Pete comes across as a gentleman I met him in Liverpool a few years ago and he is a lovely person it’s a shame but these things happen not just music industry but all walks of life Pete has not been forgotten he will allways be included in the Beatles history at least he can say to him self I was in the band when I talk to fans Pete often gets mentioned for very good reasons a lovely interview 🙏
Pete has a very distinctive speaking style, if you watch a few of his interviews (which are all of him telling basically the same story in the same words). If he had remained a Beatle, there would probably be many Pete Best imitators now.
Another distinctive thing on his speech is his thicker Scouse accent, compared to the other Beatles. He was the only one who from North Liverpool, and that is why he had a stronger accent, in contrast to the other Beatles, that come from South Liverpool.
@@finckel2682 Paul McCartney was Born in Walton and lived there until 1955 Last time i checked, Walton was definitely in North Liverpool ?............................ Doooh
Pete Best was not a good drummer. Pete was a mediocre drummer at best. Ringo Star was a talented drummer and artist without a doubt. Beatles would not have skyrocketed to the top without the musical creativity of Ringo Star.
Well if he'd have been good enough he'd have formed a new band and had success with them. But he got a million pounds or whatever from the anthology, made money from this event, got his own band now, is happily married after nearly 60 years with kids and grandkids. John was shot dead, George died prematurely of Cancer. He can walk down the street and can go about his business and not be get mobbed. So his not done too badly if you think.
John said they were always going to drop Pete because he was a lousy drummer but none of them gave any clue that they were going to drop him it was only when George Martin wasn't happy with what he was doing in the studio that they went with Ringo. It's hard to imagine The Beatles without Ringo he was totally in tune with the others and he brought his own thing to the party. Pete was more of a throwback to the 50's and what drummers of that time were doing. Ringo was a bit more progressive and the Beatles were all about progression so I can get the change but Pete's a nice guy and a good drummer.
"It's lovely for people to turn round and say that. I'm not going to turn round and say it wasn't one of the reasons..." In Pete Best's world, people always "turn round" before speaking.🙄
I don't think it's true. He used to be a civil servant for decades, then he got decent royalties for Anthology-1. That's was the main source of his income.
@@Nikitas1978 I said he makes "an" income as a musician. Everybody knows he worked as a civil servant. You can have a full time job and also be a part time musician where you can also earn "an" income.. A second income. . Everyone knows he got money from the Anthology.. My point is that sadly, he is such an unlucky person to be sacked from the greatest band ever. He will always be known as the poor quality drummer that the Beatles sacked.... However I still quite like the guy.
@@PeterStrachanMusic thanks for the clarification. Still don't think that Pete had too much money from these interviews. I, however, always been wondering why he let this become a shaping factor of all his further life. Why didn't he get a good college education, become a professional or entrepreneur... perhaps move to the States and turn the page on his beatlejuice past. Instead he stuck in this Liverpool with his controlling mommy. At least he got his money and some publicity...
@@Nikitas1978 I get my information from the net like most people. After he was sacked and the Beatles went on to worldwide fame, Pete suffered severe depression and it is claimed that he was suicidal.. I don't know why he stayed.. Maybe because of his friends and family.. There was nowhere he could go to hide from the Beatles astonishing fame. I am not an expert on Pete Best but I still believe it must have been pure hell to be in his position at the time. Glad he got through it as he comes across as a nice guy....
@@PeterStrachanMusic He made a motza out of the Anthology series 5 years after this, becoming a millionaire. Not just an income, but setting himself up for an early retirement.
Many years ago I saw an interview with Harrison and he was asked a question. "Why didn't Pete get the Beatle hair cut" GH responded. "You will have to ask him, he just refused to do that and other things"
Well, if George said that, then he's full of crap. Pete was never asked to get the haircut because Astrid (Stu's girlfriend who initially got Stu to get it) told them that it wouldn't work on Pete because his hair was too thick and wavy. There's an audio clip of her on RU-vid saying this exact thing.
