after reaching the final of the 2019 copa america in brazil thus losing to the hosts this should have been the springboard for them to qualify for a second consecutive world cup. automatic qualification was in sight. they should have beaten uruguay and another side to get 4th spot behind ecuador, brazil and argentina. Qatar 2022 would have been their fourth different world cup after mexico in 1970, uruguay in 1930 and argentina in 1978; spain in 1982 and russia in 2018. i was happy to see them in russia 2018 although i wish they could have made it out of the group stage thus dispatching another european side in the process. france and australia would have awaited them again in the group in qatar 2022 just like in russia 2018.
