This was an interesting one to make. This is actually doubling as the final project for my Groove Writing class at Berklee! The final project required us to write an arrangement in one of the styles that we had studied during the semester. One of the styles that we studied this semester was Samba, so I turned the chorus of the song here into a samba!
The video here is also inspired by some of Jacob Collier's earlier multi-instrumental creations. I've always been fascinated by Jacob's work, and I firmly believe that the best way to learn how to be good at something is to imitate someone who's a lot better at that thing than you are! I spent a fair bit of time putting this video edit together. It's not my usual style, and I don't think I'll be doing this type of edit very often, but it was fun to break up the pace :D

I'm releasing today's video from an airport! I just finished up my first year of college at Berklee, and I'm incredibly excited to be heading back home for the summer! I guess this song title is fitting because my living situation and life are.... changing? I digress. Wow! The end of your first year at college. It feels like just yesterday when I found out you were in college! A lot has changed since then, I guess. Back then, I was a kid with a dream of being a jazz musician, but no clue as to how. Then, I found your channel, and after a while, you began to inspire me. Maybe it was your courage to pursue a life of being a musician, which seemed impossible for me at the time, or maybe it was how you took these songs that embodied my childhood and made them something greater, but whatever it was, I began to pursue my dreams. I went from barely knowing how to play a c-triad to composing my own jazz versions of songs from video games, and it is all thanks to you. You inspired me to be a musician, and while I still have a long way to go before I've accomplished all of my goals, I am not afraid to pursue my dreams. Thank you 🙏

Life will Change is my favorite song that I have listened to so far in the Persona 5 ost. This is a great interpretation of such a great song. Using Samba as the main style for this arrangement was an absolute genius move on your part, Carlos. Keep up the great work and congrats on finishing your first college year at Berklee.

it's one of my favorites in the OST too! honestly I think a lot of songs in the OST sound the same, but of course that's my opinion with me experiencing the OST apart from the game, I havent played P5 yet.

At 3:23 I froze. I was actually taken aback from hearing the sheer......i have no words. Fantastic. This really is good. The way your fingers glide across the keys too is incredible. You're very welcome! I would love to let the drums get the spotlight more, but it's a bit hard to show on video since there isn't any visual representation of the drum part. Lately, I've been playing the drum parts on my new MIDI drum kit, which does help the visualization aspect a bit!

Love the layout in this one! Very neat and interesting placement for the keyboards. The arrangement is superb, as always, but that just popped out to me. This is the most glorious thing I've ever heard. It's probably my favorite thing you've made so far. I've only recently discovered your channel about a month ago, and since then my ears have been wanting to hear more, so I've been listening to everything you've put out as I find them. It also really makes me want to be better at jazz and playing in general. You're clearly a very talented jazz musician, and I wish I could say the same for myself. How did you get so good? I understand that practice is very important, but jazz is something you have to feel in order to understand it, or so I'm told. Though this goes without saying, your work is absolutely phenomenal and I sincerely hope you continue to make these amazing covers, as long as they're still enjoyable for you to make, of course. I expected a much more sad and melancholic track when I saw the title, but I guess "Life will change" is a motivational approach which is even more fitting. ^^ Btw: The editing is strong with this one.. (and by editing I also mean Egal. the camera perspectives. Refreshing!)

I am so impressed by this! How do you figure out what chords progressions to use? This is something that's always eluded me. I can do simple chord progressions just fine, but ask me to figure out anything remotely complicated and I'm totally lost. Is it all just music theory that I need to study up on or is there a method to it? Been wanting to make covers for a while, especially jazz, but whenever I sit down to figure out a song, it feels like I'm at a standstill. Which is a massive shame because I really love the melody play and improvisational parts of jazz music. Anyway, amazing work as always!

listen to the bassline, melody line, and then harmonies in between to fill in the chords! this is mostly ear training. having a intermediate knowledge of chord progressions helps you understand what chords "should" appear in certain spots, and helps you make an educated guess!

Awesome cover as always! I haven't played Persona 5 (lack of PS4) but the music is great! As for the style of the video, I'm quite fond of your 'normal presentation' so to say but I don't mind it being changed up a bit every now and then! If I may make a request, I would absolutely LOVE to see you tackle Breath of the Wild's Hyrule Castle.

I read that isn't in your plans to do more Persona 5 until you play the game, so I hope that you can play it someday in the near future and make a rendition on Rivers in the Desert, is such a cool song and I think you would really could make it better.
