Poor Peter, he must’ve been so regretful. The Bible explains that after his denial, “he wept bitterly”. (Matthew 26:75). But God is so good, Jesus knew how Peter felt so gave him a chance to redeem himself after his resurrection by asking him the question “do you love me?” three times! (John 21:15-17). Jesus gave Peter an opportunity to extinguish his remorse by replacing the three denials with three truths. He really is a loving God.
@@blockscraft1224 that is very true. Really, we are no different than Peter. Many of us indirectly deny Jesus everyday (Titus 1:16), and yet His faithfulness never ceases! Remember during your hard time not to doubt God’s love for you. He is with you and He cares for you, and there is nothing He cannot do. I will pray for you!
I’ll tell you one thing, the fact that they made Peter’s upside down crucifixion into a symbol of unworthiness is degrading and insulting towards his memory. I’ve even seen a picture of a church with an upside down cross on the top. Nobody wants to be remembered that way, especially someone who got to meet Jesus and became a disciple of him.
@@arcticangel1628 The upside down cross to me is the sign of Peter’s commitment to the Lord. His only request at death was to not be killed like Christ. The upside down cross is a man denying himself as is written in scripture.
As a Christian, I sometimes ask myself, in Peter's situation, would I have denied Him too? Of course you'd like to think you wouldn't have, but Peter thought he never would either. You never know sometimes what you would do unless confronted with a situation.
In the gospels, Peter was under *far* less pressure, making his betrayal even more reprehensible. In the movie, Peter denies Jesus because the mob is ready to tear him limb from limb as well. In the Bible, Peter denies Jesus because he was uncomfortable.
@@Emper0rH0rde i didn't know that, will have to go back and read that part. But that makes it even more amazing Jesus forgave him. Even Judas could have been forgiven had he actually repented and not gone off and hanged himself.
@Thomas Breen yes, but it is important to remember Judas made a choice. He was not a man doomed by fate like some believe. God simply knew what he would do and used him as an example. But He never doomed Judas to be the one.
Its the same as Adam and Eve, we all like to think if we had been in their place, we would've done things differently, but the truth if any of us would have sinned.
Even today, Peter still lives in every of us. Many people still deny their friends, their loved ones when those go through hard times. Now more than never.
I can feel the pain ...it hurts just to imagine this happening...I am suffering from a stroke and my wife cheats on me , she denied that I lived there with her ... And now I know what God has gone through
@@eduardoperalta4849 That is a heartbreaking situation 😔 I just want you to know that Jesus has a special place for you in heaven. Only those who have gone through heartbreak and betrayal themselves, are able to truly help others going through the same thing. I'm realizing this year that God uses his people's sufferings to prepare us for a higher position. Those who are lowly and serve others are the greatest in God's kingdom. So if you can use your story to help others, you'll have an even bigger and better reward than if you'd never gone through it at all. ❤
I remember seeing this in theaters. Sitting behind me were some teenagers. At first they were loud disrespectful and making jokes. 30 minutes in they were completely silent and then at the end they were in tears.
I'm not saying this isn't true, but to me, it's hard to believe a group of teenagers would go see this movie and be "loud and disrespectful and making jokes" in the first place. On its face it sounds fake; it doesn't fit even remotely the character of anyone who would go see this movie in the theaters.
@@tomben6180 Actually, Christ was fulfilling His on word...when He said "whosoever confesses Me before men, him I will confess before My Father and all His angels..." And as Caiapas had charged Him under oath (I command you in the name of the living God to tell us whether you be the Christ, the Son of God) before men to testify of His heavenly Father....and He Jesus would not hesitate or try to hide the truth of His relationship with the Father, no matter what it cost Him to say it....
Peter’s story is amazing. We can all say “Jesus we will always follow you not matter what”. But will we? Will we stand up to cultural norms that are clearly sins. A lot of us have failed.
That's why Peter is one of my favourite people to study in the Bible. His conversion testimony was very inspiring, and his dramatic change from denying to professing Christ gives us hope as believers that Jesus can truly change even the most wretched. Praise God 🙏❤️
The most heartbreaking part is when Peter realizes he denied Jesus three times proving that Jesus really was the messiah and knew what he would do, still Jesus forgave him.
Except that wasn't really the moment that was proof that Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus revealed himself to be that, long before that moment, to Peter, the other disciples, and the woman at the well.
2:18 The way they did this is powerful. Peter denied Jesus, even as he watched Jesus being thrown to the wolves and did nothing to stop it. It really brings home how much of a personal betrayal it was. Like a trusted friend who completely deserts you in the moment of your greatest need.
"Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered." (Matthew 26:31) Agreed, it's so powerful... It really helps us to visualise and relate to Peter's circumstance when we may often stumble by denying the Lord ourselves through our own words or actions. Just like Peter, we reflect on the times which we felt so passionate for Him; and after we stumble, we grieve with our hearts absolutely broken. What an amazing scene this is...

