Not sure but this might be considered the good ending but it's not a good ending at all Persona 5 Playlist: • Persona 5 - Merciless ... Twitter: / willjv2
All the people who keep saying "ya know, the deal wasn't so bad" even though it was at the cost of free will shows how they completely missed the point of the game
pinglefingle I actually think they are alive just corrupted and seeking fame (like they originally did) I mean I don't think Joker can solo a palace(multiple actually since the whole police force had a change of heart)
You see Atlas understood what they were doing perfectly. All of the people who accepted this ending as okay and fine judged it in a selfish way Ofcourse they know what happened to their friends, so do selfish criminals and people who after harming their friends to achieve their own personal goals(they might regret harming them after, but not during gaming them.) Atlas knew this way of thinking and perceiving and applied it amazingly in Persona 5 and I loved it a lot. Now just because you think the bad or alternate ending is OK I'm not trying to target you. I think that ending is messed up and if you want to talk about it with me. ----> @
The point of the game really is kinda not well thought out anyway. The point that changes of hearts are at best morally ambigous and at worst morally inacceptible isn't covered enough in the game at all. The phantom thieves are still considered heroes for completely changing persons without any repercussions because it's "for the better". It's one thing I hate about the story of this game.
A great bad ending. Akira betrays everyone and sacrifices them all for a chance to go on living his own life, warped by the God of Control. Even Lavenza had no idea Akira would actually agree. You even outsmarted Igor Alll of his friends are dead and nobody even knows who they were. That evil smirk at the end was fantastic too
I feel like there was some untapped potential for angst and sadness for picking this ending. Maybe you could've seen all the Phantom theives and other friends be the only ones to realize Akira's/Ren's corruption and despise him or maybe see how the world isn't real and Akira/Ren is just trapped inside a palace. Would've been cool as fuck
The way I see it, the other Phantom Thieves are alive, but have become the worst case scenario: Despots who change the hearts of not just criminals, but ANYONE who dares to oppose them or stand out of line. Just like Yaldaboth himself.
@@benjaminpeterson455 they are not. The others never existed in the cognition of general public, thus they aren't alive. The onlyone who knows they existed at all is Ren. Simple logic
i think it said in game that persona users can't have a palace, buuuut.. i'd happily ignore that because that WOULD'VE been cool af and i rly wish they'd gone that route with this ending now that i read this comment D: D:
Honestly, in my interpretation of this ending, Joker is just getting revenge back at society for ruining his life. I highly doubt you can get a job anywhere if you've been on probation once.
@@snowykitten6860 I have, but that's not my point. My point is that him being on probation will show up on his record no matter where he goes which can highly damage his chances of making a career/getting a job
It would have been awesome for the phantom thieves have to fight joker and you still be controlling joker so if you win the ending is carried through and if you lose you die and the phantom thieves have to kill Igor
Keep in mind that at this point the Phantom Thieves had given up hope. You find them imprisoned and they're not upset about it. They're in their casual attire, implying they had lost their rebellious spirit. Joker's deal is the very last hope.

What I like the most about this ending is that it is broad enough to be open to interpretation. Yes, I know the popular opinion is that Joker becomes "the very thing he sought to destroy" by "trading the free will of humanity for fame". However, that is not the only way to interpret the deal if you think about it. Imagine that Joker believes that he really screwed up by entering an unwinnable fight, one that has claimed the lives of his teammates and damned humanity to the point of being nothing more than mindless drones in a world fused with the metaverse. He would do anything for a chance to undo his decision to "reform society", a goal that he no longer feels he can possibly accomplish given the scope of the problem. This deal essentially undoes all of the damage he feels his actions have caused, and while it condemns the public to be prisoners of their subconscious desires, it is not any different than the fate they would have been subject to anyway. I could see Joker accept this deal simply as an admission of defeat, acknowledging that this is the only way he feels that he can save humanity after throwing the world into chaos. Having the Phantom Thieves clear their names would just be seen as an added bonus.
Your nickname is Griffith isn't it? Edit: Btw the only good thing about this ending is honoring the name 'Joker' in all manners and seeing society, riding with full speed to hell.
that's possible another is that he simply, give up his justice, the world didn't want it to the point where his life became a hell, dus he sees he can't progress with such a childish mindset as doing good because it will help someone a little, because it may just cost him everything for to take such an action
I think you can also consider how Joker was forced into the role of trickster, as he begins the as functional rejected by society. Even if he does choose to fight against the God of Control he still has to turn himself in to implement change. Considering how defeating the God of Control only allows the possibility of reform can Joker be blamed for not wanting to spend Christmas incarcerated?
