My favourite Persona entry. Had it back on the Vita and I really loved what Atlus had done with the JRPG genre. It actually got me back into JRPGs after getting a bit bored of what Square were doing. Glad it’s finally on Switch.

Square went downhill after the merger with Enix. Back when they were still just Squaresoft they make really great games. Nowadays it's 50/50.

Same! P4 Golden reignited my love of JRPGs and quickly became THE game all others were judged by. Although I liked P5, there’s a simple magic to P4 others have not tapped into. I’m so stoked it’s *finally* being ported so I can play it again.

Ah my favourite game of all time will be available for everyone to play: to anyone playing a Persona game for the first time Enjoy it, it is an experience unlike any other you will play, With highs, lows, emotional moment and many memories forged, the characters will feel like true friends and so real when it is all said and done and you'll really miss them when the game ends, i envy you and i'm jealous, i wish i could experience this masterpiece for the first time again

The overworld and murder mystery aspect of this really appeals to me, not sure if I wouldn't get bored of the combat tho. Thanks for the great review as always guys

I wouldn’t say getting bored of the combat would be a big problem. You don’t spend too much time overall in the dungeons, and even that’s bolstered by the story, the dopamine hit of getting new bonus cards which give you more money etc each time, monster hunting and fushon. Plus if it’s that bad you can turn down the difficulty to very easy . It’s a really fun character driven game and would highly recommend

P5R was my first persona and i fell in love with it. There are so many that say P4G is the best one, which just makes me so excited to play it since i just can't imagine how it can get better than P5R. Thanks for the review guys, glad the game runs without issues. Edit: Thank you all for your comments, this thread just made me more excited to get into the game. The fact that when fans of this series bring up why X persona is their favorite while still recognizing the value in the rest of the persona series, just highlight the quality of the franchise overall and that each game is worthy of being play. I can't wait to experience them all!

P4G was my first one (and actually my first JRPG in literal decades) and it eventually hooked me hard. I even downloaded & started playing P5R within hours of finishing 4--that's how hooked I was. I'm about 60 hours into 5 now and while there are definitely a lot of things better about it, I'm not sure it's ever going to quite match the story & character connections in 4

I hate JRPG games, and yet I absolutely loved this on the Vita and racked up well over 100 hours on it. I'd like to think that's an indication of the quality of it (if that's not too arrogant a statement about my own judgement).

It’s the story that makes P4 the best Persona game. It easily has the best story and cast. I’d say P5 does have much better gameplay (especially the dungeons) and a better setting, but despite that P4 is the better game overall.

Thanks for making this review as you did! I'm one of those who only play games on Nintendo consoles, so I've never played the Persona games before. So a review that doesn't expect previous knowledge is fantastic! By the way, would you advise to play Persona 4 before or after Persona 5? Not in terms of story, I know the Persona games are pretty much independent, but in terms of mechanics. For someone who has never played a Persona or a Shin Megami Tensei game, which of the two provides the smoothest learning curve?

When this release not that long ago on PC it was the first time I heard people talking about this series and since then it was on my radar. After finishing P5R I'm definitely looking forward to this one but unless someone gifts me the game I'll be waiting for a while longer 😅. I'm yet to my first game purchase in 2023. I'm both proud and sad because of it 😂

I'm really excited to pick this one up! My first persona game was 5 and feel like I have missed out on quite the series which is a problem that must be rectified! I do wish this was a hd remake, but beggars can't be choosers, I'm still picking up what sounds like a fantastic game.

I just beat p5 Royal a few weeks ago and I kinda been itching for more even though that game took over my life for months. Lol. But when I saw this game on sale for $10 and heard some people put it on the same level as Royal, I had to check it out. I’m liking it so far.

Hell yeah! I finished 3 on psp, 5 on ps4 then royal on switch. I failed to finish 4 cause may ps2 bit the dust. To play the definitive version finally is such a great opening for this year. Everything's great at your Junes!

@@Anni_ka It’s very special. It reminds me of my childhood playing Chrono Trigger and FFVI. I feel unoriginal, but Elden Ring was outstanding and my number 1 last year. I have never played anything like it, and it was the best game I’ve played since Breath of the Wild. If we are talking only Switch games of 2022, then Chained Echoes would be my #1 followed by Xenoblade 3 :)

I've been tempted to give it a try as well, because the feeling it gives people seems to be similar to BOTW (which I played last year, and I've been looking for a game with a similar vibe), but I don't feel 'ready' yet, so I've decided to just watch my brother play it for now 😂

This looks so good and I wish I had the time to get into it, but I can't deal with cutscene heavy visual novel games at the moment. To anyone who's played this one, how cutscene heavy is it percentage wise? I love xeno 3 for example, but it drives me nuts where it's cutscene, walk 30 meters, cutscene, walk 50 meters, another big cutscene and there's literally nothing to do but walk between the check points.

Once you're past the opening hours, I'd say cutscenes are on the shorter side but there's plenty of them, with social links being a fairly central part of the game

My first Persona game, managed to get an used PS Vita for only 40 bucks with an original memory card, 20 dollars and a couple of hours learning how to release the true power of this portable and I was downloading games like crazy, this one still remains as one of those that I have played the most on the Vita, eventually I’ll purchase this one as well 😊

Played this for the first time on my psvita. It's been years since ive played but I remember having fun with it up to a point where the gameplay kinda burnt me out since it was just doing the strongest AoE skill everytime. Story is great, gameplay is great up to a point. 9/10

My only complaint is lack of physical release of bundle pack with P3P and P4G, instead LRG runs for each game. It hurts less now with Persona 3 Reload on other platforms, but still that was a good opporunity.

Late on this, but I have to wait on these Personas until I play the most recent I purchased, Persona 5 Royal 😊. I don’t mind in-depth storytelling though as long as it is intriguing! *Edit: after watching both reviews (for 3 & 4 on Switch) I think I might enjoy 4 more, I really like the social aspect and how the dungeons are designed! I wanna grab this and P3P for switch but I'm really hoping for a physical release down the road. I loved those games on my Vita so switch will make them just feel like home again. EDIT: I was one of the ones "begging" Atlus to release this on Switch so I'm gonna have to buy the digital copy to put my money where my mouth was and then buy a physical version if one ever appears...

You should, for me P5R was the most accesible story and gameplay wise, P4G feels a litte dated and has too many bear puns, P3 it feels too old can't get myself around the first boss

I would say 3,4 and then 5 so that way you can experience and enjoy the qol improvements the series had. If you go backwards while it's not a big deal I would say it might be a little jarring

The slow burn in the beginning before you get to any battle(except tutorial) is actually enjoyable in subsequent playthrough cuz it means re-meeting the main characters and you get to notice some stuffs not apparent in NG. But seriously though why do all reviewers have issue with little battle in jrpgs, it's not a dungeon crawler, the focus of an jrpg are characters, story and then the battle system in that order.

I know right?! I been playing so many switch games right now and the charm of playing more “basic” looking games that are just plain fun. I don’t care at all about the graphics. Older less detailed graphics give me major nostalgia.

I've managed to hold off picking any of the persona games up so far, not because I don't think I'd like them but more that I'd lose far too many hours in them! Maybe when I've retired!! 😆
