Special thanks to the Maravich Family and John Lotz. Brought to you by the book: Pete Maravich - The Authorized Biography of Pistol Pete www.MaravichBook.com This video was shot just eight months before Pete Maravich's untimely death.
This video is very important to me. My father gave his life to Christ that night in Columbia. He went because Pistol Pete was going to speak. It's been almost 40 years since that night, and this is the first time I have heard his testimony from that night. Thank you for posting this!
This video was filmed on April 28, 1987 and Pete died on January 5, 1988. Thanks for posting this because through this video we get to see where Pete stood spiritually at the end of his life.
Every time I listen to this, I cry. Not out of sadness, but of pure joy. To see someone hurt so much and then accept Christ and do away with pride once and for all. I love his testimony.
Only somebody with the Spirit of God in him speaks the way Pete did here. He was and is living testimony to the Power that comes through Faith in Jesus who is the Christ. Praise God in heaven for what He has done. I love how Pete is quoted as saying, "I want to be remembered as a Christian, a person that serves Him to the utmost, not as a basketball player." Amen and amen!
just finished reading the "Pete Maravich - The Authorized Biography of Pistol Pete" book. i never saw him play live but thanks to the NBA archives, his greatness as a basketball player but i admire him more now because of his faith in Jesus Christ! All glory to God!
He was not only a great player but a truly religious man and a rest speaker who had so much faith in God.God is with you Pete you are probably playing a choose up game with The almighty.
I'm 21 years old. I used to hate religion and God. In my country, believing in God is seen as something bad. But ever since I found the Lord about 2 years ago my life is so much better. Just like Pete, it was at night laying in bed. Religion misunderstood is awful but like Maravich said, "there's nothing like the joy of Jesus Christ in your life"
Remember, he also said (and accurately so) that religion put Jesus on that cross. It's not religion, my friend, but a personal relationship with God the Father, through Jesus Christ, by His grace, through our faith in what He did for us on that cross.
Christianity being a religion is a lie from the devil. It's not religion. No where in the Bible does it say it is. It's the truth. It's a spiritual thing. It's a relationship with God. Christian means a follower of Christ. There are plenty of fake Christian's who are religious though. They have made false doctrines and religion out of the things of God just like the Pharisees. But in essence Christianity is not religion. I also hate religion. But the devil has confused people to make them think Christianity is one, with all the fake Christian's he's produced.
@Nelson's Rudolph that's the only time religion is used in a good way and it says that perfect religion is taking care of orphans and widows and staying unspotted from the world. But it never says Christianity is a religion in the Bible. And the term Christian means a follower of Christ. Many people that call themselves a Christian do not follow Christ so they aren't really a Christian.
Roger is wrong. Islam has killed the most people. Catholicism is 2nd (Catholicism pretends to be part of Christianity) Christianity has the most imitators. Mormonism and its over 12 sects. Jehovah Witnesses, Catholicism, Unverislists, Unitarians and more. Logic says you don't fake a fake. Counterfeiters don't make monopoly money. They fake real money.
This video here could of just changed my life. I have never been more inspired and overall happy to know that my number one role model had the grace of God come over him in the most troubling times. I love you God.
Very encouraging brother. Jesus is SO patient with us. He could have let us die in our sin and unbelief. Praise God for His Mercy and how He loves us in spite of our sin
Fantastic testimony. One day when I close my eyes for the last time, I pray that the Lord have mercy on my soul and accept me into the kingdom of heaven. Pistol Pete was one of the best ever at the game of basketball.
@@gleanerman2195 We are New Testament people who believe in Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. If you want REAL LIFE, Jesus is the only way to it.
Inspirational. That brought tears to my eyes. The Pistol is not just my hero as a basketball player, he also is my hero as a true person who found what we all should strive for, Jesus.
Pete was interviewed by Larry King and gave Larry a beautiful Bible. He gave a testimony and talked from his heart. Later, Larry said that Pete was the real deal. He respected Pete, not a phony.
I think that is the most wonderful and inspirational testimony for Christ's saving power I've ever heard! Miss him and Billy Graham. But we still have God's Word!
One of the most powerful testimonies I've heard. Never heard of an athlete who was truly the best of his day and won all the trophies and get the highest contract of his time in sports, and admit to rejecting Jesus many times, to turn around say how it all left him empty and God visited him in his room and changed everything. And then stand on a Billy Graham Crusade platform and say that I wouldn't trade a thousand championships or Hall of fame rings for The Glory of Jesus Christ in my life. Well said Pete, to God alone be the Glory for the grace by which He saved you!