This ending is just like Corpse Party, only Joker survived and his friends were being abandon left to die in Velvet Room. And I bet Sojiro will say who is Futaba? She doesn't exist at all. The same goes for those who were related to from Ryuji to Haru, as if they wasn't exist to begin with. In the end Joker has become corrupted person with that damned evil smile, showing that he is a completely a changed evil man. Welp I can't say I am correct lol.
phones961O2 Akechi did everything by himself as well and Joker is just as strong if not stronger by the end of the game. Plus, he has Yaldaboath on his side.
It’s because assuming akira would choose that, he would be selfish enough to not care for the state of all the people now knowing this greater evil exists, and instead only care about the fame of the phantom thieves.
Sojiro: Don't go getting dragged into trouble. Joker: You clearly don’t know who you’re talking to so let me clue you in. I am not in trouble, Sojiro. I am the trouble.
Don't feel bad. I told Sae what my friends names were. But I try to counter that argument by saying it's an alternate game over screen since if you fail to steal the treasure in time you get Akechi killing you anyway.
@@coffekat1519 I just went back on my save file and tried again. Also, It was my first persona game and I don't like watching persona gameplay because I just find watching other people play persona boring.
@@khankorpofficial And then they woke up and realized "maybe we _don't_ want this after all", which would've been what happened had Yaldabaoth not rigged the game. And yeah, he rigged the game. Why else would people go from blindly idolizing the Phantom Thieves to immediately blindly idolizing Shido, even after his crimes went public? He brainwashed them, because in the end, he's a coward.
I like Persona bad endings, like in Persona 3 for example, they might seem ok to some people or without context, but if you analize the situation, it is a horrible ending
@@ComicWriter-ml3qt in "good" ending MC gets a fate far worse than death. The game, every social link you've done makes no sence as you just die and your soul suffers for eternity
Just finished this game and got the “good” ending. This is my breakdown of this one: So in this ending, Joker basically becomes Akechi. However, instead of plotting to take his revenge out on his father, he takes it out on the world. Ann, Ryuji, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru are all eternally trapped in the Velvet Room because they’ve all submitted to the detrimental flow of society. They all are now the slaves they wanted to free in Mementos. They are most likely a memory as the world was restored without them. This is hinted as Sojiro insinuates that he doesn’t know Joker is a Phantom Thief. Morgana gets his memories back, and realizes he failed his mission from the true Igor. Lavenza also can’t help but watch as her rehabilitation has failed in Joker. Society still elects Shido, however it is all for naught as the only Phantom Thief remaining takes on the nation as the sole figure of justice. He has truly achieved global influence. I wish this ending lasted longer. It would definitely give off more ominous vibes if it was shown that Joker’s friends are hopeless in this situation.
I remember getting confused by igors use of words on his deal offer and i almost accepted it if it wasnt for the second message asking if it was the right option
I love this ending because Joker clearly loves playing into the role of being a thief and fighting shadows so he just gives up on humanity to continue doing what he loves
"Yeah, sorry Lavenza... Maybe if your bitch half didn't kick the crap out of me every time I tried to walk into the Velvet Room, things would have ended differently!"
A bad ending done well. Think about it, you fell into yalbadoth's schemes. You become a corrupt figure yourself. Was surprised they didn't add DLC where his teamates have to fight shadow joker
People who think "Aha! This ending exists to show the difference between people who 'really appreciated' the game and people who just want a power-trip" have missed the entire point of how this game differs from 3 and 4. All those bosses you fought, even Kaneshiro, (along the lines of criminals at least) were normal and well-behaved... right up until they weren't. In each case, the palace owner found themselves in a position of authority that they could truly abuse to their own benefit and to the detriment of those around them. (Yes, even Kaneshiro's behavior marks a departure from criminal norms.) Why should Joker be so different, so pure, that his succumbing to this temptation should be viewed as at odds with his behavior? In this game, it's possible to be a criminal, a condescending jerk, a philanderer and a leech upon your benefactor (Sojiro) but this, this, is too far to bear consideration?
pretty fitting, he has been pressed down by so many, enemies and allies (the people in the velvet room) why shouldn't he get a choice that will save him some trouble
He's still essentially a murderer in this ending...while wiping away existence of literally every teammate he had. Let's not equates this in anyway to anybody else in the game lol.
