Peter Falk's portrayal of Columbo was genius. He is the Sherlock Holms of the 20th century. I watched this when I was 10 years old and after 50 years it is still an incredible program. Columbo comes on various OTA TV channels and I will watch these because it is outstanding writing.
Writers suggested Lee J. Cobb and Bing Crosby for the role of Columbo. Cobb was unavailable and Crosby turned it down. Falk told Levinson and Link. "I'd kill to play that cop," Falk killed it alright, as in nailed it.
Such a great actor and down to earth man, from Ossining, New York. His Dad had a Mens clothing store there, had the treat of seeing him there visiting.
I just found out that Falk mentioning 'Steve' Steven Bochco in that acceptance speech was huge boost to his career. Bochco was a very young writer at the time and he (writer) and Spielberg (director) worked together on Murder by the Book.
My children, 23 & 28, are watching and sharing this series with their AU friends as I type. The entire series that 1st aired on USA NBC in that era was simply remarkable in it's quality. Columbo, McMillan & Wife, & McCloud. I watched it EVERY WEEK.
Of the many, many hilarious things Columbo has said or did on the show, 2 stand out the most for me: at the scene where a car that crashed through a guardrail & into a ditch, he had to go down the hill to check it out, but the hill was steeper than he thought & he lost his balance, almost falling on his face on the way down!!🤣... then, in the episode where Johnny Cash played the murderer, investingating a plane crash, the NTSB guy asked him if he'd ever flown before, & he told him "no, l'm afraid of heights; my ears pop in elevators. In fact, l don't even like bein this TALL!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Funniest thing he's eber said! Made funnier by the fact that, he WASN'T really tall!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Columbo was a legend here in the UK. Heck, he was a legend everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are aliens in other galaxies who picked up the show in the far distant reaches of the universe, who go around imitating him and saying; “There’s just one more thing ...” We love you and miss you, Peter. 🇬🇧😂
Jeremy was facing trial on multiple charges of forcible rape, however he has either gone senile, insane or is doing a reasonable job of feigning mental illness, resulting in suspension of proceedings. Possibly the result of tertiary syphilis or chronic narcotics abuse.
