When Morbid came to Long Island in the late ‘80s early ‘90s, Pete was standing next to me in the audience. I asked him if he wanted to smoke. He thanked me but said no because he can’t smoke before he goes on stage. It was a rejection I’ll never forget!
I was Pete's drumtech for Formulas and Gateways tours.. this is very he didn't smoke before or during.. he would though roll me 2 joints to blow into the fan during certain times of the set so he could smell weed while he played.. He would have taken up your offer after the show... remember his words "before he goes on".. and Pete always made time to hang with fans after he showered.
For everyone's info, this was video was taken AFTER Pete's surgery, he still is not recovered, and cant play 100% again yet, so people criticizing him on this video can suck it! Watch the drum cam footage of him playing "Dominate" or listen to "Drum Check" he could blow most drummers out of the water. Also, most death metal drummers are influenced by him!!!!
I regularly try to play along to songs off Formulas. His grooves are unique and often impossible for me to recreate. I have an easier time slopping my way through Cryptopsy songs than I do old Morbid Angel tunes.
His unique technique is that he plays a double stroke-- he is getting two hits from the double stroke on one down stroke…. That’s what makes him so fast!!!!😊
When playing drums you need to be relaxed to be faster ! if your tense your body will lock up! It's pretty difficult but the really good drummers always are!
Apex lols @ all the kiddies saying he sucks. This is what a real extreme metal drummer sounds like. Without him, you'd have none of today's 260+bpm guys. Get schooled.
born in 1990 Oswego, NY. Played in bands all around upstate and through a following of our friends some on lowly record deals and other with large local following. Grew up around music I'm a bassist father was a drummer. I can tell you that the metal community has IN PART (IN P A R T) have been reduced to mathcore non melodic (although sometimes briefly too support rhythm) and not one shit talker could lay these licks on site. If one could the ratio would be like 80-1. Damn you tube comments are harsh!
Most Brutal death metal Blast beats wouldn’t exist without Pete, and Especially formulas fatal to the flesh… that album is a bible of Death metal Mastery
What I love about Pete is that he has such a sharp, loose style. Likely my favorite metal drummer to listen to. He knows exactly what should go where and how his kit should sound.
You may have misunderstood the reason for this video, Pete is actually doing overdubs for the movie "Tap Dance Extreme" released in 2011 where a boy from middle America dreams of making it big at the Tap Dance World Championships and inadvertently invents "thrash tap". Worth watching if you can find it.
I love watching him play. He makes me laugh. In a good way because he does these really funny beats and this drum kit here sounds funny. I admire his technical skill as well of course.
I turned 20 on this day and it was the same year I met my father and turned him into a metalhead. Gonna send him this video now. Hailz from Indiana, Pete!!!🤘
Morbid wouldn't exist without Pete. But, in an extensive display of talent, I don't think this guy knows what a paradiddle is let alone any other 101 rudiments
oh man, this is a great thing to see. Take your time man, having you back 4 months later at 100% is infinitely better than NOW at 90% with you getting hurt again in 2 months.
@@BeeBeeCJr read further. That’s what David Vincent said. Sandoval stated that he quit because of his back surgery recovery taking much longer than expected.
@@joshireson5457 He literally states he never went back to MA because he doesn’t “miss any of that” so there is no denying him converting to religion affected his musical output and drive for it. Sucks.
indeed. too bad trey and pete doesnt work together anymore. these both are like siblings, one on guitar and the other one on drums. their style matches so fucking perfectly. its a shame he quit morbid angel
El Mejor baterista de todos los tiempos ,así nomas,...una pena que Morbid Angel hallan terminados todos peleados.... pero bue....quedaron los hermosos insuperables discos de los '90s....ahí va.
Age is just a number. The guys of cannibal corpse are in their 40s and they are still going strong. Hell the guys of iron maiden are in their 50s and they still kick ass i know they are a different kind of metal band but they are still great.
that opening tom roll part is amazing to me! so creative and fresh. you never hear any drummers out there doing that AND, those triggers sound bad ass. sorry all you haters but this is great
father of the blast beat!! please recover soon!! and take back your throne! and try and stop Dave Vincent and his madness!! bring back Morbid Angel \m/
I'm riding to the farm. Got a whole room with all the band instruments. Ampeg,line6/Marshall, mikes and a wicked ass drumset with Pearl Eliminator pedals and a piccolo snare +satellite radio a gallon on wine and weed. I'm ready to do my drum homework after watching the Master. MA the best Death band of all-time Barr NONE!
@lapidated The head is regular Evans Hydraulic Black. Probably theres clothes inside the snare (as there's visibly in the toms) and of course the strings are off.
@bparkhunting Dude just came out of surgery and is playing on a practice kit. The fact he can do as well as he can does nothing but make him more impressive.
He looks more like Trey in this video, LOL. Maybe they're secretly brothers. Good to see him doing his thing. Hope he gets back behind the kit for Morbid soon
LMAO with the "Ok, para!" ("Ok, stop!") at the end of the video hahaha. Reminds me of the "Ok Pete. Now, can I just hear your kickdrum, please?" at the end of "Drum Check" xD
Man, this guy is probably the best three limb metal drummer out there. I mean this as a complement honestly (he doesn't use is left foot much) I like his structured clean tight fills. He would be a beast if he implemented his left foot a LOT more.
@soundbeans yah dude i was disapointed when i heard a couple of track in the album..but still it is a thumbs up for me..dave sings with passion though and with yeung in the line up this is still gonna be the album of the year for me..it shows how pioneers make music in a genius way which makes us fans hard to understand.
