I wish that everyone could be this pure, holy, and in touch with the Divine. Peter definitely has a touch of God in him. I saw him perform when he was in his 60s. His energy level was the exact same. His voice had not changed. And I didn't want the night to end.

There are several live versions on RU-vid and this one isn’t even the best, I think. Check the Mandela concert and secret world concert versions. Although it’s Peter Gabriel’s song, I really like what Youssou n’Dour and Tony Levin contribute to the live performances. And Gabriel letting it happen and enjoying it.

According to Gabriel, the lyrics of In Your Eyes can either refer to a romantic relationship or a divine one between the listener and God. However, Gabriel has also said that this song could be an ode to a higher power. In the second verse he sings, I see the doorway to a thousand churches / the resolution of all the fruitless searches in your eyes. Later, he begs to be complete before realizing the subject already sees him that way. Both ideas are typical of the religious vernacular. Either way you choose to look at it, “In Your Eyes,” is a powerful track that expresses deep reverence.

There's an even better version filmed in the 2000s I believe, possibly in South America; the Secret World Tour version.

The Secret World performance had an even greater diversity and number of artists participating, and the feeling was one of pure joy. NO reactor finished viewing that without a huge smile on their face.

For me the song is about a 1000 opportunities and opinions (1000 churches) but it's only in your own eyes. Maybe we have to look more trough the eyes of the other.

Thank you. Definitely my favorite version of this song. As a studio version I find it a little boring. And live: Paula Cole does "lala uh uh Hey hey" nicely, but for me it's no replacement for Youssou N'Dour, who was part of the song from the beginning.

As one of his close friend over a long time, I do agree with you that he is a very good performer. I started following Genesis, and later Peter, from their first trip to NY. They are all amazing musicians. But I admire PG in particular. Music and lyrics always are a perfect match. Thanks for sharing this. 👍
