I read in Craig Ferguson's auto biography how cool Peter was back in The Dream Boys days and how kind he was to Craig when he was down on his luck long after they were no longer band mates. I love Peter as the Dr.
Peter is such an amazing person. I'm so glad he's our Doctor. He's so well spoken too; you can just sense so much compassion and grattitude when he talks. King, though, holy moly. Always thought he was a terrible interviewer when he had his CNN show and I see he hasn't gotten any better. "The show's never been bigger in America" "Tell us about Doctor Who because we don't know it here in America". "The show's been on for over 50 years" "There's been different writers?" "Are you Scottish?" Come on Larry!
Yes. King is such a Dork. Sorry about that. But then this country seems to be seriously considering electing Trump. Which makes me feel like I dropped some very bad acid.
looking at this interview his character "the doctor " is very similar yet at the same time distant to the actor himself. it proves how good of an actor he is.
I love Peter so much. I was definitely excited, and even a bit impatient to watch the 11th Doctor regenerate so I could finally see Peter, but I never thought I'd love 12 as much as I do. He has surpassed Chris' performance in Series 1 making him the definitive Doctor of the revival series until the end of time (in my heart at least). That said, I also agree Larry did an abysmal job interviewing him. It was more of an interrogation, and his obvious lack of research is beyond atrocious.
Ya know, I love all the Doctors in NewWho (except Jodie), but Peter Capaldi stood out for me. A great actor and a warm human being. Very soft-spoken, and so sexy in a reserved way.
Is it just me or is it every time that Peter Capaldi gets interviewed they always end up talking about his old band The Dream Boys? I also have listened to some of their songs, and they’re not bad!
This is SUCH A HARD interview to sit through, King is grumpy, senile, and outta touch now...don't get me wrong, I used to love him, but this interview proves he should back out. Peter Capaldi is so uncomfortable and on his heels and he shouldn't be, he's there for doctor who, not as a member of parliament.
Peter lead this interview so well, this Larry guy basically sits there like a dead thing in the corner asking questions written for him that he doesn't even care about, well done Peter!
The person who sent that script in the past to young Peter, didn't realize what a great thing they did for Doctor Who! Imagine a world in which Peter decided to become a professional musician or something else, imagine a world without the Twelfth Doctor! (I mean, someone else would have became Twelve, you know what I mean...)
When he said his favorite year was 1963, if I was interviewing I would have this crazy smile on my face and then i'll high five Peter. Not just ignore it like King.
I always thought that Larry should just stick to interviewing politicians, because that way, the entire show is boring, rather than the interviewee being the most exciting thing about the show and you force yourself to stick around based solely on who is being interviewed. Sadly, it seems Peter has gotten the "Collins treatment" as I've called it. King did the exact same type of interview to Misha Collins way back when. Basically, he was rude and harsh on the sci-fi and fantasy drama, as well as the fandom, and occasionally the actor himself. He doesn't do near enough research to be excusable. Peter and Misha are both great personalities that are very beloved, and King simply doesn't give a crap because it's "not important" to him. Peter got so excited at points where he just wanted to talk about the show, because he is still a passionate fan of it. And King just shoots him down and moves on to the next poorly-executed question. There are just such wasted opportunities to listen to Peter essentially fanboy over certain things and give explanations of things we want to hear, all because King is just bad at interviewing. Peter deserves much better than King when it comes to interviews.
So much respect for Peter not taking the opportunity to pontificate on his personal politics (beyond his support of the BBC). Also, an excellent comparison to Star Trek. Star Trek frequently dealt with societal issues, but Doctor Who looks at it from the individual's point of view.
Peter is a wonderful actor lovely person and he loves Dr who, and playing the part. I would love to see some of his Art. One thing I like about him He loves his wife and Daughter and shout out to the world to hear, I think that is beautiful to hear. I'm glad he did this show with Larry got to know Peter better.
My Like is for Peter Capaldi, NOT for Larry King. Capaldi is so gracious and entertaining, knows when he has to "perform" to some extent as it is expected of him, and when he can just be sincere, he deserves so much better than this terrible interviewer
I adore Doctor Who and Peter is really brilliant in the roll. He showed a lot of grace during Larry's pretty awful interviewing skills. There were some good questions thrown in by fans, but I'm disappointed that Mr. King didn't do his homework about what Doctor Who is really about or very much about Perter Capaldi, either He didn't do either one justice.
"Was that in the age of the Stones and Duran Duran?" Since when were The Rolling Stones and Duran Duran contemporaries?!!! The Stones may have had a few hits in the early 80s, but their "age" was the 60s/ early 70s.
