It looks to me like a lot of ENTJs can come off as introverts simply because they're so invested in their work and achieving their goals that they have little time to socialise, and also they can struggle to find people that match their energy levels, which can cause them to appear isolated and aloof.
Yes, but also it seems they still are less extraverted than ESFP, ESFJ and ESTJ, even sometimes than ENTP - when it comes to SPENDING time with people --- only what I've noticed, i cannot be sure

There were a few times Cillian mentioned in peaky blinder interviews that he was the complete opposite of his character who was an ENTJ. Interesting analysis.
Isfp and entj share the same four primary cognitive functions, I think, depending on his cognitive development it’s very likely that he’s overcome the “embody your goal” grind mindset that entjs are so mistakenly associated with.. their Fi is so undervalued much like the Fe of an Is/ntp
I already considered fi Dom type for him, this video actually made it even more clear he's not an entj for me. I'm now betting on Isfp. Also because My mom, grandpa and younger brother are all Entj in Myers Briggs and I have enough experience with entj people that I can identify easily when someone is an entj, I'm pretty sure Cillian Murphy isn't a Te Dom person at all. Thomas Shelby his character in peaky blinders is an Entj but Cillian Murphy the actor isn't that's for sure. After seeing this analysis and those full interviews he definitely made me consider ISFP even more. And ISFP makes perfect sense when you consider it while typing him, much more sense than a Te Dom like Eric has typed him as.
@@jenniferreally4724 YES!!!! i thought i was the only one. cillian reminds me so much of Michael Jackson personality-wise in interviews. They are both very similar which I find fascinating. they do have differences when it comes to laughing and nervousness but they are both similar.
It comes from being authentic. WE need more authentic people. This whole new movement that one is not born in the body they were given, has spawned very unauthentic, confused damaged people. So to see someone like Cillian perform, and off screen his intensity and life are authentic to his own self.
I see him as a very bright guy but private. He values normalcy. The whole awards season circuit took him out of his comfort zone. I don’t think he cares for stardom. He values his wife, children and his work.
A friend of mine is ENTJ and the first time I met him I was sure he was an introvert and he kept telling me that he's not. It took me a while to understand that he simply doesn't enjoy socializing or talking to a lot of people and that if he doesn't talk to me for months is not personal.
I'm like that as an estj, because I'm not good at socializing so I don't like it, however I don't get tired from being around a lot of people for hours.
This is a common thing. I've seen a lot of ENTJs being mistaken for introvert. I think every ENTJ gets mistaken for INTJs. I myself always make this mistake.
I've always been intrigued with his interviews, handsome or not, he's one of those actors who has always allowed me to become totally immersed in the story and the characters.
It's interesting to know that the wealth of his theatrical work are plays by Enda Walsh. Endas works can be extremely explosive and physically demanding with volcanic emotional display. Its interesting that his connection to that type of work is where he seems to thrive as an artist. Then yet, he can seem so reserved and simply inquisitive in the other areas of his work. Hes a wonderful actor who really explains his work beautifully.
I would have never put him as an ENTJ. Because I didn't quite understand the concept of extroverted thinking. Being an ENTJ myself, I thought extroverted people almost always had to be loud and social. So I would have put him INTJ or INTP at first. But he really is like his character Tommy Shelby, which is also typed as an ENTJ ! Thank you so much for all your knowledge ! :)
@@aspannashe's the complete opposite in morality and other personal aspects, it doesn't mean they don't have the same general personality type. Two people with the exact same type can have very diverse nuances when you get down to it
I think the introversion has to do with sharing his personal life. But the extroversion can be seen when he’s putting his all into something he’s passionate about, whether that’s music or acting

@@TheRockzone03 because the jungian extraversion and introversion mean something completely different from current definitions. According to Carl Jung introvert is someone who takes mainly subjective factors into consideration while making decisions or perceiving something, while an extravert takes mainly objective factors such as outside expectations (whether they come from others or just from a "common sense" of what's right and wrong, what you should achieve etc.)

