The vocal blend on the original track is so tight, so fluid, and the harmonies and backing vocals mesh so beautifully that it has been impossible for me to separate them into discrete parts. Finally, after more than half a century, we get to hear Peter's part. You can hear Jerry's part pretty well in the live performance on the Mike Douglas show, and now I can unpack the whole thing. What an utterly brilliant work this song is, by a brilliant group whose debut album remains one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
As the years go by my personal attachment to the legacy of this artist and the legacy of his iconic band seems to intensify. Peter always exhudes a touching humanity and humility that calls for a "bond". To find such a personal presentation posted by his talented daughter only brings this fan closer!❤
Holy Spatulas.....from yer' kitchen to my living room.... Right there is the incredible talent that made Moby Grape what it was and is.. Five of the best musicians ever... Thanks Peter..
This song is so important and that guitar lick is so iconic that it shouldn't even be attempted by anyone outside the family. I can't tell you how good it makes me feel to see and hear this. The music of him and that band is a very large and important part of my life. Thanks to the both of you.
Kicks my 73 yr old ass to this very day. So grateful I hipped to this wonderful writer and 'Grape' back in '66. And in spite of all the travail, obstacles & demons this music shines on in this guy's heart and no doubt in many others. Also worth noting that your work, and the rest of the band's, in no uncertain terms, informed my own songwriting. Still does, amigo. Still does...
Yeah...what Randy King + Vito Tuxedo said. What a beautiful view into Peter Lewis' life and voice. To see and hear him play. It's a flashback and a substantive guitar lesson.
Would love to back you on this, Peter, on both acoustic and vocals. Just once before we're both gone... Performed it once, in a tavern down on the Connecticut shore, with a capable singer/guitarist pal. Stunned some of the folks who were sitting there. What a masterpiece this song is... You and Jerry. Lordy...
Peter....so nice to see and hear you after all these years. That gorgeous acoustic intro and accompaniment on the recording is still in heavy rotation in my musical world. Beautiful. Check out my originals here on RU-vid and you might detect some Peter Lewis influence in my songs. Your ability to go off the beaten path in search of beauty and wisdom has always been inspirational.
