Looking at this, I want to go back and tell 18 year old me that 36 years are about to pass by in a flash.

Can I go back to this date as a 27 year old and ask Neena Blackwood out? Probably not.

@@bloodyscalp94 I watch a lot of stuff like this. REM is secretly my favorite band, and they were the epitome of a whole thing I wanted very badly to do in the 80s and 90s, and seeing this footage does weird things to my insides.

My brother was a booking agent (Southern Rock acts) at Paragon in the late 70s and worked w/ Ian Copeland. He was surprised when I told him I had heard a great new band in Athens (where I was in school) when he realized that the 2 Paragon office boys were on bass and drums. He even had demos which REM had sent back to Macon. I got those tapes from him, and they were my prized possessions, until they were stolen from me. Ughhhrrr. Great days.

REM and The Police were linked through the Copeland Bros. Miles founded I.R.S., REM's first record label. Ian (RIP) as Mike said, ignited a fire under Bill and himself and Stewart of course excelled with The Police who were on A&M Records. A&M distributed I.R.S. releases through 1985. Always loved Bucks open shirt sleeves.

How old are you? They played music constantly back then, broke bands... it was vital back then. It became shit later. Reality TV killed it.

Peter Buck hated opening for The Police. "I'd rather play for 10 people that showed up to see us than 10,000 people that showed up to see someone else." He was just being polite here.

Tapes were stolen while I was living in London. Probably could have bought copies within days at the Camden Market. I actually saw REM in London that year. They were there recording Fables & performed at a fairly large venue. I was used to seeing them around ATH & ATL in clubs (or outdoors), so it was strange to see them in this bigger setting. It was a sell out, so they had already formed a following in the UK. Ironically, it was while @ that show that my flat was burgled & the tapes stolen.