joker has two potential sides - the righteous and the selfish one. and the player can chose which one fits more. i think they're both portrayed brilliantly, although the good ending is significantly more generic for my old ass
@Pokenonfan20 they can but only if their palace formed fist like with what happened in the pyramid palace and lab palace. If their persona awakened first then they can't have a palace
Now that I look back at this ending I think it would've been cool if Ren had went back to the velvet room to see his friends captured and them upset their leader, friend turned on them for his own self benefit, everyone yelling at him, but he turns around and laughs manically as he walks away
This ending frustrates me. I either like it or hate it based on an unknown variable. What happened to the rest of the Phantom Thieves? There is evidence to support four different scenarios. 1) The rest of the Phantom Thieves are all alive and functioning. It's called "Good Ending" in the game files. It appears he stays in the city, too. If this is the case, I think I may like this ending better. 2) The rest of the Phantom Thieves are alive, but have lost their will to fight. If Joker never speaks to them, they lose their ability to use their persona. With Joker accepting this deal, he is the lone member of the Phantom Thieves. I doubt he'd be able to convince them after accepting a deal like that. If this is the case, this ending is very neutral and I don't really hate it. It would mean his friends would eventually prefer to be controlled though. 3) The rest of the Phantom Thieves died in the velvet room, and everyone forgot they existed because of their cognition. This would be bitter, and I would now hate this ending. 4) Joker left everyone to die in the Velvet Room. This can now not be considered a good ending at all.
Well we don't really get to see the other members of the phantoms thieves so we can only assume the world had a "soft reset". The phantom thieves are stuck in the velvet room for ever, with no one even knowing their existence (when it comes to their true identities) as we lack characters like sae being present after the deal and sojiro being oblivious to the other members existence. But my most solid evidence this more of a bad ending is the fact that at the credits we hear the mementos theme just going on. I feel like this confirms how the world is fated to be imprisoned with the lack if proper choice and freedom. Although room for interpretation is welcome, I just feel like the worse side of the ending is more prominent.
@@dragonslayer060 Nobody knows Futaba or Makoto at all since their in "jail", dead It's really really bad plus the mementos theme starts kicking in as a sign that u choose the bad ending
@@tandues_orbis3182 A bit late, but remember how Yaldabaoth said the world would be recreated should Joker accept the deal? Even in this ending Sojiro acts more like how he acted around the beginning of the game, so a reset is likely.
@@grbrg4007 That makes a lot of sense. Maybe the other thantom thieves are alive then but have no recollection of being phantom thieves nor knowing one another. Seems like Joker is the only one being a thantom thief
I have to wonder why Yaldabaoth called this a "deal" when all bothered saying was what he'd do if Joker agreed I'm hoping all he wanted or expected in exchange was for the Phantom thieves/Joker to NOT tear through mementos and try to steal the treasure again
@@ThatOneGuy-qw1xx you have to get to the third semester and complete the route to (spoiler)’s treasure. Then you go to Mementos and you can find her there.
This kinda sucks. Not because you pick the wrong choice but the fact that it's only MC point of view. I would love to the reaction of the other members of the Phantom thieves and see how they react, if they know at all. Following a leader that damned mankind from free will. And to be perfectly honest, this isn't a bad deal. Everyone see you as heros, the cop are off your tail, and anyone stand a chance against you aka Pancake Boi is probably dead. Plus, crime and suicide rates are dropping and what cost, "free will" like anyone was using it anyway. But that my opinion, please prove me wrong. I like to hear your opinion.
Debutt Something definitely pretty bad if your friends are dead but really besides that it really wasn’t that bad of a deal. Besides the implied death of team everything is going really good. Ren probably has to do a lot of work. And if your teammates are alive this might make them hate you but atleast your confidants wont know the difference. Really it’s painted as a bad ending but a lot of good things happen. This is a well written “bad” end.
That was my first ending in Persona 5. Actually I thought False Igor will bring back my friends because he said that Phantom Thieves will gain fame. So, I decided to deal with Igor to bring them back. I didn't care about society being trapped because it its own fault in being irresponsible, ignorant and trapped in their desires. That's why Yaldabaoth appeared. He just granted them what they wanted. That's why I didn't care that False Igor will be controlling them. As I said, the goal of this for me was just bring my friends back. However, seeing Joker without them and with this evil smile gives me a dissonance. It seems False God got me. P.S. Sorry for my English, it's not my native language
You cut the adventure by killing god and showing your justice, as a hero. Or you stay too long, full of distorted desires, and see yourself become a villain.
