It's the fear of missing on a "generational" QB that keeps GM's up at night. I think they believe in Justin but if one of these top prospects turns into the next Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, etc then they will look like fools to have missed when they had the chance. Add to this the Bears have had about zero top QB's and now they have a chance to take "possibly" one at the top of the draft, holding a pick they didn't earn per se (thank you Panthers). I just think the management could very likely take Caleb or Maye or whomever they love and kick poor ole Justin out.

So, that means you've wasted DJ Moore's contract, Darnell Wright's rookie contract, TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds' contracts, Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon's rookie contract, Cole Kmet's contract, etc. The goal is to build a TEAM, not solely finding a HOF QB via a shot in the dark, because none of these upcoming rookie QBs are no-doubters. I trust Poles, but I'm all in on building around Fields and putting the best TEAM on the field, similar to how SF, PHI and DAL have built their teams.

Fields is a young talent with a good head on his shoulders and has proven to work hard to get better. DJ clearly believes in him. At #5 take Nabors, at #10(ish) take Bowers. But no, they're still trying to spot the next "generational talent", the man who transcends the team. A fool's errand, like Belichik, the luckiest QB-lottery winner of all times, would certainly admit.

@@pussydestroyer87 Granted, because he's got a great QB, but ALSO because he's able to outcoach his opponents in clutch moments. Last weekend, the Chiefs victory was clearly more a coaching victory than a sheer player/talent victory. Peace, 87.

We know Justin has the talent but he also has discipline, leadership, emotional maturity and he wants to be in Chicago. Are we sure if Bears draft another QB he will check all of those boxes? Mr. Simmons lost it. Fields is great and it’s stupid to say the opposite. He has bad stats because of injuries in the first half of the season of the Oline, bad bad playcalling with screens all day and his receivers drop too many passes. That’s how you get bad stats, so study it the right way taking in the whole picture. Sometimes it’s fascinating to me who’s getting paid to be an expert. It’s just far off, bc with his math ~ 23/32 teams don’t have a great QB under center. So let’s draft 23 QBs then ffs. Build the team up as we do it and we’ll be fine, if JF1 is not the QB in 2 years, we draft one into a ready to go team like the ravens did with Lamar. Mr. King thank you for a perfect understanding of the situation. Calm, realistic and making the obvious visible.

I have to agree with Peter. We have seen the possibilities, when teams are able to build a top tier roster almost top to bottom, before considering keeping their qb or moving on. Sf and Philly come to mind. @mobodogg
@mobodogg 7 месяцев назад
@werb24 You're assuming he is better. He hasn't played a single snap, and the likelihood of him succeeding is only about 40%. There's a reason why so many players, old and current, say Justin should be kept by the Bears. Also, you're forgetting that they could have another haul or at least quite a few high-end picks if they stay with Justin, and he still has 2 more years on his rookie deal. It's not likely if they go Williams that he will come in and light it up with the same talent. He would need time and more talent. So how is that any better? Plus, if Flus gets fired next year, then they would want a new qb, then not now. If you do that now, then you're back to how we always do it, and that hasn't been very successful, to say the least. Also, you're forgetting that this team in 4 more years will need more players to start replacing others. So now we're back to the beginning again. There has to be a time when you don't keep starting over, and see how we do. This last year was only the 2nd year of the rebuild. We need to try to trust the process and hope that year 3 it pays off, not start over back at 1 or 2.

Getting Harrison Jr. and the Bears already have Moore. There is no Burrow in this draft, i think Fields will have a better career than all, but maybe one or two QB in this class. I am only judging that by the miss percentage of 1st round QBs. Give Fields Harrison Jr. and watch the fireworks. Teams will be scared to blitz the Bears for two reasons. In no order, two game breakers on the outside and one would be singal covered. Number two, if no one is open, Fields can pull it down and run. I have not been watching the Bears play live, i have watched the highlights, and Feilds has looked good for most games over the last 6 weeks. Lamar is the only one who can run like him, and like Lamar, Feilds is going to get better at throwing. Right now, he is middke of the pack with only 1 good receiver and a pretty solid tight end.