For each of the classes represented by the Pharisee and the publican there is a lesson in the history of the apostle Peter. In his early discipleship Peter thought himself strong. Like the Pharisee, in his own estimation he was “not as other men are.” When Christ on the eve of His betrayal forewarned His disciples, “All ye shall be offended because of Me this night,” Peter confidently declared, “Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.” Mark 14:27, 29. Peter did not know his own danger. Self-confidence misled him. He thought himself able to withstand temptation; but in a few short hours the test came, and with cursing and swearing he denied his Lord. When the crowing of the cock reminded him of the words of Christ, surprised and shocked at what he had just done he turned and looked at his Master. At that moment Christ looked at Peter, and beneath that grieved look, in which compassion and love for him were blended, Peter understood himself. He went out and wept bitterly. That look of Christ's broke his heart. Peter had come to the turning point, and bitterly did he repent his sin. He was like the publican in his contrition and repentance, and like the publican he found mercy. The look of Christ assured him of pardon.
Despite his serious sin, let us not forget what put Peter into that position in the first place: his concern and love for Jesus. He was there because of his love for him

1:07 What a powerful and upsetting scene... Jesus weeps as His people reject their God and Saviour. His people whom He greatly loved and cherished, whom He personally delivered from slavery and oppression. His wife with whom He had made a marriage covenant. His holy nation whom He established through His grace, in blessing them with the Truth, and forbearing mercies... Everything that both the Lord and Israel had gone through together, was ultimately rejected and God Himself refused. Jesus' heart broke, and was grieved as they began to beat Him... Yet, in His magnificent mercy He did not retaliate with His divine power, but He allowed them. So that the Scripture may be fulfilled; “He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)
Jesus did not have a wife!!! Please don't believe it! People are going around saying that he had a wife but it's not true. He is the One, True, Living God. Please please please don't say that statement again.
There's still hope for Israel. The Bible talks about a great awakening coming where Israel will truly see Jesus for who he is. They'll repent and mourn for their long years of unbelief. When that happens, it will be very close to the end. Paul talks about that in this verse: "For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?" Romans 11:15
@@the.seagull.35 "For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, but one inwardly...." Romans 2. You conveniently forgot that the very name ISRAEL is a name God gave to those who are over-comers by FAITH (as when Jacob had overcome his test of faith after the night of wrestling with Christ, the Angel of the Covenant, and He changed Jacob's name from Jacob-deceiver, supplanter, to Israel "a overcoming prince", an echo of His own name/character, as He said "if My people, who are called by My name"--), not by mere fleshly descent. Thus, the word ISRAEL applies, as it has always done throughout the whole bible history, to God's true church who follow His commandments. There has always been an Israel of the flesh and an Israel of the spirit. That's why Paul said, "they are not all Jews who say they are Jews". And in the Salutation at the end of the letter to the Galatian church, he addresses the whole church as the 'Israel of God". Jesus said the same in John 8: "IF you WERE Abraham's children then you would do the works of Abraham...but now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you nothing but truth. This did not Abraham." That's why Paul calls present day Jerusalem "in bondage with her children, but the Jerusalem which is above (the city of God, the New Jerusalem in heaven) is free, which is the mother of us all." Galatians 4.

