I've been watching TPS from the very beginning. Coincidentally being a fellow Canadian I have been following Pete's career from the very beginning. I've been waiting for this moment and it's actually happening. My worlds are colliding and I'm loving it 🤯
I still havent forgiven myself for missing a Pete Thorn gig 10 miles from my front door the other week. I just didnt know about it until his video when it was over 😅😮💨
@@davidyoung8875 if it's so boring why are you hear watching it? or are you just being a keyboard warrior and hating from your bedroom. Talk about being bored 😂
@@davidyoung8875 You get back what you give out in life. If you give negativity, the world will give negativity back. You’ve got to be the change 👍🏻 have a good weekend mate.
As a nod to the Classic Rock Show the audio quality is the best of any gig I have ever been to. Saw them a couple of weeks ago and Pete's tone was incredible. I was barely 20 feet from his amp and it was a real joy to hear.
The thing about Pete’s gear reviews is that he shows us how this gear could be genuinely useful , musically, In an arrangement. He’s a great musician who happened to choose guitar. He could have chosen piano and fallen in love with jazz. It almost doesn’t matter what he chose. He hears music, in a very complete way.
His explanations are always useful. He has a video on using a compressor, and it's the ONLY one I've ever watched where the effects he was getting were a) audible and b) understandable.
Just finished watching, and that was a masterclass in how to be a genuine, grounded , awesome guy who knows what he talks about and can convey it in the most awesome way. Thank you 👍
Caught the show last year in Yeovil. It was everything you said it is. My non musician wife came away impressed with the vibe, yup, that’s praise indeed. Catch ya next year 😎🎶🎵👍
After watching many of these pedals shows, I just got the best piece of advice about headspace and nervousness/self conscious. I am the type that I can become very accomplished in practice but then get nervous when playing in front of people. Moving the shift towards how do I want the people to feel/enjoy the music in a selfless way, never knew why I didn’t think about that
Man, oh, man. This is a show among shows. Did I mention how wonderful he is as a person! What a guy! You two aren't so bad yourselves! Lot's of love here in the TPS multiverse (which is not a multiFX unit!).
That 107dB at the end of the riff around 16:30ish was killer....reminds me why I needed to move further back in the audience after some time. Nothing like being up close in a rock show though! Unfortunately, I say - "huh, what was that?" increasingly often since those youthful days...thanks for sharing today Pete...keep shining.
Thanks for making me figure out how to spell *Deeflexx* panels! There was a brief mention around the 8:00 mark, and it took a few web searches to find it. 🙂
Been waiting for this one. Saw Pete with The Classic Rock Show in January, and seeing them again next month. Great player, and honestly him and James (Cole) really seem to play off each other brilliantly. Great pairing for that show.
Same! I don’t think I ever knew that he was Canadian… until that same exact point in the video. And then I was like, “Hmmm, I didn’t know he was Canadian?”
Pete is great. Seen him the past 3 years with CRS and its the best and most professional show that you will get to see. Pete gives you all a REAL Masterclass!
Love you guys!this episode is fantastic absolutely love Pete Thorn ! Been a massive fan since I saw him on tour with Chris Cornell in 2007 and several times again after that!
I love listening to Pete Thorn, both his words and his music. He is a very thoughtful and creative person - he fits right in with the both of you. Cheers, and happy weekend!
Pete is a true Legend!! Stellar musician and fantastic demoer and obvoiusly overall great Dude! thanks for hurting yourself for joy of us your audience. Hope your fingers will recover soon and well ! Love the new Signature PT Guitar !
Another great episode gents! Pete is not only a great guitarist and a fellow Canadian but the nicest guy...someone you want to be friends with hang out!
If you like Pete’s advice around mental space when playing, you would love the book Zen Guitar. It’s an incredible book that I have read multiple times but I learn something new every time. Highly recommended
Thanks Pete, Mick and Dan, good show! As it turned out the directors-cut was to the finger, ouch! What a hero, glue-up and all, he did wait a bit before grabbing the neck again, sticky guitar-necks suck.... Cheers!
A travelling, gigging musician having a Digitech Freqout as a permanent fixture on their pedal board says a lot. Only a consummate professional, crowd pleasing, rock and roller would get past "that's a fun effect for five minutes" before turfing it off for another OD or fuzz. You're getting the feedback regardless of what volume I'm playing at or what I'm playing through!
Superglue was invented to make sights for rifles in the 40s, but it was never adopted for that purpose, but it certainly was used for wounds in Vietnam and it saved a lot of lifes.
