I just hope it's a sign of an 80's revival overall --- it's obvious to even Millenials that their culture is DEAD --- let's go back to a glorious time when music and movies and attitudes actually were positive and upbeat and not always depressing and suicidal

@@milanwoods702 Personally, I found the book to be a cautionary tale of what can happen if we allow grief to govern our actions, and the only way to escape it is to accept that death is a natural part of life. As said in the book, "sometimes dead is better". It also cautions against trying to play God, with the god figure in this case being the Wendigo. And I think that's where its value as a horror story comes from; its delve into that particular aspect of humanity. Think about it: if you were in Louis's place, can you honestly say you wouldn't do what he did?

Been listening to the audio book and it gives a good synopsis from Stephen King about why he thinks Pet Semetary is his most terrifying book he's ever written. A few years ago I was driving up in Hancock, Maine and a flock of birds passing across the road almost went into my windshield. I kept driving and slowed down noticing a field next to me that had a view to the ocean. Then I realized I was at the same place the original movie was filmed and I had just passed over the spot where Gage had been killed. I got out and took pictures of the house, which still looked much the same as it did in the film. An experience I will never forget.

Tommyknockers is already greenlit for a remake. Check it out on Wikipedia, and you'll see. Can't wait to see it. And Yes!!! A Salem's Lot remake would be incredible too. Out of the Stephen King remakes, I'm the most pumped for Tommyknockers though. There's not enough, really decent Alien movies out there. But the original Tommyknockers was really well done. Although technically, I guess they're sort of like Demons too, since they can possess people. But I never understood why Hollywood hasn't put out any really terrifying Alien Abduction movies yet. Besides maybe 'Fire In The Sky', I've never seen a really good, high budget, super terrifying Alien Abduction movie yet, where people get abducted by Aliens, and where it shows all the experiments, research & torture that Aliens perform on the humans. The only movie I can think of, is 'Fire In The Sky' that focuses on that kind of stuff. And that was all the way back in 1990. So hopefully the Tommyknockers remake will be a really good Alien movie.

How bout no? Anyone who actually reads his books, instead of pretending they do has no idea why those things are even mentioned. I'm not even gonna list them, because constant readers already know. Hollywood will just shit out something dumb, like The Dark Tower for example. That is all the more 'cinematic' that there needs to be.
@NateAnderson69
@NateAnderson69 5 лет назад
@@zzzhuh Yeah, trying to make a cinematic universe out of the King books would be God damn impossible. It is way too complex for film adaptation. Most of the connections, (albeit the Dark Tower realms) are somewhat minor. It just wouldn't work. I'm happy they are making more King adaptations, but I hope they treat it more of an anthology, and not have them connect. Maybe connecting them from a tonal and thematic standpoint would be okay, but actual tie ins would be too much.

The 1989 version of this movie was special, and is EXTREMELY underrated. Fred Gwynn WAS Jud Crandall, and how about Andrew Hubatsek as Zelda? That character still haunts me to this day. From the acting, to the score (composed by Elliot Goldenthal, who went on to win an Oscar for Frida), or even the script, which was written by Stephen King himself, it was absolutely terrifying. It didn't need to be remade.

I disagree Jonathan; with all due respect to your opinion, King's script, and the talents of the people involved in the movie's production, having read the book in one sitting the day it hit the book stores, the film was (and remains) so vastly inferior to the source material that, in my opinion, it should never have been released in the first place, let alone remade.

The moment we meet the returned gage in the book all the pieces are in place. The look of a little kid who was killed by an 18 wheeler, buried, dug up, reburied and emerged from the Micmac ground. Gravelly voice to match along with demonic qualities, profane speech, “knows things”, can speak in another’s voice, all the most terrifying elements of an undead malevolent spirit. What did we get with the movie? A toddler with a latex scar with a toddler giggle, trying to scrunch up his toddler face to look scary (looked like he was pooping imo) and wobbles around with a scalpel and says “now I wanna play with youuuu” in that same old baby toddler gage voice. If that’s how you pull off the most evil moment in the story, it’s high time to set the record straight. Bring on the new one.

two things I hope they include from the book that they did not include in the original movie: a) those windigo scenes. They're beyond scary and they should include this monster in the movie, come on! When he carries Gage to the burial ground and something huge passes next to him through the trees, the wails, the 'loons', the glowing sickly yellow eyes.The image of Lewis at the end with white hair and almost hypnotized to go bury his wife. It needs to be there. Also b) more Timmy Baterman. Especially that scene where grown Jud and his buddies go see him and he's a shell of his former self, creepily looking at a blood-red sunset with glassy dead eyes and giving them a beyond creepy smile. That's all I want. The book is better.