The point isn't that he predicted what Peter would do -- or even to make us question what we would do in that situation. The point is that He understood the struggle of man's heart to be righteous. That even the purest among us will do something that others perceive as unforgiveable. He is beside us when we fall, and waits with patience and love for us to stand back up.
@@themanstan0785it's not but it definitely is framed that way here. It makes it seem Jesus wanted to call Peter's bluff, but the reality is he made him bluff. If Peter hadn't denied him, Jesus would've been wrong about him and that can't be right he's literally Jesus Christ, he can't be wrong. The implication of free will is lost here when he specifically tells Peter what he's going to do and when he's going to do it. And if we're getting techinal with it, Peter almost seems like he's snapping out of a trance and not really realizing what he's done rather regaining consciousness after losing control.

I never looked at Peter as wrong for doing this. The regret and shame is worse than any pain he would’ve gone through physically. Especially if he were rejected into heaven. We all act like we wouldn’t have done this but you never know until you’re in that exact situation.
Until this day I see Peter in myself and he is in many Christians. Despite are will to be strong we don’t deny ourselves. Instead when Peter was humbled and realized he could nothing on his own that is when God made him bold.
I love how Mary tried to console Peter but Peter wouldn’t have it because he was unworthy to be in front of her for denying Jesus. At least that is how I saw that scene.
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. Luke 15:17-24 🙏
Amidst all the exquisite pain of this scene - the sweetness of Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted, is beautiful to watch. Even as She suffers through the nightmare of her Son's passion, she reaches out to comfort Peter.
Her Motherly love is so powerful. No one is built as pure of a mother as her. Oh blessed Mother Mary please intercede and pray for us, help us open our hearts to the Holy Spirit.
Both God and Jesus know us so well that even when we stumble they forgive us and God knows us so well that he even knows what we want to do to please him.
The first time I watched Passion I was preparing myself for the torture/crucifixion scenes bc I knew that they’d be the hardest to watch, but this scene completely broke me. The quickness of Peter’s response, like it’s almost instinctual to deny Jesus, and then the shame and the sorrow that strikes him, it was too much to bear, especially as someone who’s identified with Peter for a long time.
Peter's entire reality imploded form one gaze from God in His weakened human form!😳 Now imagine our Lord giving him that same look in His glorified from! 😫🤯😱😖😭🙏
Consider this scripture... "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (John 17:21). If Jesus was saying in that scripture that he and his Father are in union and then proceeds to pray that his followers "also may be one in us", then that would insinuate that he's praying for his followers to also be on that same level of power as he and his Father is. However Psalms 83:18 says "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth." Additionally, consider John 17:6, Jesus says "I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word". Jesus is telling his Father that he has "manifested thy name unto the men"... this means that Jesus has made his Father's name known to those he preached to. Many Bible translations have removed the name of Jehovah where it appeared some 7000+ times in the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures. The name of Jehovah will be sanctified throughout the entire inhabited earth before the end comes (Matthew 6:9). If you would like to know more Bible truths and how we can render whole souled worship to Jehovah, please feel free to ask.
Peter denied Christ out of real fear of being accused and handed over, perhaps to torture or death. I only wish that I could say that I have denied Christ for those reasons. I have denied him for fear of being picked on at school as a boy, I have denied him for fear of being ostracized at work, such sad, pathetic little reasons for denying someone who gave so much for me. Yes, I know HE has forgiven me but the sadness is real. Peter went from a frightened man to one of the early leaders of the faith and is a wonderful example to me.
This movie has been the MOST impactful movie of the depiction of JESUS. I remember walking to the movie theatre with my family and people buying popcorn at the interval - I bet no believers would have gone to buy.
How dare them eat food during the interval. They must not be real Christians! Seriously what a ridiculous statement. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Hey we're all sinners. But I have to say, going to get popcorn during the movie is not as bad of a sin as judging people for buying popcorn. It reminds me of the story about the disciples picking heads of grain on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees using it as an excuse to condemn Jesus and his disciples. "If you had known what these words meant, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent."
I just love Peter he is so imperfect, so rash, cant make up his mind! Too eager yet too reluctant. I can understand that. And the Lord chose him as a friend and leader so maybe there is hope for me.
This broke my heart as it did to Peter as well . I know I’m just writing a comment, but I deeply believe I would of lost my life , defending him . But as his followers, we couldn’t, so the scripture would be true. How anyone can not feel the love and freedom this beautiful man ( father / spirit) has given us , is hard for me to understand. I respect everyone and all others choices…..but I just love Christ so much . He’s our king 👑
To be fair to Peter, we have the Holy Spirit and he didn't 🙂 and we also know in hindsight that Christ was not only killed, but he rose from the dead. Once Peter saw that. There would be no stopping him or the Twelve for the rest of their lives.
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, And the first born among the dead.- Colossians 1:9-15
Well Jesus certainly is full of love, but the Bible tells us at 1 John 4:8 that "God is love". The name of God can be found at Psalm 83:18... His name is Jehovah, he is the most high over all the earth and he sent his only begotten son Jesus to die for our sins.

