FP Corporation, Gifu
The FP Corporation has been in the recycling business for more than 20 years now. At its facility in Gifu, it has specialised in PET recycling, most recently in the bottle-to-tray category as well. For this purpose, it uses a PET recycling line from Krones -- a complete system comprising a washing module and a decontamination module.

i dont know if something like this exists in america, but it should. i went to japan for the first time a few months ago and they take their recycling very seriously. I would like to see the rest of the world take it that seriously as well.

Did you notice there isn’t trash lying around the streets as well? My grandma always says everyone picks up after themselves and for other people if they don’t notice it.

If you’re super strict about cleaning garbage off the earth and recycling properly, you can have this done to virtually every single bottle and plastic made.

Thanks. The video says 'The pet flakes sink to the bottom. Closer materials float to the surface.' But, as I know, the most of labels used in Japan are heavier than water. How this process(system) separate labels and pet flakes from caustic waters as explained?

In the process the float-sink-principle is used: the lighter closure materials actually float on the surface of the water and are separated from the heavier PET flakes that sink to the bottom.

@@krones i say the pet label with dotted line and adhesive label attached bottles. It is ground with pet bottle, is it blew by wind after mingling process?

@@mjlee396 After it is ground and mingled with the PET bottle the label materials are separated from the PET in a zigzag sifter.

@@mjlee396 I guess PVC labels are separated also at the final stage. Then they sort out colored flakes they must do it with NIR-VIS-sorter. The same sorter can remove PVC simultaneously.

As you can see in this video, another plastic container are made of the recycled PET. But with the right equipment, it is also possible to make PETs again.

@@krones The " right equipment " ? The recycled PET is already food grade. " it is possible. ". So - 7 years on from this video and they still have not done it. Japanese Capitalism shall not allow even food grade recycled PET to go back into PET bottle production. They'll eagerly permit the invention of new and previously not thought of plastic product, such as those trays, to be created from recycled PET so that they can continue to measure their affluence from the waste stream which they create, but they shall not allow recycling to positively reduce the wasting of virgin raw materials.

Plastic bottles in Japan are so tough and thick. I figured that's because they are recycled as they are over and over again. They should really make their bottles thinner as most other countries do.

Does a one ltr bottle in Japan weigh more than 48grms.

I wonder in this kind of recycling process, will there be another external waste that--would not be emitted if we haven't used PET in the first place--is being emitted? E.g. the water to wash those flakes, and the light particles that floats on water and can't go into the final product...

Wina B Thank you for your question! Compared to the production of new goods, our recycling process considerably conserves resources. The water is used multiple times and is purified repeatedly. The materials which swim on top of the water originate from sealing caps which are also processed further as products. Kind regards!

Jan We are sorry but we can not say the prices of our machines in general. Each machine is manufactured individually for the customer and therefore always costs differently. 🙂

It's an excellent machine. I would like to see the new models of this process if there is any improvement. Coca-Cola is aiming that all pet wastes will be generated by 2030. I think these kind of machineries will be used on this course of action.

It’s not that PET can be recycled infinitely is it? Then this is a great technology but yet such a waste of energy and cost of running a machine and to recycle the PET bottle. They should ban plastic bottles all together and people should carry their own bottle...

You’re right. But it’s idealistic. Hearing the cap crack and the pressure psssht of opening a soda bottle, nicely wrapped in a colorful sleeve is a big part of the mental pleasure. For the personal bottle to take part of this business, someone needs to design a machine that takes your standardized bottle, rinses it, fills it, caps it and finally wraps it with a new shiny thermoshrunk sleeve. Then only soda giants will accept it. Not unthinkable in Japan where convenience store are everywhere. More problematic with the myriads of vending machines that do not have access to fresh water.