Once again, I really enjoy how you explain the balance between the secondary and tertiary functions, and how the E/I in a person's MBTI really has nothing to do with whether the person is a social extrovert or introvert. I use the words "externalized" and "internalized" to remind myself that E/I isn't about social comfort.
Another ENTJ! You know, I always feel like my personality matches the person before you reveal they are fellow commanders. We are orchestrators, we creative direct, we delegate. It’s interesting how goal oriented this type is. Helps me understand myself! :)
As a fellow ENTJ, this was really interesting! I see myself in a lot of what you described about Cillian, actually. Weirdly enough, I’m also described as “introverted”, but it generally comes from a feeling of not wanting to share my life with random people. However, I can instantly tell if I’m going to be friends with someone, and I’m able to share my full self with those people once trust is established. That’s when the extroverted energy comes out. 😋
Not saying I agree with ENTJ but alot of personality database users rely on stereotypes and have warped views of the cognitive functions so I wouldnt rely on the PDB consensuses too heavily when typing someone
You can't type people based on their obvious introversion or extraversion, because that isn't how the cognitive functions work. Someone can still be socially introverted, but be an extraverted type.
He seems driven by extroverted thinking and has low introverted feeling, that was his basic reasoning. But if you want more than that you could always watch 6 hours of his interviews :)
An ENTJ can hit all the marks for being 100% reserved and still be an ENTJ. I'm not saying for sure that hes an ENTJ but you guys confusing typing systems is what causes so many mistypes.

Nope. INTJ here and all the things he says about excitement and danger line up with me. I am interested in things that are difficult, a puzzle, a project. I enjoy the spontaneity of theater because it IS so difficult for me.
I don't see him with blasts of emotion from time to time like an Adel (ENTJ) plus he talks heavily about how he feels about things (higher FI than ENTJ)so INTJ fits better imho

This was such an educational video to me, since I'm an ISFJ(SiFe) I only grasp the basic knowledge of my personal cognitive functions, so SeNiTe aren't quite familiar to me yet. I’m an ENFJ married to an INTJ and for some reason, I expected this analysis to be an INTJ but now I see how the E totally makes sense for Cillian. Same here. I’ve heard some people saying Victoria Beckham is an INTJ and I’d love an analysis on her. Unfortunately I’m not sure if he’d make one since it probably won’t get as many views as a video on a trending celebrity would.
Cillian is Irish … being raised Irish your taught to don’t ever think too much of yourself and if you get too ahead of your pride it is smacked out of you straight away … in other words he’s a very humble man . He loves and is so passionate about his job but he’s definitely Irish when he never lets it go his head as he’s been taught to be humble . I really like this Guy and how he loves his wife and children so much and he always credits his wonderful wife for her support and patience with him .
I see him as Fi/Ne. The way he describes his love for creating an authentic (!) immersive experience for a story, seems so characteristic for Fi/Si (INFP).
I know Eric watches a ton of footage, but still I feel like some people act more extroverted in front of the camera. He is an actor after all. But I'm ESTJ and people in my family think I'm an introvert, and I used to as well, so it's hard to say.
This video is sending me into an identity crisis, but in the best way possible because it gives me so much to reflect on. I am not sure if i am an entj or an intj, i still haven't figured myself out. There are times where I try to understand myself better by looking at other people, especially famous ones, with my same personality type. I thought, as almost everyone, that Cillian was an intj. And you proved me wrong (thank you for that). But while i was listening to him talk about his work, I could relate a lot. Yeah, it's interesting. I've noticed that ENTPs can seem introverted because they aren't always very expressive or loud, and ENFPs can have a very mellow vibe and enjoy solitude. I love learning more about the functions versus just trying to go by whether someone feels introverted or extroverted, based on how outgoing they appear.