I'm just glad I found someone in the comment section that knows the book. Don't forget Lewis's dream about all the people standing with their dead and the Wendigo standing behind. The book is so much better. I was disappointed with the 2017 IT film. I'm kinda worried about this film. All the scenes with the kids wearing masks. Yes it's kinda creepy but, it never happened in the book.
@gabriellecote1361
@gabriellecote1361 5 лет назад
I agree. I also doubted why they have the masked kids but someone somewhere said that it was probably a burial procession when Jud was a kid. I'd forgive that a lot more. Although, I doubt the neighbourhood kids knew the power or the burial ground. Jud only found out about it because of some French Canadian dude, and the town experienced some reanimated things like a bull and such, but I doubt it was explicitly known by every kid. @@turok8ui
@turok8ui
@turok8ui 5 лет назад
@@gabriellecote1361 There's no doubts in the book. Jud himself says that only a few people could've told him about the power. His father knew but, "he had never been there". My other problem with the masked children is that their being seen in Lewis's home. I hope they don't show kids from Jud's time running around like the house is haunted. The only Ghost that comes in that home is Victor Pascow.

Bubble Wrap to be fair they just moved in, and in the novel pet sematarys events occur nearly immediately after, so I wouldn’t imagine they’d be able to make a fence before church died, and after church died I’d be more concerned about the mythical graveyard of resurrection bringing my dead cat back to life than making a fence
@bubblewrap7357
@bubblewrap7357 5 лет назад
ImAPurpleChicken Ok, but the sequence didn’t happen right after they moved in. The whole point of the pet semetary is because all these pets get hit by the cars on the road. A fence or fence(s) definitely could’ve prevent this. Also, fence would defiantly be put up in two days lol Just a flaw he never considered I guess but they gotta have their stories somehow.

Bubble Wrap the pet sematary isn’t the resurrecting burial ground, it’s a cemetery that the kids made for their pets, the resurrecting cemetery is the mikmaq burial grounds located past a deadfall and through a swamp away from the pet sematary, and throughout the novel it’s suggested the wendigo is what manipulated so many pets to run into the road to die, as some people would be naturally curious and cross to see the actual Native American grounds

I learned a long time ago to not even watch the movie adaptations of books that I really enjoy. I'm not an expert on Stephen King or anything (I've read maybe 8 or 9 of his books) but I think the biggest problem with the screen adaptations of his books is that King is such a descriptive writer and he uses this uncanny ability to create such in depth and rich characters that it is impossible to duplicate with simple imagery and dialogue. The way he can create such heartpounding thrilling scenes through descriptive writing is hard to translate into a 20 second movie scene.

As time is something you have a lot to spent nothing better than read...our imagination is free to go anywhere and Mr. King does really knows how to captivate and immerse us in his novels.

This doesn't strike me aa having the creep factor the 89 version had. Watching it even now gives you an unsettling feeling that not many horror movies can evoke. Zelda in particular always makes the hair on the back of my neck shoot up.

I haven't read the book, but my first thought on hearing Lithgow's lines is that he probably wanted to avoid comparison to the very famous accent from the original film. It's like if you do a cover of an Elvis song...if you try to sound like Elvis, you'll just sound like a silly and worse version of Elvis. You have to do it a different way, or people will just think you're creating an inferior knockoff. Lithgow's take might not be as popular as the original one, but at least it's his take.
@wayniac917
@wayniac917 5 лет назад
There's so many differences in the trailer alone, I can't imagine how many more will be in the movie. Besides the lines being changed and the lack of accent the kids didn't fear the pet semetary since they didn't know the ground beyond it brought the dead back to life. They actually tended to it. Only a few towns people knew. I'll probably wait until it comes on tv before I see it.