hey dude Jesus loves you. You should go somewhere today and talk to Him, by yourself. Nature is a good place to do that for me. Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him. Huge passage incoming haha Romans 3:10-27 [10] As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; [11] no one understands; no one seeks for God. [12] All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” [13] “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” [14] “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” [15] “Their feet are swift to shed blood; [16] in their paths are ruin and misery, [17] and the way of peace they have not known.” [18] “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” [19] Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. [20] For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. [21] But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- [22] the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. [25] God put him forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. [26] It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. [27] Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

This is why Peter jumped from the boat and swam/ran to Christ on the shore. No words were exchanged initially, but this moment surely haunted him to the death. And what an unpleasant death it was; hung on the cross, upside down. Peter loved his Lord.
When I’m on the verge of feeling irredeemable I remind myself of all the things Peter did wrong, how he literally denied Jesus even though he swore not to, was hot tempered and afraid of the storm… Jesus knows we are far from perfect yet He loves us. That’s amazing to me.
Imagine Jesus going to the cross, suffering the full wrath of God for your sins, and then taking back his sacrifice because you did something "irredeemable". ❤✝️ When you see the magnitude of the gift, the enormous value of His blood, and the literal hell Jesus endured... it really is unimaginable that we could "out-sin" God's redeeming grace in the cross of Jesus. Apart from totally renouncing Christ and choosing to permanently reject Jesus, His blood will pay it all.

Peter obviously had his low moments but let's not be too hard on him. Remember that it was Peter, and no one else, the only one among the 12 disciples, who got out of the boat to walk on water with Jesus. When the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot arrived on Sivan 6 on the Jewish calendar (approx 6 weeks after the resurrection), it was Peter who gathered the remaining disciples and a mixed Jewish population which had come from all over the Roman world. When the time came for one of the disciples to get up in front of that crowd, it was Peter who got up to speak on that day. The rest is history. The book of Acts reports that over 3000 people were saved after Peter spoke to the multitudes. According to Acts, some of these Jews were "strangers from Rome" presumably some of whom heard Peter speak and took the message back to Rome with them. This small group of fledgling Christians from Rome became the nucleus of support for the apostle Paul some 30 years later and eventually changed the entire course of Western history. There's a reason why the Pope sits on the Chair of Peter in the Vatican and wears the Ring of the Fisherman. Peter, we see you!