But the thing is that us intjs dont express our Ni so obviously like you would expect. I mostly express my Ni through being zoned out because i am not processing the information that is happening at the moment. Im just thinking of future plans and abstract consepts so Most often people only notice my Te because thats the most extroverted function i have so when people ask for my opinion i might be more blunt. Hi there, I just want to share my experience as an ENTJ TLDR: Being an extrovert doesn't mean you spend most of your times engaging in conversations or socializing with others out there When you're an extrovert, you're energized by interacting with people, while the opposite will happen to the introvert. As an ENTJ, I spend majority of my times in my study, I can be working and staying in my study for 10 to 12 hours a day. I can spend hours without talking to anyone except for work-related matters. Once I'm done with my works, I will feel drained and need to socialize with other people. I'll talk to anyone I happen to meet, whether it's my mom, dad, neighbors, passerby, the deliveryman - anyone. I can initiate and build interesting conversation, they'll be gladly to engage in small or deeper talks with me. I can be very funny - not in the way comedians do, but because I tend to let out unpredictable remarks, comments, or reactions and people I'm interacting with find it so hilarious. But when I'm in the middle of a group of people, I prefer to stay silent and observe, my mind will be busy calculating what and when and how to say the right things and to whom. I rarely use my social media, the last time I used it was only to promote my new business to my friends on social media. Other than that, it's as dead as graveyard. I think it's not impossible for Cillian Murphy is an ENTJ, he's so absorbed in his works and he always give the best calculated responses so far in many interviews.
Thank you so much for posting this video! Lots of personal insights about myself have been revealed I have always believed I am and INFP but no one perceives this in me because I come off as an ENTJ. I rarely talk about myself because it is not effective and doesn’t contribute to my work, when my priority is the quality of my work. I can only show my INFP to friends and some family.
Doubt that lol. I am INTJ and for some reason have a lot of people in my life who are INFP. The only way INFP can resemble anything close to xNTJ is their TE. And most INFP have really underdeveloped Te. And even singular exception who had Te at relatively high level still had his Fi in spades. FiSI loop is the most prominent feature of INFPs. They also have some creative side usually . They have no Ni whatsoever. And their Te is very poor (It never gets to see the light of the day because they act mostly on FiSi loop)
Entj is known to be a natural leader. Cillian has mentioned in his interviews that he's not a leader type. The basis of your analysis dwells heavily on the fact that he turned off his emotions and focuses on the good work or the fact that he tends to let work define him- I don't know if personality plays a lot here. Anyone with a drive/passion having a big role to play would have experienced the same. My thoughts anyway.
the basis of your analysis is something shallow and arbitrary?? i agree it will never be 100% accurate to type someone via interview clips but him not identifying as a natural leader is enough to knock him off an entire type is so puzzling to me. if personalities types were so kiddie pool deep, then no one could ever type themselves because humans are so complex and so are types. mbti is not a strict uniform that overrides all personal individuality, why do people act like it is. it would be so boring and no fun whatsoever if that was the case. lame!
As an entj, no, i dont want to be on leadership roles. It's something that is given to me, and not me personally seeking it. Now, that makes your entire argument naught.
Hey Eric, Interesting analysis! I see the Se/Ni balance, but I thought the examples you offered for Te could equally be reflective of strong Ti. As well, the little bit of emotional expression offered at the list of other actors could be indicative of 4th slot Fe. The draw to danger, diving in, and being pushed past limits lines up stronger in my mind with xxxP types than xxxJs. Did you consider ISTP as a possibility for Cillian?
Great question! Too much to fully explain here but basically his logical detached side never really showed signs of Ti. It wasn’t personal logic or reasoning or about peoples feelings and values. But instead always very focused on making things progress, being competent, his work, goals, making something work, etc. He was actually very into setting his personal opinion or thinking/feeling aside in order to accomplish his goals or get something done. In a very Te way. It’s true some of those qualities do sound Se maybe higher - with Cillian - all that jumping into things, danger, challenges etc weren’t really about being in the moment more fully. It was always very goal focused. Let me push myself harder or really jump into things so I can make my impossible challenge possible or even better. Which is very ENTJ. As well, ISTP’s do have an intuitive side but not quite in the same way as NJ’s. Cillian constantly liked talking about things in an abstract and sensory way with an ease and flow that SP’s wouldn’t wanna do all the time. Also, for instance the dancing between the raindrops cue…most people would not find that very clear or concrete or specific enough…but for Cillian you saw he actually liked reading between the lines and patterning off of that. It was actually exciting to him to guess like that. Anyways lots more than just that, but hope that can help! Appreciate the thoughtful question and you being here!!
Social extroversion and cognitive extroversion is not the same thing idk when will people start understanding this! Im an infp but that doesn’t necessarily mean that i have to be introverted and shy (which im not)

