Persona 5 Strikers Nintendo Switch Review - Is It Worth It?

For real dude! I dont have a ps4 and have been wanting to play persona5 for awhile now. This will be the closest ill get to playing it. Hopefully the drop it on the switch but i doubt it...

All I have to do is look up the previous plot. Then I'll be good to go.

Well now at least Joker in Smash has been retroactively justified. And NO, let's not pretend he was in Smash because of some obscure 3DS spin-off games because I know a smart ass will bring it up.

the thing is why couldn’t they just release the original on switch rather than the sequel when they know ppl who don’t have a playstation experiencing it on switch wouldn’t understand the previous plot of the game?? makes no sense to me

it makes sense, because she’s supposed to be a digital assistant, like along the lines of Siri, Cortana, Bixby, and what have you. You know how human like they’re trying to make them sound. They are trying to make them sound less and less robotic by each assistant made. So it only makes sense.

also, fun fact, the voice of the assistant Emma, that everyone gets, is former voice of Siri Susan Bennett.

Her JP voice is even the same one as Poppy (Hana) from Xenoblade 2 which is a robot. So it fits nice.

And then as the game goes on, she gradually becomes less and less robotic as she grows with the Thieves. I love Megan Taylor Harvey, she did such a good job.

to be fair Atlus games typically take a long time to beat so I'm glad they gave out review copies so early

If you order the digital deluxe version off the eShop you get the game 4 days early

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne is also coming to switch, which was made by Atlus, so that migth be worth checking out too, if you like Persona.

It's not going to happen, you're better off getting it on PS4 also you need to play the 1st game to get the story otherwise you going to feel lost

Don’t watch the anime, it’s horrible. Watch a play through if you can’t play it, otherwise you’ll just have to get a PS4, they’re going down in price.

Persona is one of the few Japanese series I play in English. I actually prefer the English voices over their Japanese ones for the most part.(English P3 fuuka is pretty bad)

Get the PS4 version load times are much faster

Load times are still Atrocious as per Koei Tecmo but the performance itself is the same as mainline games: 30fps locked with a few dips and 720p handheld, 1080p docked.

I have not played the game but it seems there is a decend amount of stradegy to it. I do apriciate both turn based combat like Persona 5 and action orientet combat like Kingdom Hearts has. We alrady got turn based P5 so why not try out somthing different. I have to think of how beatifully summoner Yuna translatet from the turn based gameplay of Final Fantasy X to the real time fighting game gameplay of Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.

Have you looked at the game since this comment? It has all the usual weakness stuff and to get all outs you need to land crits or weaknesses like normal or you'll be in for long fights and trading blows. If you wanted you could literally go through little effort and play it turn based.

@@Buglin_Burger7878 I've played it.... almost platinumed it. I loved spending time with the characters again but hated the combat. If they had made the same story and just did normal persona combat it would have been game of the year material. I really hate when they turn RPGs into non RPGS.

You can but you'll miss out on a lot if you haven't played P5 or P5 Royal first.

@@avx10tech53 Persona 5 Royal is persona 5 but better. Persona 5 Royal is mostly the same as persona 5 except that it added some new characters and some post game. You’ll still understand everything about strikers if you play persona 5 Royal the original game isn’t necessary.

This is what I'm wondering

Switch for Handheld gaming and to show demand for a P5 Switch port. And a rising value of the physical game. PS4 better perfomance.

@@johnclopez96 To me, the Phantom Hunt missions broke the game. Also, I don't like how the game handles ingame Voice over. As much as it sucks that Hyrule Warriors Cutscenes where not voiced, its good that you don't hear the same phrases over and over again ingame.

@@johnclopez96 No, FE Warriors has these missions where a few mages create phantoms, that are reinforced by motivators and backed up by healers. In the German Version, they call it Phantom Hunts. These missions are basically a thick knot you have to untie before it chokes you out. It gets pretty tedious over time, though.

Well, this game it would be good. But I feel like is not a main game for the Saga, so it won't be like Persona 5 Royal was. Better if you wait for playing Persona 5 Royal before Strikers. If you don't have a Ps4 wait, maybe the game will be launched in PC after 1 year. Or see at least videos on RU-vid of the main story

@Wil E I finished Nocturne on PS2 and while there were things I liked, I can't say I'm really jonesing to replay it any time soon. Definitely not as good as IV or Strange Journey.

@Wil E Same. I'm getting 3D world this month and then Monster Hunter Rise next month. P5S is basically pushed back to a late summer buy along with Balan Wonderworld provided it gets delayed.

@@Froge0 I liked it way way better than 4. Strange Journey is the best SMT though. The original, not the 3DS port.