I think this ending is quite scary because Joker accepts Igor's deal, Lavenza felt betrayed, his friends trapped in the Velvet Room forever and people stopped thinking for themselves and be guided by an evil god. It just makes me feel that I want to cry and regretted if I choose this bad ending.
Imagine p6 is about aftermath of the scenario where joker picked the bad ending. He basically gets a giant palace and one day some "new phantom thieves" rise up against him to stop him and maybe manage to revive the fallen original thieves and it all ends in a big fight of the ages.
they are stuck there, and it kinda seems like Igor isn't allowed to pick another slave to save the world duo to Joker still having having access to Persona
@Ishaal Imtiaz that's an interesting idea. I wish the next persona had a story that's as powerful as the one in p3, that story really did a number on me.
Joker: Are you seriously expecting a yes? The creepy floating, dark fog, glowing eyes, calling you a cup a god, wtf. As long as their is a way to stop your bullshit than fine. Just one more thing, I can always get anything or anyone I want free of charge now.
Joker: ( Smirks then walks away. Joker is thinking) Tired of this world's bullshit. I promised myself given the chance I would go down swinging my fist back and forward at the world. When society is a fuck and you don't experience their endless love, you will burn down the world just to feel it's warmth.
You switch perspective to another Phantom Thief (I'd say Mona) kinda like The Answer and go through Joker's palace and take away his ability to use personas.
scuffedlet well if you think abt it it’s actually the end for the phantom thrives they don’t get to live on as there trapped in prison and fin is when they made the great out of the ending just like how movies are left off with fin bc how amazing the plot was basically but for now this route is where there story really ended for the phantom thieves...
I love Persona for all the small things. Like putting Credits after this to implie it ends like that instead of a game over, since everyone probably just did load i dont think someone did go "yep thats the end next game"
I like this ending. Happy endings is too much cliche in this day and age. So many JRPG's out there that always end with the main characters all alive and celebrating their victory in the ending. It's good to see when a game gives you a option to choose to side with the dark side for your own personal gain. And compared to games like Shin Megami Tensei series, this ending is actually pretty good as a Law ending.
same i feel like persona 4 would've had a way bigger impact if like PERSONA 4 SPOILER BELOW!!!! nanako actually died and didn't explain everything away by like "gods fault again oops g"uys!!!!!
I also think nanako should have just died. Don't get me wrong i do care about her, but i laughed when "she came around" I think it would've been better for her to fake out die for every ending instead of just the one you throw the guy into the TV, then we could see the cast regret their rash choice.
All players who accepeted Igor's deal just wanted to finish the game sooner. It's impossible they would miss the point of the game after what happened in Mementos Edit: And I can relate to them cause it's so fucking hard
I love that this game isn't about good against evil, it's about law against freedom. Both are essential, but it's easy for one of them to take over by making the law to strict or the freedom to great.
@@Whisper71 actually taking a better look at the game it never really saw it denounce freedom just authority. Every palace was someone expressing authority over everyone else with not really much else to go by It would also makes sense with its influence and relevancy as it takes inspiration from Jungian psychology and Alberto Camus the Rebel. In the psychology standpoint it is in the individual perspective so to say they want freedom it is often their collective wants freedom, no other concern. For The Rebel it would dictate freedom is an abstract ideal to mean all our actions are nullified due to how dying would make those action inevitably meaningless therefore freedom to do anything with no long-term consequence as we are distracting ourselves until we death The relevancy is in Japan the ideal to have too much freedom would be a wet dream. I mean they ain’t exactly expecting more freedom to be a bad thing
In chaos there is freedom In law there is order But the more law there is the less freedom there is. The more chaos the less order. Society without rules is anarchy Society with excessive rules is tyranny. Neither of which are survivable by most. How much safety will you give up for freedom? How much freedom will you give up for safety? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself before you support any kind of society.
At 5:35 the businessman in Shibuya is, I'm pretty certain, voiced by David Lodge. He is the voice of fake Igor in this game, but he also voiced Jeralt in Fire Emblem Three Houses. The businessman is literally him doing his Jeralt voice. They sound identical.