Pete was very influential when I was 11/ 12 years old in one way and is very inspirational still now that I am 64 years old. In this time of coronavirus 19 many people are digging deep for meanings to alot of things. I know I am as I am dealing with physical and mental health issues. RIP Pete and Dear Lord please give me strength. God help us all! 🙏🏀 Sincerely Jeff Marvel
I never new this bloke until tonight and I am not particularly a basketball fan. What I can say is he has inspired me and I know that Jesus Christ who I have been talking with so much of late had me listen to Mr Pistol Pete. After first watching his NBA achievements and various interviews I was knocked over by this amazing speech which was screaming out to me. There is some Pistol Pete in all of us who search for meaning. A thousand MBA rings and hall of fame awards can never be swapped for a chance to walk with Christ. I am hearing you Pete god bless thank you for reinforcing what I know and fail to practice and rest you soul.
I was Blessed to see the Pistol play at the agg pavillion at LSU .He is the best I've ever seen. The passes he could make Are legendary sloppy socks and Flying hair. His college scoring will never be topped & there was no 3 pt. Shoot. Bless you Mister Pete Marivich for spreading the word of Christ from your Heart and Soul. Thank you for being such an inspiration to us all. 🙏
Pete was the greatest basketball player of all time bar none great testimony About our saviour Jesus Christ can you imagine if he played today palming the ball it would be something
Wow, to think Maravich found Christ soon before his death. He dodged a bullet because he died one year later at the age of 40. Maybe he sensed the end was near and turned to the Lord. I am having the same sense where I feel the end may be near and I'm a born again Christian.
Pete said he never believed in anything ,, except for the GAME ,.. for the longest time,..he practiced wacky meditations , yoga,..but then he found CHRIST ,... AND at the very end,, "after" his amazing basketball days were gone,.. 'THATS" THE REAL VICTORY !!
If you do, don't wait a moment longer to start your new life in Jesus Christ. Remember, this prayer is not a magical formula. You are simply expressing your heart to God. Pray this with us: "Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen." Prayer of Salvation - I've Prayed It; Now What? If you've prayed this prayer of salvation with true conviction and heart, you are now a follower of Jesus. This is a fact, whether or not you feel any different. Religious systems may have led you to believe that you should feel something - a warm glow, a tingle, or some other mystical experience. The fact is, you may, or you may not. If you have prayed the prayer of salvation and meant it, you are now a follower of Jesus. The Bible tells us that your eternal salvation is secure! "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Welcome to the family of God! We encourage you now to find a local church where you can be baptized and grow in the knowledge of God through His Word, the Bible. www.allaboutgod.com
No one says for Jordan best African player of all times, or Larry Bird best British player of all times. Pete Maravich was born and raised in USA, played whole carrier there, was baptised at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta and died in USA. He is american. Nothing Serbian about him - only the origins (like Jordan's are in Africa and Bird's in UK).
Pete maravich said Jesus spoke to him audibly . rise they own heart. Pete knew he was going soon and he wanted to help the rest of us realize that this life is temporary . that our future is in the next life our perminant home. We are all going to die and that we will be judged. That if we are not close to Christ and not strive to be like Christ, than we have not learned our reason for being here in this short life. For God is love. Pete put Christ ahead of anything.
Pete played on just one artery ,..a whole amazing NBA career ,.. The Lord sustained this genius just long enough ,..to teach us all,..that being the Greatest just means choosing Christ,..not being the Greatest at things,..
there are those classy Christians like Kobe who never mention their faith ,..or Gretzky ,..but Pete "Had to" ,.The Lord "Knew" his time was coming soon,.. the way he died with that weird heart thing,..they only discovered later at the autopsy ,.. Pete changed many of us out here !!!
Now this, THIS is what a Christian athlete TRULY looks like. People said even as big of a player as he was, from then on, all he would talk about is Jesus Christ. HALLELUJAH!!!
"By Grace you are saved, thru faith, and this is not of yourselves but is a Gift of God, not of Works, lest any man boast!" Ephesian 2:8-9 Grace is unmerited favor. Just like Pete said "you can't earn Heaven". The Gift of Heaven and Eternal life is only received by faith. Jesus did all the work and paid a horrible death for All our sins and rose the third day for our sins. We are born again when we trust that He did that for us. Amen!
I guess you didn't understand his message. He was tired of talking about hoops, he wanted to talk about Jesus. Heaven doesn't have basketball, those that enter will be praising The King of Kings for eternity and thankful they can.
See the change? When he was little both him and his dad worship basketball as their god. They both turned the passion for basketball to the love and ever lasting life of Jesus Christ. All glory and power is yours now and forever.
This testimony was heart-touching and tells a great deal about life itself, that striving for something without god will ultimately fail, but with Jesus there is a peace of mind, and your future is set. I hope people examine their life after watching this before bashing others.
What an amazing testimony from a man who was truly changed by the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. I've never heard anyone, but Pistol Pete, say "peer pressure is 'simply' a choice," "money will pay your fare to everywhere, but Heaven" and "in the name of religion Jesus Christ was placed upon that Cross."
