pete sampras you're my number 1 player always!!! i remember you at the aussie open match against courier. i was on the court and i will never forget that match. that night you showed everyone you are emotional and gentle human being
Ruti, one of the great Sampras's nicknames was "Sweet Pete", because he was such a nice guy. I don't think the public knew him much, because he was quiet, and wasn't an attention seeker, but if you followed him, like I did, it wasn't hard to find out that he was a very genuine person, product of a loving and close knit family.
who else misses watching Pete jump in the air and slamming the ball with effortless and flawless precision? (the tennis equivalent to a Michael Jordan dunk)?
@Rare Tennis when your tennis is so nearly perfect, I suppose it may look boring to someone who doesn't appreciate the skill and talent involved, of a player who didn't make a spectacle of himself on court to be "entertaining", just played beautifully.
The facts are there and they are indisputable. All the same, the fact remains that different eras are incomparable and such things as GOAT are nonsense. If somebody wants to consider Fabrice Santoro as their *personal* favourite of all time, it is his or her right - and no amount of statistics will change that. Got the point, Shirley?
people will remember novak djokovic for not getting all out of his talent. he is an arrogant bastard who acts like he has 10 slams. i questions his resolve and his dedication. i dont know of any 20 year old who retires from matches more than him. he also admitted he was worn out and lost focus, are u joking, you are 20 years old??? he doesnt have the will to win like nadal, agassi, sampras and federer. i hope i am wrong, but i dont think so.
novak djokovic is nothing the history won't remember him ..... not like agassi sampras rafa federer mcenroe lendl etc djokovic has only 1 gs and 1 ms that is nothing!!! guga has a lot more and nobody says a word about him
Graham Bensinger behaves so gay in this interview! What a slimy grin all the time! He thinks that in this way he could get some explicit information about Pete Sampras. But I tell you brother: no way!
Roger has had 291+ weeks at world number 1 whereas Pete had 286 Roger has 17 Majors whereas Pete has 14 Roger won the Career Grand Slam whereas Pete never even made the final of the French Roger beat Sampras at Wimbledon Pete himself has said Federer is the GOAT. I think Sampras is brilliant but there comes a time when you hae to accept the facts.
All valid points. But having seen them both play many times I think Pete at his best would beat Roger at his best. Its meaningless I know but thats what I think.
Till the advent of Nadal in 2005, Fed had no competition at all. When Rafa and Djoko appeared, Fed's GS title haul practically came to a halt, for some yrs. Sampras faced off against other GS title holders, like Agassi, Becker, Chang, Courier, Edberg, Lendl,Rafter, Ivanisevic, Kuerten. Fed, pre Rafa and Djkoer? Not in the same league. That's why he's known as the weak era champion. How many GS titles did he win, after Nadal and Djoko got to their peak?
Sampras had 6 consecutive year end no.1 ranking, which I believe is still the record. He also ended his career much earlier than Federer, so we don't know how much more he could have achieved.