@@Cosmo-Kramerlet's be honest all four Beatles talked crap about Pete, especially John Lennon. The fans lap it up worse than Scientologists lap up the shit written by L. Ron Hubbard
Imagine going through your life with every asking you the same questions, and be known for missing the boat. I'm ok with firing him if Ringo was a much better drummer, but the rest of the Beatles should have been more honest with him, and keep the friendship going.
Right. Like, make sure he gets paid for his work, gets credit for being an early beatle, and also maybe invite him to parties or events or places where the beatle's were with other people, because the was a part of the history. Regardless, most of us are not part of the beatle's history, but Pete hopefully understands that he is undoubtedly part of the Beatle's legendary history.
If anyone has the TV-AM episode from early 1990 featuring the band Indian Summer, please upload! I only joined this band in 2012, but back in 1990 they were promoting their single 'Just Like Lovers' which came out on Carrere Records in Europe and was a hit there (not so much in the UK). TV-AM interviewed them and played the video clip.
PETE BEST GREAT DRUMMER AND KICK ASS SOLID DRUMMER WITHOUT PETE THE BEATLES WOULD NEVER HAVE GONE TO GERMANY.....HE MADE THE BEATLES... LOVE PETE🥁🥁🥁🥁💖💖💕❤
@@alicegrant3731 nice to see a lot of fans here who know the score. Restores my faith in humanity a bit. Unlike the a*holes who constantly drivel nonsense
Wasn’t just a personal decision. According to George Martin they could do whatever on stage but he wanted a session drummer for the tracks !! Plain and simple !! John Lennon said we couldn’t get a gig without a drummer !! Choice was made and can’t go back. Who knows if they keep Pete do the Beatles stardom blast off ??
Look Pete Best is a great drummer and all round good guy. Sadly he's as dull as dishwater and his personality didn't fit with the others. That was why he was given the push. History has proved the right decision was made.
@ Daz Auto...I agree with you...he is dull ,and his personality didn't fit in with the Lads simple !.... but he's gone on about it for over 50 years...it's become boring...and he's made a lot of money out of it too....What he didn't say is that it was Paul who sorted for him to be paid for his part in the Anthology...so he gained from that too...
Pete Best: Is part of a great story. We all must walk this walk of life. It's not how you start the race it where you end up. And there only one place to be happy and that in the Kingdom of our Redeemer the CHRIST the Messiah. our LORD.
In spite of Pete's drumming talent, or lack of it, I just can't help but feel bad for Pete. I mean, getting fired from the most iconic, legendary bands of all time in history just as that band was on the cusp of their international fame and fortune. It's not like he got fired from a band that would go on to have a few years of huge success only to fade into obscurity. He got fired from THE BEATLES, for crying out loud. A band that whose name, music, fame, and fandom that still lives on, even decades after it broke up. Pete eventually went on to a 20 year career as a civil servant, helping unemployed people find jobs. I know how many times he's said he's perfectly fine and happy with how things turned out for him. But still, I can't help but think there just had to be a few times when he'd be sitting in his civil service office, filling out paperwork, dealing with the daily drudgery of his 9-5 job, and think about The Beatles. How much more money they're pulling in than him (I would think they earned more in one day than Pete earned in a lot of years). How much fame they have/had. How they're living in the lap of luxury while he's struggling to pay the rent and put food on the table for his family. If I were in Pete's shoes back then, I know that's what I'd be thinking about.
But The Beatles weren't famous at the time he got fired. Who knew what was around the corner? It just so happens that they got famous with Ringo in the band. With Pete Best in the band, they might never have become famous. Tiny details can alter the course of history. It's like that film Sliding Doors.
@HonkyReduction-b2g yeah, I know the Beatles weren't famous at the time he got fired. They were popular locally, but not yet REALLY famous, the international sensation they were soon to become. That's the thing. They fired him just when they were on the cusp of being famous. It bothered Pete at the time. He spent a couple of years struggling with them. And just when they were to grab "the golden apple" (as he put it), he's the one who gets shown the door. And then he watches from afar as they take off to fame and fortune only a couple months after his firing. He was so close to being a part of that.