@@steel5897 IV is definitely a lesser game in terms of gameplay. The fact it is a total cakewalk after the first dungeon makes it fairly boring, but the world building, soundtrack and story are fantastic... Just depends on your preferences though, I can see why some would prefer Nocturne.

just beware of the loading times. They are not as long as people would like you to think, but they are kind of annoying because they take a while. I’d say about 10 to 15 seconds or so. Maybe 20 at the most. I’m not sure, I would have to go back and count each loading screen I’ve gotten so far. All I know is, I’m not complaining. Could it load faster? Yeah… But again, that’s only one minor complaint. Other than that, I’m enjoying the hell out of it.

Still, Royal's new semester is so bloody fantastic that that I can't help but feel sad about it

Came to the comments to check this as it seemed like detrimental misinformation. I'm actually put of is this is somehow not canon to p5r. But I don't see why it wouldn't be.

@@ssjduelistDD The status of Akechi is still unknown after Royal, I see no reason why they would mention Maruki, and Kasumi was a late addition to the team who moved away. No contradiction so it could be canon.

@@eriklarson5874 Kasumi is explained as being off at a gymnastics event, the Royal Palace is subtly referenced, and yeah we don't know what's up with Akechi which makes perfect sense. Royal is canon. It'll be interesting if certain characters pop back up in more P5 games (which would be welcome) but I think if they're looking to do more, they're going with the core member set plus a couple temp members rather than just bloating the cast out (unless P5 Arena, which seems pretty probable as well).

Dragon Quest Heroes were very fun games that changed up quite a few things from previous musou titles although people tend to forget these games exists, The first game is like a tower defense game but with action and the 2nd game is like an action rpg vs just a musou game

I found the original hyrule warriors did a very fine job as well with adding the bosses and their puzzle mechanics to beat them more interesting then what they did with age of calamity. Though the later one did a better job in preserving the lore of the original francize. As for Strikers I feel it less as a mussou and more like a jrpg like the Tales series and others where you bump into enemies and that initiates combat with a group of enemies. I feel the whole tactical map and conquering it is lost in this one. Perhaps I am wrong but none of the gameplay I find shows this the overall map progression during a match.

@@TheYdyp thats where you'd be right, persona 5 strikers isn't a straight musou with persona stuff in it but more of a Persona game with musou fighting systems in place but as for progression it is nothing like a normal musou game since there are stealth mechanics but with a more open map to traverse in to reach the end goal like the original p5. So basically a proper Action rpg instead of an action game with rpg like systems

There was a large amount of drama at gamexplain with several members leaving due to rather questionable practices from its head. I’d wager a guess that this is either his own personal channel or that he was one of the people who left, I’m not 100% if he was one of those who left or not.

Add Royale, because that improves a lot the original game. In fact, the best characters and story arc are in the third semester. And one of the best zones of the map is in Royal.

Pretty sure Sony has exclusivity deal on P5 and P5R but not the spin-offs so if you’re looking for the base game on Switch I doubt it’ll happen

You don’t need to play Persona 5 to understand Persona 5 Strikers. It is still a spin-off so it tells you everything you need to know about P5. At worst, you won’t understand name drops of characters who show up in P5 but not in P5S. Besides that, though, there isn’t much that they expect you to know that they don’t already tell you.

@@skx444 I know,and that's the interesting part...but the majority of players are reporting crashes on PC...I do have Windows 8.1,but I've seen comments of some people that Have Windows 7 and it works well for them,no crashes etc. It sucks but it is what it is...maybe when I decide to get a new fresh PC with Windows 10 I will give it another shot.

@@kratos.8151 it's not about being able to "handle it". Persona 5 was on ps3 so switch could run it without issues. Atlus probably had some deal with Sony when it comes to Persona exclusivity. They might port it this year seeing as P4 was such a success on Steam and seeing as it's the franchise's 25th anniversary.

No crashes and no pop ins, but frames drop very rarely by like 1-2. Very unnoticeable.

The load times are longer because of Koei Tecmo but performance wise yet it absolutely is better than ApC

@@otakuthegreat Atlus did a survey about 2~3 years ago asking if players would like to see the Persona franchise on other platforms. When they released Persona 4 Golden on Steam they wanted to see how many people would actually buy the game on a platform other than Playstation to test the waters for expanding their franchise for other platforms. Additionally ever since Joker became a fighter in Smash Bros. Ultimate, fans have been begging for a port of Persona 5 on Switch for years now. To get this, essentially a sequel to a game many Switch owners never had the chance to play baffles me considering everything I said above. According to many reviews, you had to have played the original game as it doesn't hold your hand explaining everything to catch you up before continuing the story. So if you missed out on the first entry that's apparently the players fault for not owning another platform just to play the prequel...
