I once had a boyfriend who looked JUST like Eridan, even cosplayed him unknowingly, by request of our mutual friends at the time who liked Homestuck and noticed too. He didn't read it and it was hilarious. Then I gradually realized that he had a personality to match. We broke up in 2 months.
as we all criticize and love eridan, lets be remided that he was 13 (in human years) and while his behavior shouldnt be excused, we can agree that he is not and irredeemable character because, again, he was 13, and was killed off instead of getting a redemption arc.

If he is capable feel bad about doing something wrong and apologizing about something, then he can be redeemed, it's a very simple concept. If anything, I'm not saying he deserves better, just that he deserves better than Vriska at least...

He’s an asshole, a self centered narcissist, a borderline sociopath and, let’s be real, while fef might be kinda shitty, he sits on a whole other level of being pretty goddamn shitty.
He did what he did solely because he thought it’d save his skin. Committing to a plan about sacrificing his friends to keep himself alive. Like, he’s a great character who could’ve had some good depth to him, but he’s a dogshit person and we shouldn’t delude ourselves into thinking otherwise

What do you mean? This was written really fucking well. It was the best blend of fanservice and realistically having eridan as eridan. He isn’t perfect, he’s flawed in many, many ways, his “friends” either hate him or can’t stand to be around him, but that doesn’t make him a bad person, honestly all that really suffered was that he lost his airship, but he’s violet, he can just buy another one. Plus the route ends with you and him watching shrek, clearly the best ending of all the pesterquest routes
LoL I will admit it was pandering. But this route was quite frankly the best interpretation of eridan so far by different writers. Whenever I see people portray eridan, they either make him a soft boy or satan. People failed to understand that eridan, despite having many valid reasons as to why he went apeshit, still went apeshit in the first place. The hemospectrum segment that follows after the gender commentary is a stark contrast to the gender stuff, a blatant reminder that eridan is a fucking racist, whether he genuinely believes it or not. But again, he isn’t purely evil either. The whole reason he wanted to side with bec noir was because he genuinely thought there was no way to defeat him, and that maybe siding with them will help. He didn’t want to kill feferi either, and did that out of self defense, as she was charging at him. Most of what eridan does is chalked up to neglect from others, and clouded judgement (destroying the matriorb was a dick move though) A character like this is difficult for most people to really get a grasp of, as people tend to focus on one aspect or another of eridan, either focusing on his crippling Loneliness or the heinous shit he’s done. This was one of the few times they actually got the formula close to right. Could they have left the gender stuff out? Yes, they definitely could’ve, but I’m glad they didn’t do that for the entire arc and griever remembered that eridan is a hipster incel that got fucked over a lot of times but still caused half their own problems

If you would’ve asked me what my thoughts on eridan were, I’d tell you he’s a prick and leave it at that. Now I’ll tell you he’s a prick, but he’s got some redeeming qualities (better than zebruh, that’s for fucking sure)
