So Grateful that I Got to see Frampton Comes Alive at the Fabulous FORUM Live in LA back in the 70's......... Yes I'm OLD and Loving It !

In the 70’s I thought Frampton was a great guitarist but it wasn’t until I started playing guitar and studying music many decades later that I recognized he was an INCREDIBLE guitarist.

He baffled me as a young guitarist in the early '80s learning the pentatonic scale. It's like he uses it, but he's in and out of so many different jazz notes and incredible runs that make little sense to someone with a knowledge that is limited to the basics that it blew my mind.

@@sundaynightdrunk ditto. I didn’t know what modes were, so I was baffled.

I've seen him twice, and I've never seen anyone enjoy what they're doing as much as Peter. His sense of humor, and humility is very hard to find in the rock industry. His smile...his interaction with the crowd...you can tell he loved what he did and has been, as far as I've heard, one of the most gracious artists in music.

Great comment.... and somehow Peter seemed to bypass all the crappy drama of being a stupid rock star and was just a real cool one who just played for the song and audience. It's like he was saying without saying it..... "Like this".

One day years ago my ex unexpectedly announced that she had bought last minute tickets to Bowie’s Glass Spiders tour, putting us just off to the right front side of the stage. Having never seen Bowie I was happy, but knowing that Peter was the guitar player for the tour made me ecstatic… and I was not disappointed!!

Oh my you are so lucky. I’ve seen lots of great guitarists including Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Skunk Baxter and the GOAT himself, Tommy Emmanuel, but I never got to see Peter Frampton play live. I would have given anything to see him play.

@@smoorejhe is on tour now. I just saw him in August. It's called the "never say never" tour. He was just as incredible as the first time I saw him 30 years ago.

I’ll never forget , summer before 10th grade (1987) and for a few yrs before, while browsing the record stores, and seeing the album cover t-shirt in untold number of 🎉Rock mags like Hit Parader etc., I’d always see that image of Peter Frampton from FCA . Finally, I just went ahead and bought the cassette in a whim : the cover looked cool and the title of the album was cool, why not, right? Up to that point I had dived into what was “Heavy Metal” at the time (AC/DC , VH, Maiden, Priest , Ozzy, Dio etc..) , but was also appreciating the earlier Rock stuff : Zeppelin, Cream/Clapton , Allman Bros, Skynyrd, The WHO Santana, etc.. - and I liked Humble Pie (what I had heard so far) , but had no idea PF was an original member. Anyways , bought FCA , and was blown away. It was the main album I listened to that whole summer - never forget it . Loved his music ever since

He’s really a lovely guy and not often talked about as among the greatest guitarists that often but he definitely is!

I don’t know about perfection playing live but Do You Feel Like We Do from Frampton Comes Alive comes close for me. The solos were so melodic and flowing, (yes, Bob Mayo too)!

Peter is a great guitarist for younger guitarist to mimic to get down his highly melodic, slow speed, and use of Mixolydian and Dorian modes. Great entertainer. I have seen him 4-5 times.

Great music and performer! I remember watching Peter in his early days, and he was so impressive live. His energy and playing were fantastic. He was definitely a very live wire. I get that every recording or show wasn't perfect, but I'm sure he had more good or great shows than bad ones. He definitely seems more laid-back and at ease, and I guess that comes with age and experience. Keep rocking and playing your music.

It was about 20 years ago that I saw Peter at a small "in the round" venue in Phoenix (Celebrity Theatre, for those in the know). Bob Mayo was on keyboards, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Not 50 feet from the stage, and Peter was amazing.

I hate to say it, but Peter is way too hard on himself in terms of perfection. But I hope that he certainly appreciates the fact that millions of people think his music is perfect!

There is something in Peter's playing that reminds me of another favorite of mine, Frank Zappa. As with Frank, I can happily listen to Peter take a very long solo. Not only is their playing all about melody, it seems to tell a story. Almost like turning the pages in a book - they make me want to hear what happens next.

Take a moment to appreciate that Peter Frampton is holding a relic that should be in the Smithsonian American history museum because is was plucked out of a fiery crash in South America. I love that guitar!!

Some of his best playing, in my opinion, is on John Entwistle's Whistle Rymes album.

From what I've heard of his studio records, they sound quite controlled and flat, which may be due to that pursuit of perfection. This is anything but the case on Comes Alive, which allows the songs to really blossom.

I grew up listening and learning how to play guitar from Peter's records, but I agree completely - his studio albums just don't capture his genius. "Now" is maybe the exception, but his early solo records are just hard for me to listen to. I've seen Peter several times in different venues and I was always blown away - he's an amazing singer (very underrated I would say) and his guitar playing is just so unique compared to his contemporaries - he definitely has his own style that is so rich in melody and emotion. I still listen to "Comes Alive" every now and then (easily the album I've played the most in my life since '76) and I still marvel at how great it is - the guitar playing is just off the charts!

Many great live albums in that mid 70’s era but Frampton comes alive is still there as one of the greatest. J. Geils Band, Live Full House is special having been there.

Peter's studio albums were solid, but the fact that Peter is such a great guitarist for his live shows made the studio albums seem like they lacked fire and flair. It isn't a fair comparison as it isn't' for many fantastic live bands.

Okay let me humbly correct Peter on this one thing..... every note and tone played on "Do You Feel Like We Do" was perfect. Sorry Peter, I have standing as a fellow guitar player and someone who shared the same front of house engineer with you Oris Henry. Just me humbly saying. No dispute allowed. No wiggle room......... lolololo......

Check out "Breaking All the Rules" from 81. With a cliché: a seriously underrated album. Strong songs, good rock production and as a bonus Porcaro and Lukather participate. Rolling Stones magazine gave the record a rating of 1 out of 5. Can you think of a better motivation to actually listen to the record?

So sad he was diagnosed with IBM (inclusion body myositis, a rare and incurable inflammatory condition which causes muscles to weaken slowly.) He has a great attitude about it all despite knowing he will lose his ability to play eventually. God speed Peter! 🎸❤️
