Reviewing Creed's Virgin Island Water. www.aaronteren... Instagram - AaronTerenceHughes Music: Sleepdebt - I C U #FragranceReview #Creed #VirginIslandWater
Spot on Aaron. I've sampled several Creed scents and they are amazing scents but it is impossible to justify buying a fragrance for that price with that performance. All their scents has such a extremely low performance, which is very unfortunate. For me it's not a price issue, even if it was half the price, I want something I can smell after one hour. Great review as always, thank you! 🙏
So glad I discovered this channel. I like your delivery which manages to be informative and non-shouty without being boring. Absolutely fantastic. I agree with you about Creed VIW, it really doesn't last. The last time I bought a bottle was pre-Covid c. 2018. Now the 50ml is > £200! I can't currently afford a bottle however I spotted it in a fancy department store in town and took the opportunity to spray some on, and, lovely though it was, it didn't last. I might buy a bottle soon anyway just because I like it so much and it makes me feel happy. It reminds me of holidays!
My absolute favorite summer scent. It used to be strong and AMAZING. Now it's like water. I do have some old (discontinued) VIW body lotion, when you combine the two you get much more longevity and projection. Such a shame.
A couple of comments. First, I read on Fragrantica that VIW from 2019 was a good one for performance. Also, VIW performs better in very high heat. I live in the PNW and we don't get much very high heat; we have climate very similar to London but it's hotter here in the summer. Another thing: I sat near someone once who smelled really great and I asked him what he was wearing. He was very surprised that I smelled his fragrance; he said he had sprayed it on 11 hours previously and had worked all day and couldn't smell it on himself. He was wearing Creed Aventus. It seems to me that any fragrances that have real ambergris or musk seem to disappear quickly on me but I suspect other people can smell the fragrances even when I can't. One last thing. I like to wear citruses in the winter to lift my mood. I have Arrakis which is a Tygar knock-off. I was taking a walk several hours after spraying and I didn't smell it any more but I turned my head around during my walk and I smelled it very clearly. So I always try that when I think my fragrance has gone. Good video, by the way.
I love both VIW and your Ozone, but I agree there is little to no similarity, and frankly Ozone blows this one away. So much more complex, and with better performance and uniqueness overall!! I experience the same abysmal performance, and for that price it is completely unacceptable. Thanks for the great review!
Completely agree with everything you say here Aaron, VIW is gorgeous but fleeting in terms of performance....for those who love the scent try Gorse by Laboratory perfumes
The one I just bought a couple days ago stuck to my shirt for 6 - 8 hours, projects nicely for the first hour. I think the current versions of GIT, VIW (& Viking) perform rather reasonably well. Aventus is, however, I agree, is massively reformulated, very diluted.
Same with me, a gorgeous scent for 20 minutes until it fades away. typical fragrance that rips off customers and deserve to be replaced by an affordable clone that smells close enough.
@@stx7389 Nah, it's f'really going in under 30 minutes. Literally had to drench myself with it to get it to last an hour, and I had a 2016 bottle. SMW, MI, and Himalaya are the same way. Just a bunch of sugar-water. Matter of fact, I spilled my mom's hummingbird feeder all over my hand, and IT lasted longer than the four listed.
You should try vintage VIW. I've tried both 120 ml sized bottles and the new ones, and it's not just a matter of performance: the old one is waaay richer, deeper, to the point I'd say is the best Creed has created. It's a shame it's watered down to this degree. Great review Aaron.
(in my most cynical tone) Blackrock’s fiduciary responsibility is to maximize value for share holders by leveraging brand positioning, not to maintain previous levels of product quality.

@@James7995 hahah, fair enough. That much they are doing right, that's for sure.
And how exactly would one "try vintage VIW" ? It's not like you can buy them any more, at some point there won't be a chance to buy the old stuff any more anyways so I think there's no point looking for years old (probably used) bottles for ridiculous prices where nobody knows how they were stored, maybe even diluted with whatever (you can't know for sure can you), and when it runs out you probably won't have the option to buy one again because sooner or later there won't be any of the 'old' Creed batches on the market so.. don't know. Maybe avoid the whole company altogether nowadays?
