heyy i'm in jersey and same zone. i got blasted with blue berry maggots this year. at least thats what i think they were. very easy to tell which berries were infected. small little hole on them. luckily i found Spinosad and started using that and so far i'm starting to get small hand fulls of non compromised berries. apparently i should have been spraying earlier so its good to know about! spinosad and bt really effective when you spray them earlier enough my kale was toast by this time last year. since the blue berry maggot comes from the soil i think i was wondering if the nets still help in that case. since spinosad worked and is so cheap i wont be bothering with nets yet but i also had damage from carpenter bees which results in a lot of tiny berries that werent fully pollinated. that the nets def would help with i guess. also since you always talk about utilizing space so much it would be cool to see you do a video on the bushel and berry varieties of berries. all are bred to do best in small planters or hanging pots. i've had success with them in this climate this is their secodn year in my possion and they have good fruit set. my space is extremely limited but i can hang these plants all over the place and above where the deer can reach and as close to the side of the house . worth exploring in the least!

So are the 'flowers' you recently incorporated considered 'Ground Cover'? Also, how do you get cabbage (and everything else for that matter!) to grow so LARGE when the bed is that densely planted? Additionally, I see that you do give your potatoes their own beds.

I have been following James for many years. I have watched move from level to level as he continue to grow he himself continues to grow. I started watching him because first and foremost, the wood chips after watching Paul G. Back to Eden documentary. By no means a new way of gardening that Paul himself invented, instead a method that he was enlighted on that bought on revelation and shared his personal experience. Needless to say, Paul and James has so inspired me to grow, along with another RU-vidr, Larry Hall (now has passed on) Rain Gutter Grow System, all three of these guys he lit a fire and desire to never give up and grow your own. Every time I watch James, it's like, his garden his so bodacious, vivacious, and on green steroids, so strong and healthy. DO YALL SEE THE LEAVES ON THOSE CABBAGES? Trips me out everytime😆, furthermore good for compost and feeding those chickens. When he pulled back the leaves on the Purple Dragon Cabbage, kid you not, he and I both said at the same time "Beautiful". The color of his garden is like painting a picture. I have watched him build his beds and start to refine and define his space. I MUST ADMIT when I first started watching Food Forest, I thought this was a mess, how does he know where everything is at, walking all over stuff, stuff just everywhere😂and his dog walking on and licking all over the food, thats just me being a nut. But it's suppose to be a food forest and a forest does not have have everything in symmetrical order, OCD order, it's growing in its own harmony. I stuck with James, and watched him build his raised beds, and trellises and his love and excitement to grow food. The other day I did order his JP fertilizer waiting on my shipment in a few days, I considered it sowing a seed into his wealth of knowledge that he passes on. Thank you James for all you do, so grateful, 👍🏽👍🏽and hats off to you. Fellow New Jersian, Somerdale.

James, I think you might just live forever with this lifestyle. Haha! Have you heard of blue zones? There are a few places in the world where people tend to have above average health and live a long time. In a lot of those areas, you might see the 98 year old grandma in the garden with a garden hoe, getting to work. The consistent sunshine, movement and fresh produce are incredibly valuable. You also add in the social aspect if you are sharing produce, and visiting with friends and neighbors. As an addictions counselor, I give this addiction a 20/10. Would recommend.
