Too bad Nature didn't create the mountaintop as an even plateau for the Greeks to later have erected an enthroned colossus of Zeus seated in the altar precinct. THAT would have been MUCH MORE MAGNIficent than the one at Olympia, which was only seated in a temple. And it would have made VIVID the verse of the "Apocalypse of John" 2:13: "I know where you live, where SATAN (Zeus SOTER/"SAVIOR"!!) has his THRONE."
Correct. Satan in the Greek language simply means adversary. The word could refer the person of Satan or simply those who oppose Christ. Pergamum was the center of Emperor worship in the East while Rome was the center for the West. The reference of Satan’s throne could possibly be referring to the Pergamum Alter. Look it up, it actually does look like a throne when looking at it as a whole. This would have been situated in view of all the ships coming to port.

But, immediately I found a reference to Wikipedia's article of "Satan" which says that it is the HEBREW word for "adversary" or "accuser" and it is derived from the verb for "to obstruct" or "to oppose".
