the vaporizer lock is actually an interlock that keeps other vaporizers (up to 3) locked out while on an anesthesia machine. this is an important safety feature so u cannot turn on multiple vaporizers simultaneously. Turning the iso knob will lockout sevo and des and so on. obviously the bypass machine only mounts a single isoflurane vaporizer so interlock is unnecessary.
The perfusionist showed me the first vape in an OR room then I went to install a vape mount in the perfusion classroom and I noticed it too had a defective lock. 2 birds, 1 stone video that I was not planning to make until it happened. I hope this saves someone because I witnessed a crew panicking as a patient was crashing from low O2 because of this lock issue.
