Three consecutive victories in the Champion Hurdle, the first of them in 1968, were the high points of a career peppered with hardship but nobody can deny that Persian War is a legend of National Hunt Racing. Here he is winning the 1969 Champion Hurdle with jockey Jimmy Uttley. Persian War was trained by Colin Davies and owned by Henry Alper.

his owner henry alpher should have been banned from owning that horse, he ruined him. He never gave him a chance to have a break. He put him over fences but PW didn't take to it after that his career went down hill.

LOOK AT THE GOING. HE WAS A FANTASTIC HORSE AND THOSE TWO OWNERS SHOULD BE SHOUT AND I AM GLAD THEY ARE BOTH DEAD FOR WHAT THEY DID TO THAT HORSE.

@@MsVanorak Henry Alper was an arrogant idiot who thought he knew how the horse should be trained and which races it should go for, he knew absolutely nothing about horses. The horse would have had an even more sucessful career if he'd let the trainer make the plans, instead the horse had 6 different trainers during it's career because Alper kept moving it when the trainers disagreed with his idiotic ideas. He ran it in unsuitable races,at the wrong times on unsuitable ground.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Barbara. Henry Alper the owner of Persian War was a horrible man. Any decent owner wouldn't have treated that great hurdler the way he did. Alper shouldn't have been allowed to keep a spider in a matchbox much less a horse as brilliant as Persian War.
