Ok, I need to do a THIRD disclaimer lol. It's in the description, it's in the video, I'll say it again here. I am not in any way condoning people wear fragrance to a sensitive environment; if that's your workplace policy, people may choose to follow or not to follow it. I know that even where policies are in place, people do still wear fragrance and this is simply my opinion on what are some of the "safer" fragrances. This is for entertainment only. We ALWAYS need to take into account those around us - whether it's a healthcare environment, at a school, in an office, on a train, at your grandmother's brunch - whatever. Common sense :).

Exactly. It’s about gauging for ourselves and making choices based on that. I worked with people who adamantly protested and had banned all perfumes from the workplace, later to smell heavy perfumes on them on a daily basis 😂🙄. They just didn’t want to smell perfumes they didn’t approve of.
@MilwaukeeWoman
@MilwaukeeWoman 2 года назад
@@mamoni7703 And I've worked places where the ban was real. Customers/clients are more important than our perfumes. But mine was in my car and the second I was off the clock and in my personal vehicle I sprayed myself as much as I wanted. I don't wear fragrance when I'm the client at a doctor or dentist because I think of the person who might not be able to complain if I'm giving them a migraine or an asthma attack.

@@MilwaukeeWoman I highly doubt anyone who walks among others on a daily basis is catching migraines or asthma attacks just from someone else’s barely there fragrance , granted they don’t live under a rock . As healthcare workers we do have to take into account the medical setting we work in, and what may or may not be acceptable for the patient demographic we provide care to. Heavy scents are not Recommended, but granted you work more than you’re at home, people will always take some liberty over their own bodies in my opinion. Once you’re not wearing something strong enough to Interfere with care, I don’t see the problem. Granted we’re all watching this video, I think we all are looking for that medium between agency of your own body/personal hygiene routine and giving good care :)

Fellow night shift nurse here! Some of my favorite work scents are Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Maison Margiela Whispers in the Library, Banana Republic Rosewood, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, The Body Shop White Musk, and good old reliable Jovan Musk oil. I’ve worn REM and Coffee Break to work and have gotten compliments from patients before. Lavender based scents are a good option for night shifters if it helps relax or comfort the folks we’re caring for, I think. 😊

I hope you can live without perfume for a work shift. People with asthma or worse, like fungal lung infections like someone in my family would have to demand a different nurse and I would have written every supervisor above you all the way to the head of the hospital. Keep it in your car and spray yourself after your shift.

I'm surprised nurses wear perfume at all, I really think you should be as fragrance free as possible. It is the nature of fragrance to spread into the environment and some people are very sensitive. I am healthy but sensitive to fragrance, if I'm in the same room as scented candle even if I cannot smell it my nose will burn. Some people get migraines ect.

Good morning, Ilythia! Thank you so much for making these videos. I absolutely love each and every one you have made. I used to be a nursing supervisor at our local hospital, and sometimes would have to ask some of my nurses to tone their fragrance down, so this is a very important topic, especially in healthcare. The wrong fragrance could literally sicken a patient. On the other hand, a nice, clean and fresh fragrance portrays an image of cleanliness and peace which could make a patient, as well as fellow co-workers, feel at ease. Love you, and your channel, honey. A happy new subscriber -Courtney

Healthcare workers like nurses are taught to not wear fragrances. At all. I’m disappointed at the healthcare workers who think their “light “ fragrances are ok. I’m also a healthcare worker who now has a few coworkers who wear perfumes . It gives me an instant migraine. Makes my eyes irritated and I have asthma attacks. It’s awful and I don’t know what I’m gonna do for work because of this.22 years of working as a surgical tech now mean absolutely nothing because people want to wear perfume. It makes our patients nauseous as well. I’ve seen patients sneezing around a certain nurse that wears it. We even have a policy against it but they don’t care. There’s things you’re taught as a healthcare worker not to do for the sake of your patients. One is to not wear fragrance. I’m sorry your nurse was so unprofessional and inconsiderate of you as a patient. You didn’t need that added on to what you were going through. You matter. Your well being matters as a patient in our care.