My last Creed 4oz bottle. Used up Aventus, MI and GIT 4oz bottles. I have a 2014 batch. A62114d01. I won't repurchase any Creed scents. It was fun while it lasted. My empty Aventus bottle still smells strong and masculine. As far as niche goes it was my most complimented scent. For designer it was CH 212
Love this frag for the summer. For the performance I get from VIW, might as well grab the Alexandria dupe. VIW doesn't last an hour and I'm in the Florida heat. Alexandria is wicked close and lasts a bit longer.
This was my first experience with Creed. I'm not a freshie fan, so I'm not a Creed fan, and always thought Aventus smelled like soggy cardboard...but didn't hate it. Just thought it massively over-hyped. For me, VIW was/is very lime-heavy, my only complaint. It'd be the rare freshy-realm-style that I'm ok with, preferring the dry down past the lime. Cheers Aaron!
My fave “beachy” or tropical kind of scent. Wouldn’t buy it for full msrp but at discount prices it’s fantastic. Lasts 4-5 hrs on me with good projection for the first 2 hrs or so.
Spot on Aaron! Amazing fragrance, Insultingly weak performance at almost any price point. I have been dying to try your Ozone, but the shipping situation makes it too expensive in the US. I would be paying more for the shipping than for the fragrance. I do keep looking and perhaps will get lucky and be able to grab a bottle. Keep up the great work! Stay in touch with your higher self! I love your reviews
Aron do what you can to review whatever you can get your hands on Stephen Humbert Lucas (Venom Encarnat, God of Fire, etc). I would love to hear your review about that french house. Thanks in advance. 👍
I forget about it after 10min as well but my wife still smells it when I am back from work in the evening. I quite like the fact that it’s both bold but won’t give me a migraine 😅
I have not loved any other perfume as much as I’ve loved this. I love it just as it is. I don’t need it to “project” or do anything else. I was given a 100ml 6years ago When it finished I missed it… I bought the 500ml… and I happened to have the best year of my life This is a scent that I wear just for me. If I wanted to go out clubbing I’d wear coco noir as it’s never failed but I’m sick of it. But virgin island water.. I just love. I just bought another 500ml now. I have not noticed it being weaker than previous versions. I didn’t buy this because it’s creed. I am not a perfume snob.. I can appreciate old spice, ultraviolet paco rabanne, body shop musk as well as I can see the value in xerjoff, creed, micallef. We all spend our money differently. Some people buy cars, have kids, buy a 3rd PhD, get teeth done, collect air force 1s.. whatever it is. I don’t compare the price I paid to other perfumes because I was never going to buy another perfume. I compare the price to what I spend on other things that I love in my life.
Watched this review…then bought it. Just arrived today, I really like it…but so far, not quite worth the money. Showered it off, applied Dior Cologne (citrus) then layered the VIW and it was an excellent combo.
Aaron, do you plan, by any chance, to do workshops? Like helping people creating their own fragrance? It's my dream to do that, but the workshops here just feel like a soulless way to earn money. I want someone with your passion and knowledge to learn from. Is there a chance you would do that?
Dazzling scent - and too rare as a beachy coconut scent that's not based on the synthetic aquatic notes that make me queasy in high concentration, but yeah even at its vintage best it had subpar performance. I've heard many people say the performance on new bottles is wretched and I have no problem believing they've been working in cheaper replacement components since they were acquired. It reminds me more of an au fraiche that a boutique Caribbean resort would make available to guests and sell for a fortune at the gift shop.
If i may, it is a GORGEOUS scent. However that price is not fair at all to the consumer I believe i wore Tommy Bahama St. KITT for 20 bucks. I oversprayed and it lasted longer than VIW. Alot longer. Great scent, not worth the price though
Lasts a good 4-6 hours on my skin. Though I get wayyyyyy better performance when it is super hot out. My bottle is a little older so that could have something to do with it.
Quite disappointed what they did to the cap, why did they change the blue cap? Had a unique look with the blue. Also wouldn't have expected a plastic cap for that price. Other way cheaper perfumes do metal caps with a more luxury closing/opening system. But otherwise i like it for summer. Paid 150€ for 100ml
I don't want to play Devils advocate but can't it be so that there are not any good quality ingredients "legal" to use left to make a creation as potent as it was? Some ingredients might be hard or impossible to recreate/emulate . Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm here to learn.