They have a Law ending and a Bad ending now all they need is a Chaos ending instead of the Neutral true ending we got (or is it the other way around? Would Joker and the PTs killing Yaldabaoth to free humanity from it’s clutches count as Chaos?) I’m counting on Royal to give us a bunch of great story extensions that’ll satisfy me and the whole fanbase.
Aaron Page a heavy cost... Akechi is dead and Akira becomes the new champion of the false god, condemning humans to be sealed forever in their prison. It's heavy enough, I think (sorry for my poor english :P )
I agree. I wanted to see the world in a very dark state, yet the people still look up to the phantom thieves with numerous reports citing crime is down yet the world becomes much darker. Maybe even your character indulges more into the greed and power of it all. Now that all would make a great evil ending
alex dem Akechi being dead isn't really a bad thing, especially since he murdered hundreds of people, not to mention him canonically dying doesn't really effect the story. And humans being trapped in their own cognitive prison is a bad thing? At the end of the game people are still the same as they were before. As if the phantom thieves hadn't just saved their asses from eternal enslavement. That's what I didn't understand about this game, despite me liking it. Is that humans don't think for themselves even when the Holy Grail was defeated. Nothing truly changed. It was pretty anticlimactic in either ending in my opinion. Tbh I think humans would be better off not having free will, especially seeing as how most of the game was about the corruption of humans from the start.
The heavy cost is that all extrem bad twiste desires still exist and are nurrishing a god how forsakes humankind. And that you let exist, just so that you can implement yourself as a hero to society and hunt some of them down.
Honestly, I accepted the deal a few days ago because I just wanted to be done with it. The game was fun, but I didn't really enjoy it for some reason. I actually had way more fun with Persona 4.
Because it actually is a reasonable ending. It also makes sense if you think about it. throughout joker's journey with the phantom thieves and through the horrible and traumatic experiences he has seen in those palaces, it wouldn't be far fetched from this happening. He is the "Trickster" and he might have had a "Change o heart"
Kinda sad that after all the Phantom Thieves had done to prevent these people from stepping across the line is just ruined with words. I guess words really are sharp. :c
3:54 Too bad there was no way of showing to joker that this is a bad deal. What's that? PQ2 showed this? He witnesses this first hand and he chose this? Why!? Did they erase the Persona users' memories? they did? Ok. It looks like Joker made a good deal after all.
So the Trickster can undone Igor's (and therefore, Philemon's) wishes. Well, there's no doubt he can trick and defy fate. PD: Lavenza's expression. I couldn't take this ending because of that. :'(
This scenario is a good prequel for Persona 6, Joker could be be the Main Villain in the next game and the new Protag will rescue his former team mates in the final boss
They simply became the prisoners in the depths of mementos, content with life as is but incapable of changing in any way. Functionally losing all agency and expression
Humanity is now forever trapped in Mementos, so that ain’t too good, also Morgana isn’t with you anymore so it leads me to believe that you are the sole remaining Phantom Thief
...I'll betcha this is what Royal's plot is based on. We *can't* beat Yaldabaoth on our first go around, so we have to go deeper. And yeah, that'll include pulling Akechi in onto our side.
I don't understand this ending; what happened? so he accepted igors deal, so now humanity is being controlled by that God yes? Joker gets his fame and that, but what happened to the other Phantom Thieves? Why are people committing crimes? What's Joker doing after he accepted the deal with Igor? I need these answered! I have no clue what this ending means!
Sanser Just from seeing this ending for the first time, the other Phantom Thieves remain trapped in the Velvet Room prisons, people are committing crimes under the influence of Yaldabaoth, and Joker's changing their hearts to feel needed and keep living on as a Phantom Thief.
I had a hunch rejecting the offer would net me the good ending, but I had a save file so I could afford to make the wrong choice. I kinda thought that accepting the offer and restoring the world would give us the chance to regroup, strategize, and succeed in taking down yaldaboath, but I guess I was wrong
Humanity is now forever trapped in Mementos, so that ain’t too good, also Morgana isn’t with you anymore so it leads me to believe that you are the sole remaining Phantom Thief
So question for everyone If someone you knew for a long time turned out to be super evil and give you a deal like “You will become rich and famous” Would you accept that offer or go and defeat that someone
Welp no one saw that coming Ren betrays his teammates And now they’re locked up in the velvet room for all eternity While he got revenge on the world for mistreating him so essentially he became akechi and could solo palaces to murder people and enter momentos to murder shadows...that’s a hella dark ending and sad