(regardless of introversion/extroversion,be it cognitive,social or whatever) he isn't direct,he isn't alwasy going right to the point when discussing (not in any kind of a conventional way at least,anyway),he may not expect to always gain something after every conversation/interview that he takes part in (outside of intellectual stimuli on topics dear to him,apparently), nonetheless he doesn't seem to sense any issue with opening his heart greatly from time to time (aside from the moments when he might be using a persona,as he's an actor after all) when talking about the art that he's producing to the point where you can't help but notice that there's something natural and very willing on his part about what he's doing etc.. i'm far from an expert I must admit,but this dude ain't no ENTJ,to me at least (no TE dom or no Fi inferior,however you may like to put it).this is rather a case of a classic IXTJ (with me personally leaning towards INTJ more,all things considered),but those are just my two cents that I'm betting,after all..
@@starpixelproduction7571 your argument is a lot more acceptable than the original comment but here’s the thing, as a particular type with an inferior function and consciousness of that, a person would try to put more effort into it For example, as an infp, my Te is extremely weak and im very aware of it, therefore i try to be better at it and sometimes for this reason im so aggressive with Te that one may assume me as a xxTJ, similarly an entj (assuming he is one) like him who is in his late 40’s must have spent time learning to utilise his inferior Fi especially as an actor, a job where it would only be beneficial to learn utilise Fi This is my theory on why him and jenna ortega (entj) give that much importance to Fi even tho its their inferior function However i obviously agree that i could be wrong and this might be just MY theory and truth might be something else but this is what im choosing to believe at the moment

Its partly cultural - I'm Irish living in Germany and a huge difference is that it's considered 'honest' and 'sincere' in Germany to talk about ones'self whereas people who do that in Ireland are considered insufferable bores. I'm not totally sure of how that pans out generally in the USA - I would have expected such 'therapy' talk to be left more to the professionals there and kept separate from normal social interaction? but I do remember a few relative strangers in New York expecting me to take them especially seriously while talking on personal, subjective aspects of very trivial experience - which seemed a wierdly embarassing trait to me

I think he is an INTJ - definitely an Introvert; as an ENFP, the most introverted Extroverts, I don't see the E with Cillian at all; he's also a lot like my husband which is an ISTJ but this is just a personal stance. Love your videos though PS: Introverts can look like Extroverts when they talk about their passions. My husband uses 500 words per day but won't shut up when he talks about airplanes. Still an Introvert at the end of the day.
Totally understand the confusion about him maybe being an extrovert! His “extroverted” side isn’t at all like what most extroverts seem like so makes sense it’d seem a little strange! In cillians case, his Extroverted side (Te) doesn’t show up as much with him being louder and social but instead more in how much he likes getting out there to work on things and help things progress and get done! For him, it’s really energizing to work with the outside, interacting and pulling together resources and talent. If there’s an important goal, he’s one to like to jump into action, and really push hard to make the big projects / goals he cares about real. And he does this Te with a level of comfort, speed, confidence and eagerness that IxTJ’s normally are a little stressed out by or try to avoid. Does that help at all? The words he is using to describe both the feelings and the sensorial experiences are very particular and unique. This is a sign of both Fi and Si, which both of them deal with subjective and personal interpretations of feelings and sensations. Se uses a more general, commonly known, words and associations when describing its sensorial experiences. I actually see him as INFP, Fi/Ne.
I think he is an introvert at heart as far as he and his family goes. His passion for acting is when he gets more engaged and excited. I have seen small clips of him at functions or interviews, and he seems to be a million miles away. He does not feel really comfortable being in the spotlight except for acting. He seems at times to be wondering what or how did I get myself into doing this. Then he gets that faraway look in his eyes and even his expression. He would be happier just doing a movie and not having to do talk shows, interviews, and walking the carpets. He probably spends a lot of time introspecting. If he is intellectually stimulated, it comes through, but he does seem like one for stupid chit chat. I recognized these traits in him almost immediately because I too am an introvert and would rather be alone than chit chatting. If you can intellectually srimulate me, I'm right there. It must be hard for him at times.
Thank you so much for this video. Not at all what I expected. I wonder how can you tell if a person gets drained or energized by interaction. Because I thought his none involvement or wondering thoughts were of an introvert being drained or just uninterested in what was going on around them.
That makes sense! If I just saw a couple clips, no way I could have figured anything out either! I was expecting him being an introvert too! It really did take hours of researching, learning about him and checking different things or else i wouldn’t have had any idea or good enough clues to work off of!

