I worked at a concert in 1996, it was Frampton, Foreigner, and REO Speedwagon. I had a break so I was sitting on the edge of the stage, and didn't realize Peter was about to start his soundcheck. He walked out, and a security guy told me I had to get down and leave. Peter told him no, I could stay there. I sat right in front of him on the edge of the stage while he did his soundcheck. It was incredible.

Always great to see Peter in an interview and this one is awesome. Fun story. Back around 1997 I played in a band called Killer Bee. I'm the keyboard player. We backed up Frampton at the Folkshaus in Zurich, Switzerland. We were pretty well known in that area. Had a couple of songs on the radio. When we started to play, his monitor crew decided it was time to screw up the band who had the crowd singing along. That would be us. In our monitors we'd have nothing, or just blasting kick drum, or just snare drum, or just a mess. They couldn't knock us down though. I had my own keyboard amp so they couldn't screw with that and we had all played under the worst possible conditions. We were a seasoned kick ass rock band! Too bad they tried that amateur BS. I'm pretty sure Peter Frampton had nothing to do with it.

I remember watching The Herd on tv when I was young and liked Peter Frampton's singing, I later heard a song while on a bus in London, Space Oddity, I liked the song. Later I became a David Bowie fan and discovered that he went to school with Peter Frampton. I loved Frampton Comes Alive, playing guitar along with it. Then when Bowie had Peter Frampton join him on tour I went to Luton Airport as they were to land during the early hours. Got into a security vehicle, my brother having arranged this, and was driven out to have the plane follow us back in to the stop in front of the hangers. Watched everyone come down the steps at the rear of the plane and go into customs. That was it, went into the arrivals to get a coffee and chat with my wife about this amazing night and noticed a guitar case on the floor next to a post where we were standing, it looked like a slim, headless case like the guitar Bowie used lately. Next to it, leaning against the post was Peter Frampton, wow. Stayed there listening for a time then the band had to leave. We went to say goodbye to my brother at the security gate but saw a Limo arrive at the gate, it opened and slowly it pulled out with Bowie and Coco in it, we waved, he waved and off it went. What a fantastic night.

Very interesting to hear Peter go into the custom features of his LP, especially the unusual one-off pickup arrangement 🙂! On the one setting, you can hear where that extra, roaring resonance that’s such a big part of his soloing tone comes from 😁! Listen to the solos on “Do You Feel Like We Do?”, and you’ll hear this special tone that only this particular LP has - so glad The Phoenix 🔥🦢🔥 lived up to its name and was reborn 😁❤️! Rick, this was a great “get” on your part 🥇 - Frampton is always a joy to listen to, for both his knowledge and his generally positive demeanor 🙂! Peter, you’re a walking contradiction: You’re a “humble legend” 😮 - don’t ever change, man 😎❤️😁🎸! - Steve Dinges, Mesa, Arizona, U.S.A.

@@martinaddison4880, good man. I'd always (falsely) believed he used a Vocoder toy, but indeed the effect employed by Talkbox does rather fit the bill more accurately. He just taught me so many things about why it's so damn hard for guitarists to get a tone that sounds like Peter Frampton. It's that middle pickup blend. You can clearly hear his exact "tone" in there. Very interesting.
@sdingeswho
