Honestly, one can take a bath in Mattei's voice - it is so beautiful, warm, and honeyed. I like his ornamentation in the aria - some singers and conductors don't like ornaments, but it was common practice in Mozart's time.
The joke, in case anybody didn't get it, is that Mattei is ironically flirting with the princess by impersonating her husband. While singing the most honey-smooth version of Deh Vieni ever.

Senz' altro! I have to "ration" my "Peter Mattei" time...or I would get no work done. The voice is just...celestial, even when he's interpreting naughty characters...the Orpheus of the Opera world.

Jag kan inte förstå om inte folk fattade att han är bästa opera sångare från Sverige ute i stora opera husen..Svenskarna är inte opera nation,jag får alltid åka utomlands att lyssna bra opera..Kungliga operan har bara fint namn,men där finns aldrig top tenorer eller sopraner som tex. Danmark.Synd.

He is a bit naughty, but he makes Deh Vieni more romantic than "seductive" per se in this interpretation...he's still a gentleman! However, his most recent Met Opera Don G - ooh lalala!
He's got up to look like Daniel Westling--and was singing directly to Princess Victoria, who has the real Daniel Westling sitting next to her. And I believe that they had just been married earlier that day.
The mandoline player and Mattei both deliver a performance to forget. The mandoline plays a mistaken note (in the most known piece of the instrument’s repertory!) and then each one go by its side. Mattei always up and down in the placement of his truly beautiful voice, which makes it being slightly out of the exact tune many times throughout the piece. Also forgetting the traditional “cupa” voice for this piece. Not a good day for an excellent singer. How difficult is to sing Mozart…