For some reason, his personality has really been bothering me a lot and I'm not completely sure why. I just get red flags about this person, but I can't quite figure it all out. I've witnessed some possibly narcissistic and very manipulative tendencies but am not sure what his exact psychology is. Your evaluation would be great. I could provide specific info on certain interviews, etc to evaluate body language, remarks, and reactions to others if that would help.

He's got the Irish 'quiet man' persona, but is in no way stilted or shy. He knows he has to give of himself in interviews about the character or experience and he is adept at that.

That is interesting... From all of the character studies Ive seen of his most significant character to date, Thomas Shelby from the Peaky Blinders, he is also analyzed as an ENTJ... Now on the surface you wouldn't think they are too similar, but after watching this, it does seem that Thomas Shelby and him do share more in common than you would think are first blush.
Very interesting analysis. I have definitely observed his extroverted sensing in the past. Ill look more into it though. So far ENTJ definitely does make sense. Growing up i definitely assumed i was an introvert as well until i was introduced to cognitives. It was more of black and white before then.
I can see where you're coming drom but you're analyzing him only from interviews which are inherently social and also televised. It's very possible that he's keeping his emotions out of it because that's a very private or vulnerable part of him that he doesn't want to invite the public into. If in a vulnerable spot, Fi can be extremely private, even INFPs can vome off as emotionless or deadpan because they don't deem it safe to come out.
Thanks so much for breaking this down so well! I found a clip just tonight and had to do a quick back scroll to realize he was in a very embarrassing interview with my ex out in LA. (My Ex, Leo Quinoes (IFilm interview) was making sexual innuendos, and you could tell that Cillian just wanted to be anywhere else.
I would love if anyone could compare ISTJ with ENTJ because now I'm feeling confused about myself. I have always felt correct in beung ISTJ but I alwayd thought introversion as being alone, no friends, quiet, in my head, but now hearing this, I'm very goal oriented, I have a very "psychologist", helping, teacher, kind of personality. I'm an ESTJ that isn't very social, (but I don't get drained from being around people) so it's possible. One thing different about the introverted and extroverted types are their blindspot, which is the cognitive function you use or care about using the least. It's Fe for ISTJs and INTJs, Ni for ESTJs, and Si for ENTJs. From your description it sounds like you probably don't have Fe (or caring about the feelings and values of the group) as a blindspot. So I would look at ESTJ vs. ENTJ and Si vs. Ni.
hey Eric! would you be open to doing a kpop idol? there is this one guy in particular Jake from Enhypen. They are one of the most popular kpop boybands of today and he's got the fans stumped on his personality type. His pdb page is a mess! It's between isfj, isfp, and estp. There are videos with subtitles because of Kpop's growing international fanbase but also ones where he speaks English because he spent a lot of years in Australia!

@@Ganasdemejorar I know, but I still don't see the ENTJ. He is constantly talking in the context of work, which is a very one sided way of judging a personality type. He's daring in his work, maybe not so much in personal relationships etc