I have a bottle that’s around 5 years old (the 120ml one) and it lasts quite a long time with decent-ish projection. I’ve not tried a newer bottle so can’t compare.
Yep...wondrfull opening...but it does not last. A bit on clothes but on the skin it vanishes quickly. I think previous formulation was better on that perspective...
Aaron creed is very expensive for what one gets, I'm VERY surprised that you haven't reviewed FLORIS of London, they are quite affordable and extremely well produced, do it, they aren't meant to give you a nosebleed, they are very classy & beautiful.
@@Smoke_C personally I don't find that, floris products are meant for the gentleman, they aren't supposed to choke everyone out all day, their santal lasts for about 6-7hrs on me personally, then you won't necessarily smell it yourself BUT others do, it's a beautiful creation. Not everyone wants to smell like an Avon bag gone wrong.
This is a good casual fragrance, but never if you want to be taken seriously, it’s a basic fragrance, easy summer grab … but again it’s not sophisticated enough fir my taste.
Basically most creeds last for 20-30mins if you're lucky. I don't understand why people are still talking/reviewing them. They are making fun of everyone with their reformulations and price increases, but somehow they're still in business. In a couple of years they'll be selling Just Water for 1000 quid. It's people's fault all these companies are getting away with reformulating and destroying amazing fragrances.
Aron I got ripped off by creed on my 2nd batch of Aventus... my other creeds were also gone in 15 minutes.... how the hell this house can go on like this is beyond me. I work hours and hours for to afford my treats... why I should be ripped off by none pre informed reformulated products should be criminal. It's my money and creed have lost it !!! The whole range is water... just water !!!
@@AaronTerenceHughes why do you tube reviewers still promote this now faild house yet you Aaron are honest to us to which I thank you in saving me money 💰
I have Aventus Cologne and it has good longevity. Is Creed overpriced? Yes, but so are all the other niche brands. Designers have also good scents, and they are sometimes more appealing and better then niche, so 🤷♂️
I don't like it. It is way tooo much very very cocococococococococococococococococonutty. Got a left over from a 30ml bottle and use that as a toilet refresher nowadays.
"I kind of love it, but.... for ₤185, things need to perform better." This pretty much sums up my feelings on the house of Creed. Great video as always!!! Thanks for sharing with us!
I have an old bottle (around 2010) and a bottle that just came out with the metal cap. Both perform very well on my skin. Sprayed the new bottle on about 3 hours ago (1 spray) and it still pushing off my skin
100% on your evaluation. It's the same with nearly all of their fragrances and especially since they were acquired. VIW was an all day fragrance. Actually incredible for a freshie. Now, my dollars will support brands like yours instead. Honest and passionate creativity.
Bought this for my wife 2-3 years ago. Love at first sniff for both of us. I’ll have to disagree on the performance part. 3-4 sprays in the morning lasts all day on my (light Scandinavian) skin. Top 5 in my fragrance collection for sure!
You're very lucky and in the minority sadly :( I've noticed everyone has 1-2 Creeds that perform fantastic on their skin and the rest are decent to crappy in performance. For me, Royal Oud and Viking are monsters off my skin. VIW and MI will only last for 45-60 minutes max before becoming a skin scent. It sucks so bad because VIW is one of the best-smelling summer fragrances imo.
@@wakeupchurch neither one will disappoint. I prefer intense though. I would suggest getting the 7 scent sampler and throwing both in there yo see which works best with your chemistry. Im on my 5th sampler lol
Erolfa is the same. Beautiful, unforgettable and then, gone like a ghost. To me it's not even worth 20 dollars, 5 dollars worth of Original Jovan musk is better, at least it lasts longer. DON C.
Creed is dying a terrible death. Continuously going down in quality while going up in price and desperately clinging to their namesake. I'm glad I've never bought more than a sample pack from them. Aside from my dislike of their business practice, it is sad to see a legendary house and monumental cornerstone of the fragrance industry going down like this. Quite the spectacle.
His voice is so intimidating. I am afraid to keep listening... Psyche! He just has this "I-will-kick-your-fucking-ass" vibe, like someone that does weights and is short-tempered. I hope to be wrong. Cheers.
Try "Malibù - Party In The Bay" by Simone Andreoli as an alternative to Creed's Virgin Island Water, it's very very similar but with better performance and costs less as well.
