This song means a lot to me. As a child, I used to take my mom's makeup mirror (it was about 8 inches across) & look down into it. Then I would walk through the house, hold the mirror slightly out in front of me, and it would look like I was walking on the ceiling!! So, the concept and lyrics of this tune, especially Peter's explanation of it in the beginning, really holds a little special meaning for me....the innocence and creativity of childhood... LOVE you, Mr.Gabriel!!
Who else could possibly even think about writing a song like this, let alone conceive presenting it such a manner. Peter Gabriel stands alone, surrounded by an awesome collection of musicians. Magnificent! Beyond comparison.
I am hoping, when I leave this world, to have Peter Gabriel and his beautiful daughter Melanie playing in my ears and in my head...it is all I can ask...what a way to go...
Melaine's voice is a perfect match , she puts her heart in it. frequently this song comes back to me. I listen and watch it as it is like I watched the first time.
I’m still not sure why OVO never got the recognition it deserved. Admittedly I was confused by some of the messaging, but some of the tracks on this album like “Low Light” are some of the most beautiful & aria like sounds, arguably Gabriel has ever produced.
Great song, great staging, great performance. I love the intro, too, very trippy/mystical/altered consciousness, but stated in that very grounded, matter-of-fact way.
I looked up at the tallest building. Felt it falling down. I could feel my balance shifting. Everything was moving around. These streets so fixed and solid. Ah, shimmering haze. And everything I relied on disappeared. Downside up, upside down. Take my weight from the ground. Falling deep in the sky. Slipping in the unknown. All the strangers look like family. All the family look so strange. The only constant, I am sure of. Is this accelerating rate of change. Downside up, upside down. Take my weight off the ground. Falling deep in the sky. Slipping in the unknown. I stand here, watch you spinning. Until I am drawn in. A centripetal force. You pull me in. Pull me in. OVO Downside up, upside down. Take my weight off the ground. Falling deep in the sky. Slipping in the unknown.
I am watching because I selected My Mix" on U Tube....Peter's vids are a regular for me ... I know Google collects my info but I actually enjoyed The selections... So, overall, I really appreciate access to this entertainment and thank the folks that make it available to me
This song puts me to sleep every night. Believe It I have been though some bad stuff but I listen to this and God gentles my heart. I have a horrible government job working for a sweet Councilperson (complaint, complaint) and a boyfriend who sometimes beats the shit out of me. This song gives me comfort.
@TheDrLow - Tony Levin plays the "Chapman Stick" created in the 60s by Emmett Chapman, a real innovator with synthetic instruments and of course, synthesizers.
Thank you for the background information, Catherine...although it is neither a Chapman Stick that Tony is playing here, nor is Emmett Chapman a innovator with synthetic instruments, the "Stick" is a string instrument...;-)
I saw this tour and when they played this song there was a gasp in the audience in the middle up tempo section when we realized they were walking and singing upside down. Nobody noticed (at least i didn't - don't know if anyone could/did) they'd been pulled up during the wordless musical bridge. I must admit it took me a few secs to understand what the trick was having been taken by surprise 🤣🤣
Maybe 'cause is one of the most expensive shows his concerts cost in south america 1.350$ mexicanos for ticket. That is a madness for them... I'm from Catalonia and I wish a european tour already!!! I love his music, but i'd like a reunion with genesis... would be the maximum!! thanks for the video
I THINK I WAS BORN .... UPSIDE-DOWN " THOUGHTS" .... [ Need to talk .... ] think 67 68 69 .... YOU are finally Home .... [ ] and we are at ease in the stillness of our Lives ...
Ooh, I'll just shove my daughter in here.. Talented? Well, she's almost able to hold a note AND she's my daughter too.. Did I mention that she's my daughter? Anyway, I'm telliing the press that I'm looking forward to singing WITH my daughter at the next show.. Brexit works. England for the English. Where? Scotland? Maybe cancel that one...
