Please note: I am no longer a fan of this food and don't buy it or feed it to the cats. The issue that I have with it is the fact that it includes sunflower oil in the ingredients. We are now avoiding all vegetable/seed oils.

My cat was having loose stools and I had no idea what was causing the problem. I changed the food and the health issue stopped almost immediately. I discovered that the dry food I was feeding before had potassium chloride. So please be aware that this may be why your pet has been having health issues.

As a college student on a limited budget, I am so glad I discovered the wholehearted brand! I adopted my first kitten in August. I started out feeding him Iams, but he ended up having sensitivity to grains. Been feeding my kitten wholehearted wet and dry food for a month now and he’s doing fantastic!

You can- Ah, you said GOOD food. Yeah, those jumbo cans of Friskies aren’t great, but I used to give it to a family of ferals at my old place. The two kittens are still with me three years later, eating much better.

Years ago I read a book by a veterinarian whose view was that any canned cat food was healthier than feeding dry food. Because of the higher protein and moisture content. Cats won't necessarily drink enough water to keep them healthy on their own. It's great that you always add lots of water to their food. Thanks for this information on healthy canned food.

Every time I try different canned foods, my four cats will sniff it and then walk away. I've given my local shelter several cases of canned cat food over the years.I hate to go there as I always want to bring some more cats home! 😺😸🐱🐈

@@CantankerousDave Mine too. The last canned food I tried smelled like human quality chicken soup.I thought "We've got a winner here!" Wrong! The only thing three of my cats love is less than a 1/2 teaspoon of tuna in water per morning. Lily, my picky black cat only sometimes eats four crunchy kitty treats. None of them are in danger of starving.

The local pet shelters are always needing pet foods and glad of all donations. Whilst I've been trying to find foods my cats like I have donated plenty of cat food and some I gave to a friend who has a cat who will eat anything. I have an older cat with only 5 teeth and a fussy eater with allergies finding food they like has taken time. The biggest tip I can give you is to only buy the smaller bags of dry food or enough meat for a meal till you know what they like and resist adopting another cat. Good luck finding food your cats like. Love, cuddles and kisses for your cats.

@@donna-louisecave154 My cats have the choice of two grain free dry foods at all times. I always keep their bowls full and they are free to eat any time they wish. I love my cats!

@@patmarcy1210 I always have dry food out for the cats or Oska gets upset it is due to her being a former feral she needs to know there will be another meal. It also means Cleo can eat whenever she wants being a small cat she eats little and often.

Thank you, Lady Feral! This is really helpful to me. Satch is diabetic & his vet has been selling me a 'prescription' food which is really more costly than I can comfortably afford. However, now that you are enlightening me about feline nutrition, I feel that I can do as well for him at a better price. It is worth looking at pet suppliers online for food. Most do prescription foods cheaper than the vets or look at what foods they sell, some brands only sell via online stores and can be healthier and better for the cat than prescription food. Most cats refuse to eat prescription foods so your only option then is the healthier cat foods or making your own foods. Good luck finding food your cat likes, love, cuddles and kisses for your cat.

I discovered this brand a few months ago at Petco. My indoor and outdoor kitties aren't crazy about it but will still eat it. It cost way less than the Merrick or Wellness I also buy them. The only ones they'll eat are the Chicken pate one.

Next time I go to Petco I will look for this and see especially my boy cat will eat it. Most likely my stray rescued girl will eat it if not then I know the ferals I feed will eat it. I have tried so many grain free better food with my boy cat and he just sniffs and walks away and will only eat fancy feast chicken wet food but I really would love for my cats to eat better ingredients grain free wet food. They eat Halo grain free dry food.

I know the larger cans are a better value but in my experience my cats may not eat food that has been refrigerated. So I have to choose the kind my cats will eat all of if I put all of it in their bowls when buying the large cans. If I am not sure about that then I get the 3 Oz cans and feed smaller portions at a time.

Yes, cats don’t like refrigerated food. I make sure to leave it out on the counter for awhile to warm up to room temp. Or I add some warm water to it or warmed up broth.

Kitty was on blue wilderness (wet) then I read all the articles about starches (such as potato) along with all BB recalls. Moved her to Primal freeze-dried for a month. Now she’s frozen Primal along with Vital Essential treats. I remember seeing Whole Hearted at Petco. It’s their own brand. The price was great, but couldn’t get down with some of the ingredients. Do your cats ever get sick from so much fluctuation in their diet? I’m glad to see so much rotation being fed.

They only eat canned food once or twice a week or a small amount as a treat. They’ve only gotten sick when they eat too much or too fast and that’s usually their raw food.

Thank you for this review of different cat foods that are healthier. The healthier foods always costs a bit more but worth trying if you can. Sometimes the more expensive foods are not the healthiest so check the labels. Some of us with fussy eaters do regularly have to try new food just to find something they will eat. My Oska only has 5 teeth left so soft foods are better for her or very small dry food which she will swallow whole. Cleo is a very fussy eater and has food allergies so the right foods are important for her. Finding a good online pet supplier has been useful for me as the foods I found they love I can't buy in the shops but is a good price and healthy. Most are only available in the uk. Cleo is now happy and her weight is now stable as she is not vomiting due to something in the food upsetting her stomach. Cleo does enjoy dry food better than wet food but eats wet food if stealing it out of Oska's bowl but leaves her food. Oska eats the food out Cleo's bowl. Oska despite lacking teeth loves the dry food I get and so far there has only been furballs to clean up twice in the last month rather than most days. Watching how LF still tries new foods with the cats inspired me to do what I could to find the best foods for my cats. My cats eat better than me at times but I love them. Love, cuddles and kisses or hello for all the cats.

I believe they changed the recipe on a lot of these. I found out about it on catfooddb and I saw they removed them from the site. I looked at the nutrition info, and it seems like they have made them cheaper now unfortunately

I always stir in additional water before I give it to the cats. It’s much better when the food is dense because I’m paying for a full can of food and not a can that’s part food and part water.
