star Anise, Fennel, Cloves, White Pepper, and Licorice Root. The crust is of course Flour, Unsalted Butter, Sugar, and a pinch of Cayenne pepper! It is sublime....... I hope you and yours are well. I'll try to start checking your content more, Peace from San Diego, California
I have a terrible sweet tooth. I would smash the whole lot. I have to control sweet things around me. The way to my heart is as followed. Kindness, Being funny. Home cooked Food. Problem with my business taking off like it has and me trying to keep up is that I dont cook any more. I wish to get back to it asap. Sounds amazing.
if you happen to see this comment can you do a video on fragrances which suit different skin types? im also from eastern europe and have a darker skin type and some fragrances which on paper last a very long time have faded within 2-3 hours off my skin while some just last for days.
To me, this smelled like mountain tea ( with the stems, you know, the old school way of making tea ) with some florals and mash them together. That is what I get with this fragrance. I thought nice also, but nothing to go crazy about.
Love your artistic approach and even if our opinions differ I can always tell if i will like a fragrance just based on your description and the way you paint a picture with your words !!! Keep up the amazing work brother
Spot on as always. The black orient version of this is also pretty decent and works slightly better on darker skins than this one. This seems like a woodier more formal take on the original Spicebomb.
@@AaronTerenceHughes I have the original Black and it's one of my favorites of all time especially on men but I occasionally wear it myself. It was reformulated around 2009 and a sandalwood that I find very unpleasant took over and ruined the whole composition IMO.
It has more to do with skin chemistry and the pigments that give color to our skin, diferent pigments (or the absence of them) will give color to your skin, also the ph levels on your skin will always influence how the fragrance smells (skin ph levels are different for each person)
My favorite frag is Bond No. 9 Queens. Tuberose in it but I think it us the only wearable non old lady like smell. If you ever come across it, please try it. Aside that, solid review. Felt pretty much the same about this one.
Aaron Terence Hughes understandable though. I am like that with notes of whiskey/cognac or some form of drinkable alcohol in frags unless they are super mild
"I'm Eastern European" "so my skin goes darker in the summer" "I consider myself a darker skintype" 😂🤣this is unintentionally hilarious. It just reminds me of conversations especially with Russians.
There's something in this one that I just can't stand and I can smell that compound all throughout the life of the fragrance because of how linear it is
Hey! Big fan of yours. I have been interested in fragrances for quite some time now, and I have been starting to pick up some for my collection, and I was really interested in trying out yours. I am a student, so I can't be throwing around money just to try a fragrance. Is there any possibility that you're considering selling like a sample collection for each of your lines? That would be quite helpful to get to try them all and decide. Love your work, cheers.
The problem is with 2ml sizes is that the legal packaging costs £20000 for all of mine. The minimum order is 5-10K. I just dont have the funds for that. I do offer 10ml sizes to trey and help people with smaller budgets.
I love the boozy stuff. Unpopular opinion for me but if I’m looking for something masculine strong I’d go for the boozy stuff leather stuff over the Oud stuff but that’s just me 🤷♂️
Aaron Terence Hughes thanks man! Kinda I’m always open to new stuff though would be silly to overlook something potentially amazing because it’s not my style. Your reviews are amazing such a unique view on things.
I am a newbie in the fragances community and I really want to know what other fragances are alike Bvlgari man in black because I really like those notes that i have no idea what they are 😔🤦🏻♂️
Uhhhhh...can someone explain to me what he means by "darker skin types?" As a black man, hearing a white guy explain that he has a "darker" skin type is a bit perplexing.
Please try to improve your audio. Sometimes is hard to understand what you are saying. English is a international language and people like me that are not native Speaker and love this topic love to learn. But found your low tone to follow you. It is distracting. Regards!
I don't think that's Man in Black, Aaron. It's definitely another Bvlgari, maybe the plain Black? Man in Black is similar to Spicebomb, just so you can get an idea of the scent profile. I'm sure you would absolutely love the real Man in Black.
My father-in-law once told me, after returning home from China, that the Great Wall of China wasn't all that spectacular.... ATH reminds me of my F-I-L ... Lots of input on a topic but rarely impressed by anything
