Permanent welding fix for steering alignment issues on the front tires of riding mowers to correct toe out problem. This weld repair reinforces the spindle so it never bends again! One small piece of angle is all it needs.
This is great, unfortunately I am not a welder. I will do your bend repair and you have gained a subscriber. I have a very uneven yard and my orig toe in is basically gone. You could do a side hustle with your idea, get new spindles, reinforce them and resell them. I for one would be interested.
This would be a good beginner project to learn how to weld. It's not very hard, you could be welding in a half an hour. You can buy a small new welder for not very much.
Mines going in circles is this what I need to do or something else like wheel alignment? Mines turning to left by itself and I have to fight it with wheel in order to go straight
Came here from your previous video on how to straighten these spindles. I wasn't planning on grinding and welding today but this is the only fix I've seen for these lawn tractors that makes sense. Just finished and this tractor has never steered so well. Thank you! This also works on an Ariens 936 series lawn tractor which is what I have.
I was thinking about doing this but I think I would rather have the spindle arm bend a little then maybe take out the steering gears if I hit anything.
Great video man! Another subscriber added. Straightforward, practical, and not a bunch of "fluff" in your presentation... sheer "git-r dun". There is a ol' school NASCAR joke in here somewhere... but I am having a senior moment. "Not bad for flux core" had me cracking up... I just had to fix the mount on my vintage craftsman mower deck and said the EXACT same thing after I finished. Looks even better with the black paint... Well done DMG, well done
Haha! Everytime I use that Harbor Frieght welder I say that. The super cheap one isn't that good but the green titanium style one has been a really good purchase.
Interested as well.....or send pair of spindles to you and pay you for labor and return shipping?....just an option. I think this fix is beautiful for us diyers......but not a welder. Thanks for the vid.
In the next month or so I think I'm going to order a few sets and reinforce them then I'll link them in the video and see if anyone is interested in purchasing
Thanks for coming up with a *real* fix. For those of you who don't weld straighten your spindles like in the previous video and take them off and to a welder. They're just going to bend again if you don't do this fix. Cut the grass today after doing the fix and my tractor corners like a Porsche now. The feel is completely different, I can tell it's really fixed. Thanks again.
I just had mine apart yesterday to install wheel bearings to replace the old stock bushings and I noticed the design of those spindles. I kinda wondered how to strengthen them. Mine are still in good shape and my wheels are still in perfect alignment, but I want it to stay that way, now I see how! Thanks!
Brilliant. I'm tired of having to replace the spindles with each season. Got new spindles and will fabricate those. Thank you! Curious what tools were used to build the notch from a V cut
That's not a solution to the problem, this is what thousands of people have. We can't just run out and buy a new mower. And who says it doesn't have problems also. You sound like people who were buying imports back in the 1980's , like a Honda or a Toyota was invincible.