So true. All added fragrance in the atmosphere of a hospital is intensely challenging and upsetting, never welcome. People who have never been sick in that environment, staying overnight or longer on a ward, just cannot conceive of just how differently a fragrance can smell or be received by the senses when a person is really unwell in hospital. By the way, I'm so happy to think that you pulled through and are no longer gravely ill. Hope you have a terrific weekend Julie. :)

Fellow night shift nurse here. For months i have been interchanging Mon Guerlain and Dior’s Jasmine des Anges and every patient I have taken care of has told me “You smell good” One patient even asked her husband to get her Jasmine des anges for her for their upcoming anniversary. I wore mom guerlain to work last night n my patient insisted on me spelling out the name of the perfume I was wearing and the next time I went in the room, she had ordered it. If you can't get through a shift workout risking your patients' well-being so your spirit can be uplifted,, get a different job. Kim Lee, Juiliette Has a Gun is a chemical fragrance, as are many- but it is made up of a Single chemical, thusly unless responding to that single ingredient-which would be unlikely this is the safest choice! Lots of whiners around but I have COPD and wear it. I said once that these are not allergic reactions which would respond to antihistamines, but rather reactions to chemicals-very few actual plant ingredients are used. Thanks for your health caring!! I don't think that people get how sensitive some people are to perfume and smells. I used to love perfume but became ill, turns out we had mold in the house, and I could smell perfume outside from 5 meters away. It has nothing to do with good or bad smells, every ''strong'' smell feels like being gassed. My parents brewing coffe in the morning made me nauseous sitting in a different room. But perfume and flowers are the worst. It feels like small molecules enter the nose and assult both your brain and lungs, giving you a crippling headache so you can't think. And somehow take over your respitory system, shutting down your breathing like a reflex you can't control. You can just imagine the panic. It is so hard to to tell people because you are afraid of being perceived as wet blanket trying to tell others what to do. So please be careful and leave the perfume for your time off.

Yes! I can just about tolerate 'smokers hands' on a hairdresser or someone on a make up counter (out of politeness and also knowing I can't just stand up and run away, nor say something that may embarrass someone who's otherwise kind, friendly and helpful). But when I was last in hospital I would have vomited if a patient had a guest visiting them who was all dolled up and reeking of fragrance. In that context all sick people smell is 'chemicals'. Never mind how beautiful a fragrance is, sick people just register it as overpowering, synthetic chemicals trying to trick us into liking them. Any kind of added fragrance on a person is incredibly upsetting in the hospital setting. I'm only too thankful that no patient had any idiots for family members and all of their visitors came in just smelling of having had a shower, that's the most my sense of olfaction could detect as a change in the atmosphere. I'm with you on this one 100% Alene :).

So good to know commodity is still making fragrances! I purchased gold a few years ago on clearance when Sephora still stocked it and just recently fell in love all over again.

Zara’s Vetiver Pamplemousse is very light, close to skin scent. It’s not long lasting, but 1 spray on the inside of your shirt will last you about 6 hrs.

Definitely some good picks I see. I personally won't wear any perfume as a health care worker, I go for a light fresh body mist, as they're typically not strong and they fade considerably throughout the day.

I LOVE Si fiori but I probably wouldn’t pick it for work (as a nurse). I think all of these are gorgeous though. I only ever wore clean “skin” to work but I also did work night shift so if I’d worn perfume during the day it could’ve still been lingering. I’m now a SAHM but worked in L&D for years. I would be VERY close often holding or hugging patients for long periods of time, (for epidurals or delivery) so I did have to be super conscious, more so then say a ER or MedSurg nurse.

