I've seen that "Not Fair!" mentality with hurricane preps. After Ivan hit my coastal city, we got tons of calls at the PD for the next week or so wherein the caller was screaming about a neighbor that had a portable generator and it was "too loud" or "we can't sleep because he's running his a/c!" or some such nonsense. And, yes, there were some comments to the preppers to the effect of, "Oh, you had a generator, canned goods, and bottled water? You must have WANTED this hurricane to come in!" My g/f's teenage daughter (I've known her for several years now) adopted one of my sayings when someone lets bad stuff happen due to their own lack of diligence. "Failure to Plan" is a scathing indictment she levies on anyone who cannot or will not think ahead and set up plans and contingencies. :D Of course, by 10 or 11, she had taken to calling bad drivers "Jackasses" so I get blamed for a LOT of what comes out of her mouth. Meh, "blame", "credit" it just depends upon one's point of view, I suppose.

Remember how it was "racist" that some people left New Orleans before Katrina hit? Some people kept a pre loaded go bag (as anyone who lives in a coastal city that is below water level should), watched the weather and chose to leave on their own rather than wait for an evacuation order that never came. Somehow taking responsibility for yourself and planning was racist.

@bradbowhunts
@bradbowhunts 4 года назад
Well, I believe he's referring to 5.56. My .224 Valkyrie has a 24" barrel and anything shorter than 18 would be ridicuous in that caliber. My .450 Bushmaster has a 20" barrel. On the opposite end, my 300 Blackout has a 10" barrel and from what I've read, 9" is the optimal length for that caliber. I don't personally know anyone who is building 556s with 20" barrels. I'm sure they ARE being built and sold, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. FWIW... Edit: I listed a few of my ARs with different length barrels to show that I understand there are other AR-15 platform calibers that are more optimal with longer (and shorter) barrels than 16", the 6.5 being one of them. My point was that I believe the reference was to the modern, overwhelming popular 16" carbine length in caliber 5.56. It seems I didn't articulate that very well.

I was under threat at work, and while management dismissed it, I had the ability to procure materials. I purchased 2 yards of Kevlar fabric and 1/4 structural sheet fiberglass sheet (from McMaster Carr) and made an emergency blanket I could pull up from below my desk. I have no idea if it would have worked, but it was the best I could do at the time. I felt so betrayed by the company for ignoring the threat.

Thanks Paul . You're a thoughtful man and a gentleman . Just a few minutes into the video I had a couple of ideas that I thought I'd share while they're fresh in my mind . One idea is to get some chalkboard spray paint and a box of chalk sticks . Make the ceramic tile a chalkboard , instant reason for having it in your bookbag , and something to jot notes on . Having something on top of the plate to catch ricochets and spalling is another idea I had . Thanks for hearing me out .

Paul.. thank you. I am very very worried about my children, 8, 10, and 14. My three boys are my everything.. and years ago I had to tell one, he can't have light up shoes for school because they would make him stand out in a bad situation. I didn't tell him to what I was thinking of.. now I have some ideas how I can modify there backpacks if after the virus is over, we do send them back. After distance learning, and seeing how much calmer the city was, I'm tending to maybe do some thing different. But I want them to have a normal life, and my oldest really misses his friends, so this will give me some help and help me instruct on what to do with the situations that may occur. So seriously, thank you. Your channel and wisdom has always been on point, and hell I even started wearing a old Sears jacket with the duck pouch, because it speaks to wisdom and utility. I can attest to the ceramic being used for this. Story time.....I was at a friends house after a day at the range. He was going to clean one of his pistols. He picked it up & did not check to see if it was clear. At which time he pulled the trigger. Well… After watching a ceramic pot filled with pens on his table right next to me explode. And me checking for holes in my body...(and a quick visit to the head for a pants change). We started picking up the debris and noticed that ceramic pot completely stopped that round from even touching the wall. Not even a scratch. There were fragments of the actual bullet everywhere...even across the room. So yup ceramic is good for that.

Hey Paul, Thanks for the extra info on this topic. I did comment on the previous video about the ceramic tile order but i hadnt thought about the need for discretion until you had mentioned it in a reply to my comment, then it had seemed painfully obvious! Your points about people thinking bad on someone simply because they're prepared are absolutely true. I attended a High School where it was common to need to walk outside to another building to get to your next class. Being that i live in michigan and we get unpredictable rain, i carried a raincoat rolled up in one of the bottle holders of my backpack every day. I received many upset/annoyed remarks from people throughout those 4 years related to my having a raincoat every day -- especially when I would arrive in class dry while many others had been soaked.
