This concerto easely ranks among the better uploads of its kind here on youtube (in my humble opinion).
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. (The recording is no longer commercially available, sadly).
Nero played this concerto in Holland with Edo de Waard as conductor and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. Anyone remembers the details?
Sad to learn that Mr. Nero is currently involved in a court battle with his employer (The Philadelphia Pops). Saving money on art will degrade mankind.

One of the greatest pianist of the 20 th century, knowledgeable in different musical idioms. It's a pity most of his output had to go on commercial direction often sacrificing artistic achievements in favor of the more easy to listen arrangements of comercial tunes. Giant.

joseluislopezpianista I agree with you! It almost makes me angry that he muddied the waters combining pop/classical and jazz, While he certainly had each individual talent spectaculary the mixing of the genders somehow made me feel cheated. I so wish you had concentrated your gifts on classical or jazz......but not both!!!!

I have a different vinyl with these two! Rhapsody in Blue is my favorite song of all time and their version my favorite of all. It cures and soothes any heartache for me! Thank you for this post! Nero has always been my favorite pianist!

I bought this album when it first came out. I not only enjoyed his performance of the Gershwin Concerto in F more than any recording or performance I've heard (on the flip side of the album) but I fell instantly in love with his Fantasy, and most of my friends and family also fell in love with it. I think it is still relatively "undiscovered", and it would not surprise me at all if it ends up played a lot in the future. I have no idea why it has been so ignored.

Thank you so much for this video. This concerto is among my top-10 pieces ever. I also am proud owner of this record and still keeping it, although badly damaged after so many times of listening :-). I've got it from my dad, who got it as a present from his American colleagues in Moscow in 1976 (during the tribute to the 200 years of American Independence). Guess what: this has changed all my life: I started playing jazz, and my son is now playing "Rhapsody in Blue", and we all live in California! :-))

I also wrote to him about 8 years ago just to thank him for giving me so much musical pleasure over all these decades but I too received no answer.

Great news for everyone who loves this recording as much as I do. It's been released on CD, combined with "Nero Goes Pops." The British label Vocalion released it, and the remastering is terrific. (Vocalion CDLK 4552)

Hello, Mark Ira! Vocalion seems to have remastered many of my recodings and indeed the sound is exemplary, not to mention the tempi which are the product of a young stallion let loose from the corral. Now that I've reached the mellow age of 84 I've become more constrained. Hope you're well old friend!

@@peternero678 Amazing piece, man. I half heard it on the radio, or heard half of it on the radio I'm not sure, and then spent years trying to find it and eventually did, on new sealed vinyl back in like the late 90s. I just bought the Vocalion CD this week, mostly because I wondered if such a thing existed. Was happy it did. What do you think of this work I wonder?
@bedmac2

Totally agree...a spectacular piece. I heard it once on the radio (KUSC) but it took me years to find it. Snagged a still-sealed LP on Ebay for a price I forget, many years ago. Whatever it was I paid, it was worth it.Thanks for sharing this with others who otherwise would never get a chance to hear it.

Ravel, Khachaturian, Gershwin, yes....but Rakhmaninov? Too aristocratic unless you're basing on parts of his Paganini Rhapsody

A musical genius Peter! His unique blend of Music speaks for itself!! Think George Gershwin would've been proud of his Concerto in F's interpretation.
