Sometimes the challenges of shallow water catfishing are too much to bear. On this trip the turtles were unrelenting, and when the turtles weren't on the bait the small catfish were. Fortunately, I was able to overcome this obstacle and still reeled in a few catfish. Getting your bait in front of a catfish is the only way to catch one, and often that means sacrificing several good baits to non-target species like turtles to make it happen. After the turtles have destroyed a bunch of your baits it is just a matter of time before you drop one in the face of a big catfish. The same proved true once again on this outing and reminded me all over again of why I love catfishing.
