Pest Control for Dummies [OSRS 2019] 

Pest control is great way to get some of the most powerful sets of armor in OSRS, the Void Knight Equipment, and fair combat experience. It's something necessary to complete for any account. This guide comprehensively covers the best methods for 2019.

EQUIPMENT
Bring your best nondegradeable armor and weapons, a spec weapon and if you want more xp/hr some stat boosting combat potions. Food and prayer potions are not necessary as dying doesn’t matter and you typically won’t run out of prayer before the game ends. Your goal is to move from portal to portal and kill each one as quickly as possible. There is some downtime between portals so you can kill monsters while you wait. Runelite will tell you which portal’s shield will come down next so you can run to the next one before the shield drops.
MONSTERS
Splatters have low hp and explode upon death dealing damage, ignore these. Brawlers take up 4 tiles and cannot be walked through or shot passed using ranged or magic. Defilers fire ranged attacks and can shoot through the wooden walls. Ravagers destroy the barricades and doors. Shifters use melee and can teleport like abyssal demons. Torchers use magic and can cast spells through the wooden walls.
The most important enemy to be conscious of are spinners. These don’t attack players but heal the portals. If you have less than 4 players attacking a portal, it’s best to kill these spinners whenever possible, and then go back to attacking the portal. If you have a larger crowd of players, you can easily out dps the spinners and kill the portal which is the fastest and best option. If a spinner is alive when the portal is killed, it will explode and poison surrounding players. Due to the short nature of the games this poison damage can be ignored.
REWARDS
A set consists of the void gloves, robe bottom and top and a helmet. When wearing the full set, this armor provides a 10% melee damage and accuracy bonus for melee, a 10% ranged damage and accuracy bonus for ranged, or a 45% accuracy bonus to magic. The robe bottom and top can be upgraded to elite versions after completing the western province hard diaries for 200 points each. Each piece provides an extra +3 prayer bonus for a total of +6. They also provide a bonus 2.5% damage boost for the magic and ranged set.
The ranged set is by far the best set; ranged armor typically doesn’t give a damage boost, only accuracy. That makes this void set very unique, and useful in almost any situation where you are using ranged. Armadyl provides a larger accuracy bonus, so in some niche cases fighting monsters with a lot of defense, armadyl can provide more dps. For almost every situation the void ranger set is the best ranged armor for combat in general.
Melee armor provides a strength bonus, so bandos armor will always yield more dps than void. The melee set is very useful for fighting corporeal beast, because the armor has positive magic defense whereas most melee armor has negative magic defense. You desperately need that at corp because he hits often and hard with magic.
The magic set isn’t very useful. It gives only a 2.5% magic damage bonus with the elite set, and the 45% accuracy bonus sounds great but typically doesn’t help you. You usually fight monsters with magic when they have level 1 magic and basically no defense, where accuracy really doesn’t matter much.
OBTAINING POINTS
The fastest way to obtain points is to take the veteran boat. The veteran boat provides 5 points a game and requires 100 combat, intermediate is 4 points a game and requires 70 combat, and the novice boat provides 3 points per game and requires 40 combat. The games don’t take longer on a harder boat so it’s always best to take the best boat you can for faster points.
If using the veteran boat, a regular set of void ranged costs 850 points and takes about 6 ½ hours to obtain. A full elite void ranged set costs 1250 points, and takes 9 ½ hours to obtain on average. A complete set with all helmets is 1650 points, and takes almost 12 ½ hours.
WHEN TO OBTAIN A SET
Because void ranged is something you need for your account eventually, the real question is how quickly should you get it? Void’s power increases with your ranged level. If you are training early ranged with slayer, the black mask is going to be a lot more useful. If you plan on training by cannoning or chinning, void can increase your xp/hr by quite a bit.
At level 40 combat, if you are training melee anyway, the novice boat is a fairly efficient place to train. It’s much worse xp/hr than something like sand crabs, because the monsters at pest control actually have defense, but you can work on obtaining void at the same time. The novice boat is 40% slower than the veteran boat for points. Getting void knocked out while training melee at the same time, before you have access to nightmare zone is most efficient.