@@lowbridge7070 I appreciate what you are saying and thanks for taking the time. You said that "they were on the cusp of being famous". But is that really true? As I've said, one tiny detail could alter the course of history. With Pete Best, they might never have made it big. One turn of events leads to another. Who knows. Maybe with Pete Best, they might've all died in car crash while driving to a gig. None of them knew they were going to be that big. To all of them, in 1962, they were just a beat group. None of them had a clue that a rock group could be that big. And it was all because of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Each one of them made up the DNA that is The Beatles that we know and love. Even with Ringo on drums, when Love Me Do was released in October 1962, it wasn't a hit. It got to No. 17. Pete Shotton, Colin Hanton and Eric Griffiths. Do these names ring a bell? I don't see any of them being disgruntled. But this guy Pete Best just wont' let it go after all these years. It's like as if he feels The Beatles owe him his career, which they don't because band members go in and out. Besides, he was a lousy drummer. And even now, there's videos of him playing and he hasn't improved. He should've taken drumming lessons if he really wanted to be a respected musician.
@HonkyReduction-b2g Very, very true they didn't know that they were going to be successful and famous, let alone on the high level they did, at the time of Pete's firing. And yeah, they probably wouldn't become famous if they had kept Pete. I don't buy Pete's theories as to why they fired him. He won't admit he wasn't that good of a drummer. His replacement, Ringo, was much better. Still, whether or not they (including Pete) knew they were going to become massively famous and successful, I still can't help but feel sorry for Pete. Imagine, you're a member of a band. You and the others really don't know whether or not you're all going to become successful. But after being a member of this band for a couple of years, they fire you and replace you. Then in only a couple of months after they fired you, that very band becomes a huge international sensation. I could be wrong, but if I recall correctly, Pete was so distraught over it, he actually attempted suicide. I just can't help but feel for Pete. Imagine having been in his shoes back then.
Hi, I have the montage of Beatles clips that were shown before the interview. Is that what you are referring to? I may not be able to upload that for copyright reasons though.
Nice bloke. But the truth is he was not a good drummer. Couldnt keep the beat. Timing was way off at times. Every producer said his drumming wasnt good enough for recording. He must of known this. Sorry.
To be successful you have to be kinda ruthless I suppose. It was pretty chicken of The Beatles to not tell Pete Best to his face about their issues with him and of course his dismissal from the band. It's a damn shame that Paul and Ringo couldn't get together and do some cuts with Best.... Best seems to have remained grounded and realistic AND accepting about what has happened to him. Paul McCartney is a musical genius...no question. But I think he's an arsehole for not catching up with Best at some point..
Her name is Maya Even she hosted the 6 till 7 version of tv-am's Good Morning Britain from april 1990. I think that was when Maya Even took over from Richard Keys. She hosted the 6 till 7 version till april 1992. and also Maya Even also hosted Good Morning Britain with mike morris covering for Lorraine Kelly when Lorraine is away from april 1990 till the end of the summer 1991 .Richard keys did stay at tv-am till the end of december 1990 or toward the end. if anyone has got footage of Maya Even and Richard keys on tv-am in 1990. one other thing is that maya did go on to host the money programme and house to house
@@wormsnake1 i was too young at the time to know who she was , but i found out who she was by watching old video clips of maya at tv-am, and she is 64 years old now which is the same age as my mum and dad
Look let's face it Pete wasn't good enough!!! They all can't be wrong ? John Paul George . George Martin , abbey road engineers and the list goes on !!!, just listen to him play ? He played the same double cymbal hit after every fill and as John said they got him to try and ply a steady 4/4 beat and that's all he did in every song. Could you imagine what Ticket to ride or come together would have sounded like with Pete on drums? A 4/4 beat with a double cymbal hit would have ruined them songs
Calling those records mentioned the "greatest of all time" are grossly inflated over-glorifications. Much ado about nothing. There are so many songs and artist that are leaps and bounds better than the Beatles ever were. I'll grant that Paul McCartney was a great songwriter and his BEST work was done after he left the Beatles, but there were a lot of GREAT GREAT songwriters in the 70s. To try and call the Beatles stuff the greatest is 100% ridiculous. Not even close.
@@Cosmo-Kramer You're the putz, because you got the quote wrong. He said "what delay industries? Nah, you're way, way, way off." If you can't get it right, you can't hang with the big boys.