And understand where the other guy is coming from too. if the Bears get a number one pick in the next two drafts as a trade and also receive a second round pick or good player then move down in the draft to a 10 to 13 spot is the best course of action. We all want to win big, but we do not live in Vegas and want to gamble on a rookie qb that may or may not work out. Picking a good QB prospect down the draft and watching to see if he develops and is any good behind Fields and Bagent is a solid strategy if the Bears have any underrated QB in mind. A joe burrogh or Mahomes comes along once every three or four years. But remember, Mahomes was not on the top of the draft list by many people and there was a lot of concern about CJ Stroud going into the draft. Yeah, it’s because he can’t keep all of that stuff straight. As an NFL QB you have to be able to instantly read defenses, understand route concepts, know when to get the ball out quick on hot routes, all while keeping your footwork and mechanics in sync with the play. Fields isn’t able to do that, and when people try to correct him, he complains. Time to move on.

I don't think that Justin has the FBIQ to be a successful QB in the NFL. However, I like his team-first personality and dislike that of Caleb Williams (Jay Cutler redux?). Let's not take the risk of Williams and the relatively untested Drake Maye. Build around Fields for now and use that #1 pick for a haul of draft picks.

Allow Justin's FtBIQ to develop some more, in a less constant state of "prove it now or else! " emergency. He's coming along nicely. Another year is a given now, and move on from there with certainty, with (I ope) or without him.

Spot on Peter. The amount of Picks the bears could get. Caleb is no Andrew Luck or Burrow. Keep fields and build.

Resetting the clock after tearing down the roster last year and signing all of those defensive free agents? The locker room would be a mess. It's time to make some picks on offense that will allow your QB to be elite, and also allow you to pay him in two years because you have the slew of rookie contracts and future picks from smart trades for future picks.

It's tough cuz you got 2 really good QBs in this year's draft. But, im with King. I think the Bears should keep Fields and continue to build. They have DJ Moore, but IMO they need Harrison Jr. A true number one WR who is elite at the position. And beef up the line. Get play makers, get an edge rusher. The Bears are close to blowing the doors open and becoming a threat. And I'm saying this as a Packers fan.

Who knows what those star college kids will turn into once in the NFL? Average good like Tua, Mayfield or Lawrence ? Busts like Rosen, Bortles, Wentz, Heinicke, Trubiski, Wilson, Lance, Young... The media hype is so loud and relentless, that teams are supposed to draft the new Mahomes or Burrow every year. They banter flashy phrases such as "generational talent" every two minutes, and send to the firing squad players who don't win a SB within their firts 5 years. Fortunately, Ryan Poles is not of that ilk.

Fields is in his 3rd year and he's still getting chased all over the field. Fix the offensive line, particularly the interior.

Getting rid of Fields for a what if QB is beyond stupid. Fields is a 35+ tot qb (barring injuy) and is still growing. That team needs talent.

According to these comments it seems like a lot of people haven’t been watching fields and just going off of recency bias. The stuff he struggled with in college he still struggles with in the NFL. He hasn’t grown much at all still not reading the field and slow on anticipation throws.

Only a handful of teams know how to develop a QB. Many of these coaches are only play callers who expect a young, very green, QB to run their systems, not draw an offence around their skills. The Bears, Jets, Panthers, Broncos should not be allowed to draft a QB.

The players have spoken I think that should be good enough. You don’t wanna bring a quarterback who the team already told you they don’t want. It’s going to ruin the chemistry.

So was JaMarcus Russell. His stats from his final year at LSU are almost identical to Williams' 2023 stats at USC. Russell was bigger, stronger, had a better arm, could move in the pocket, throw on the run, throw from different angles... and he crashed and burned.

Miles Simmons is just talking. Experts do research on the Quarterback and miss most of the time. Tom Brady picked at 199. Aaron Rodgers selected behind Alex Smith in the 2005 draft and Rodgers tried to get the Bears to sign him. The Bears blew him off. The Bears gave up draft picks to get Trubisky over Mahomes. Joe Montana selected in the 3 round of the draft. Andrew Luck was a number pick that was excellent. He quit in the middle of a pre-season game because his body got beat up. Indiana wasn’t able to protect good enough with their O line. He lasted about 7 seasons. That is not a long time for an excellent QB.