I want to tell you my story of perfume sensitivity so that it might help nurses to understand patients that might be affected by their perfume. It’s very different than just someone not enjoying a strong or particular type of scent. I’ll start at the beginning. Several years ago I got a cat, upon which I had a severe allergic response. Instead of giving up my cat in the beginning, I took multiple medicines daily to try to at least manage symptoms. I still wasn’t great, but we got by, at least until I got covid. After having covid, my allergies became unmanageable. After half a year of sore throats, trying different medications that weren’t working, I had to make the hard decision to re-home my cat who had then been with me for 8 1/2 years. This is where the perfume part comes. Months after the cat being out of the home, home cleaned well, furnace filter replaced, I still was having sinus, throat, and eye problems. I had the ENT order a CT scan, but they said if they do a surgery to clear the inflammation the CT scan found, it would come back as long as I was still exposed to the allergens affecting me. I couldn’t figure out what allergens I was still exposed to. So as a test, I stopped wearing fragrance, put my candles in a cabinet. My sinuses finally started to give me some relief. I tested this out by spaying a bit of perfume or taking out my candles. Yep, it’s fragrance. I started collecting fragrance sometime after having my cat, so I had no idea how it was affecting me. It’s not a particular scent or note or ingredient. It’s the fumes. I experimented spraying under clothes away from my nose, and the best I could do was my back underneath my close. I can’t really smell the perfume, and I do have a reaction when I spray still. But even today when I sprayed Petit Matin, and I can’t smell it at all, for some reason my sinuses are remaining inflamed. I wanted to tell this story because even if you spray lightly, and even if you smell clean and lovely, it could still cause some of the most sensitive patients to have a reaction. But this would be the same with any scent, like strong fabric softener on your clothes. I even have a reaction to an almond scented lip balm.

Absolutely, as with any office or other environment, we have to take into account those around us and like I said I’m not encouraging anyone to go against their workplace policies. This is simply a question I am asked all the time from viewers. Thanks for sharing 😊

Is the cat back home with you now that you know it was the perfume causing you all these issues?
@marcilk7534
@marcilk7534 2 года назад
@@JaneEnajable No, the cat was the one causing the allergy. I knew I was allergic to him from the moment he came home with me as a kitten. My eyes turned red and swelled up. I couldn’t breathe. By the time I got to the allergist, he said it was the worst allergic reaction he’d ever seen. He confirmed cat allergies with a prick test. I was highly allergic to cats. This was even one of those hyper allergenic cats. The perfume was just a “ok, what is still bothering me issue” and it’s a chemical sensitivity rather than an allergy.

Great suggestions for office appropriate scents. I work in healthcare as well and we have very strict no perfume policies. A couple affordable alternative to Chanel Chance Eau Tendre are Lanvin Eclat de Fleurs and Vince Camuto Fiori;. I think that Lanvin Eclat d’Arpege would be another work safe perfume because it’s a beautiful light skin scent. BTW I love your acrylic organizer.

Ok, I’m confused, if you have a no scent/perfume policy at your workplace why are you wearing any type of fragrance. As a patient I would never wear any perfume, body creams etc if I was told not to wear anything. I thought this was a policy so people with allergies or are sensitive to scents could be in a scent free environment while sick. As a healthcare worker I am appalled that you would go against the rules and potentially causing harm to a sick patient. You are not qualified to determine what scent is safe for anyone. Shocking!

Philosphy's perfumes are my go to's for work as a CNA in a hospital. Fresh Cream, Amazing Grace, Pure Grace & Falling in Love are the ones I wear & think are perfect for highly sensitive jobs to scent. I'm a Nursing Assistant, so have to be careful what I put on. When I worked in the ICU though, they didn't even want us wearing scented body wash or shampoo, otherwise a light, clean fresh scent is fine. .

Some perfume lovers claim they don't care about the weather or time of the year or place and they prefer to wear their heavy and bold scents all year round, since they're not interested in basic safe scents. I see these people as inconsiderate and selfish people who forget about others who can be affected by their scents. Heavy perfumes in hot weather gives other people headaches specially those with migraines and in workplace there are people who are allergic or easily get headaches by strong scents. One of my coworkers can't tolerate the scent of perfumes at all unless it's very very mild, other one is allergic in this time of the year and I had to leave my workplace just two days ago as a perfume bottle of a heavy suffocating perfume of some coworker was broken and I still have my cough after recovering from illness and still very sensitive to intriguing scents so it was hard to stay there anymore.
@just.jaimie.
@just.jaimie. 2 года назад
Maybe you should try a different type of content if you think people who wear perfume and dare to wear something they enjoy are simply selfish because they didn’t ask you before selecting their perfume. I don’t understand the point of going to a perfume review channel to say people who wear perfume are selfish but perhaps there’s a channel for something that doesn’t offend or upset you, something that makes you happy and not irritated. At the same time the people who come for the perfume content could not be called names because you are in the wrong place.