What a pleasure it would be to sit down with this man and just enjoy getting to know him!!! Just recently have started watching Doctor Who and have just fallen in love with David tennant and Peter capaldi!! Pretty much have binge watched videos of both these guys and they are just a joy!!!
this was actually a really good interview. some people say larry king was a pushy interviewer and he didn't know peter - but it was a good introduction to him for american viewers who may not know him. he got some great stuff out of peter
ah, what a thoughtful, incidentally sexy man. i'd probably live for him also, i don't think larry king actually listened here. like, he has some acknowledgement toward people with prestige in Hollywood, but he treated Peter as if he were some British nobody - as if he were any better! look at larry king, what is he? okay, to be fair though he was born in 1933.... he may not look it for the dyed hair, so I judged him unfairly perhaps. I don't think an 82 year old (at the time of the interview) has to know every actor. He's older than Anthony Hopkins... How is that possible...
A better title for this program would be "Larry King, NO!" As usual, Larry has clearly done no research whatsoever. He actually prides himself on not doing homework because he believes it makes for a better chat. His towering ego doesn't allow him to see what the rest of us see: an out of touch, smug old geezer conducting a second-rate interview. The Doctor can indeed act; you'd never guess he'd just as soon belt Larry in the mouth and go home.
I haven't seen much of Larry King, so I don't know if he's usually like this..but he does manage to make the initial part of the interview- especially the parts where they talk about the show- really awkward. However, once they begin chatting about Craig, the BBC and other stuff, you can see him warming up to Peter. I mean Peter is just such a charming personality anyway. He's so adorable when he talks about his wife and his process of acting by drawing and connecting to images. I think by the end Peter does manage to command respect and attention from Larry King.
I felt offended as a Whovian, I was very upset by the way mr. King lead the interview. He showed no interet whatsoever, but Peter made it clear. He is a decent man. A humble person. And so I will forgive mr. King's ingnorance because it's Peter the one who in a very smart and humble way shows to the public what an ass-hole King is.
+Nena Báez Larry is like this with everyone. He interviews people from so many different genres which he has no interest in and does not really care, he is there to interview and to like a genre.
I love what he said about Maisy. Think, I felt the great chemistry between the both in the "Achildr" and "Me" episodes. Wished she would have benn his companion, not Clara. And hoped, if there had to be a femal doktor, she would get the role.
Wow, I can see why King's been such a fixture on American television for so long, he REALLY puts in the research doesn't he? "Are you Scottish?" What a lazy old man.
Can someone help me? When Larry asked him about music, what did Capaldi say? The Killers, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra and...? English is not my first language btw. I can't understand very well.
Fantastic interview by Capaldi I definitely agree about Star Trek not being as intimate and substanceful as Doctor Who. I'm really not a big fan of Star Trek to be honest. But yeah King showing that good old 'Murican ignorance with that fucking "are you Scottish?" question. Are you serious Larry? Really? It shows two things, one, he's lazy and doesn't research his guests, you only have to Wiki Peter to see that he's Glaswegian. Two, Americans have no ability to distinguish different British accents. Also, the reason most older Americans don't talk about British politics is most likely because they watch a lot of Fox News, CNN and "old media" which only ever discusses.........American politics.
Wowzas, larry's gettin' old....I remember thirty years ago when he was 60...good god he's old and he's making this interview painful, he knows nothing and cares nothing about the show and it's obvious...he should've stayed retired. "That's Maise Williams from game of thrones, do you watch game of thrones?" "(Grumpy voice) Yeah...I watch game of thrones...we'll be back after this and I'll ask him about punk rock...meh..." OH GOD!!! This is so painful! In what world were The Stones and Duran Duran in the same music era?!
Not doing research is the first and biggest, worst mistake ever but look, you can at least recognise the accent? I believe Scottish accent is quite an obviously distinctive accent from we you can hear in the UK, actually not just UK, but accents from all over planet Earth. Donald Trump as president isn't that "surprising" after all, seems to be the best America has ever got.
No I love Peter, I thought he was very gracious and kind. Larry just made it terrible. I would think if you were going to interview someone, you could at least get a little background on whoever it was. Larry just gave me the impression that he didn't really care about the interview and it was disappointing.
well, he wasn't wrong was he? about what the tories think of and wanted to do to the bbc.. and people are being stupid enough to fall in line and help them destroy it sad
Peter capaldi is a great doctor I think he will be better in series 10 though he needs better lines he is a great actor and a great doctor but he needs better lines!
There was no controversy over Missy, and there wouldn't have been controversy over the female Doctor had it happened in place of Smith or Capaldi's tenure. In fact it was the writing that came with Capaldi that turned me off the show. I love Capaldi.
+Jennifer Graham He is both, as you go back to the 60s, 70s and see he is called Doctor Who. The term "the doctor" can be more attributed to Russell T Davies re-boot in 2005.
+Peregrine Note: when dealing with the media, Peter (and many others associated with the show past and present) use the "Doctor Who" moniker as it is just easier, especially for those unfamiliar with the show.
Ugh, Larry King did a terrible job at the interview. He is very unprepared and by his tone it seems like he doesn't give a shit but has to read some questions from list to sit the interview through and collect his paycheck. When it comes to this you should just retire!