Props to everyone in that band. My friend plays keys in Jessies Girl here in the states and man a live those 80s marathon tribute acts that tour put in some serious work on n off stage. Those are tough gigs
I'm beginning to learn to allow anything to stimulate a condensing of creative response - whether musical, literary, or visual. Hearing someone talk about how they think causes me to express a clarification on my own take on that thought. That initial stimulation may lead me down an adjacent path (tangent). I find myself writing out thoughts I didn't now I had. This is the same way I've always created musical ideas. Repeatedly not allowing myself to forget them requires that I engage in explorations of arrangement. A guitar instrument from 40 years ago is all still there (& more) but is NOT the same.
Ah great to see Pete on the Show , Hired Gun Guitarists like Pete are some of the World's best Guitar Players and most Knowledgeable Guys about this Craft .
I use the same approach (preparation) as I discovered after joining the work sponsored bowling tournament. I used it again in another work sponsored golf tournament. Concentrate on on the current throw or swing. Don't look a any scores (especially yours - but even all others). Each requires quality of concentration of all senses - in real time. I prepare for a solo by concentrating on the song and my contribution to the rhythm, comp, melody and harmony. When it's my turn to solo I simply become the band and carry the tune through in all its facets as I hear/feel is happening at that moment. whether I bring it back to the band, as anticipated, or am asked to extend, the level of concentration remains. No room exists for stage fright or planning - only responding to the delivery of the song.
40:39 I’ve always toured with a tube of superglue in my bag. I’ve used it on split fingers, repaired callouses and fingernails, along with repairing any cuts that might otherwise have needed a few stitches. And after all, that’s what it was designed for. It was widely (perhaps originally?), used in military hospitals, during the Viet Nam war, as a means of expediting the repair of wounds, or as a result of surgery. And (fwiw), I’ve found Loctite to be the best of those commonly available. All the best, and take care of those digits.
The Classic Rock Show is awesome !! Some songs they play even better than on the record. Too bad this amazing band is playing in the UK only. Would love to see you guys an European tour, or even the States. This band absolutely deserves a spot on a big stage !! And now Pete has joined the band, it’s even better 👊🏻 if you ever wanna learn Eruption, Pete Thorn has made the best tutorial ever !! After watching these tutorials on Eruption, I got free beer and phone numbers at my own gigs after playing the song 😎😆
@@ThatPedalShow ah! right, loved it - it was stunning. hope it isn't too expensive or I'll be having an interesting conversation with my wife about the food budget for March 😂
If you have problems with your fingers Pete, try Kiehi’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. It’s great stuff to help the UK’s horrible weather. Don’t use it to close to the show.
I played guitar well before I ever got laid so technically, I guess like… Getting laid and guitar playing has gone Hand in Hand ever since… the 80’s or whatever I can’t separate the two
People forget how much of Jazz was 'Standards' that so many bands played. I know it is apples to oranges, but do you think that some of those songs would have lived as long if they asked a young Charlie Parker to play them on a piccolo because his saxophone was 'too loud for the venue'?
OMG that's my lunchbreak sorted then. That Suhr..... I'm plotting about 3 guitar sales to pay for one. I've said so many times, if I had to spec my dream guitar, that would be it, right down to the Alnico 2 magnet in the humbucker.
"Don't suck now!" 😂😂 So funny... beyond being a great pro guitar player and a fine musician, he's a cool and down to earth guy, how can one dislike him?
Great TPS with the great Pete Thorn! Awesome, thanks! (And actually guys like you make people listen more great music, so RU-vid and music industry should be grateful about that…) 😅
I have a FreqOut in storage back in New Zealand, another form of unobtainium for me indeed. I had thought to buy another one but learned a few weeks ago that Samsung had bought DOD/DigiTech back in 2018, followed by the engineering team being fired and in 2022 the brand and IP was purchased by South Korean Cortek (makers of Cort guitars). Absent that engineering team it seems unlikely any new "DigiTech" pedals will be produced, and while there's still a DigiTech web site I don't know if they're actually still manufacturing those older designs, maybe it's all new-old stock.
Pete's exactly right - if you wanna play guitar for your living and work hard, you'll do it. After that, it's all down to timing and luck as to what that looks like. Almost none of my favorite players hit the jackpot by 25. EVH would've been the first to tell you that there were more amazing players that were never famous. He said he would've been pumping gas if they hadn't gotten the right breaks. Everyone's probably much better off doing it as a hobby, truth be told...
Great video! I'm a fellow Canadian and long-time fan of Pete... 29:20 is as profound & useful as 6:20 is painful & concerning 😉 (I have tinnitus and a word to the wise: take care of your equipment [i.e. cochlea], gang)
