Let me correct you Tundun. The reason why people are rushing now to get their PVC is not because of procrastination. It is because of the emergence of a third force that has produced someone majority of Nigerians believed is a messiah to lead us out of the current nightmare. I'm very sure you know that a similar trend took place when your late dad emerged a candidate before the notorious June 12 annulment. The system is like market forces. When all the conditions are right, demand increases rapidly. Nigerians didn't see any credibility in the moneybags until things turned around when PO exited PDP to another platform that puts him on the same level with those moneybags. If Peter Obi had lost the primaries, believe me, you would never witness the kind of demand for PVC in the manner we are seeing now. I know that as a journalist, you are doing your best to walk a fine line in your opinion and we give you a credit for that , but what I said is the opinion of the people. Secondly, one major reason why Nigerians sometimes procrastinate is because corrupt politicians and greedy bureaucrats alike have intentionally created bottlenecks in the system over the years to extort resources from Nigerians, and of course, this leads to a culture where Nigerians don't see any reason for wasting their time and energy on attempts that would probably yield no fruition. That culture is most likely going to see a gradual shift in direction when a responsible government comes to power.

INEC cannot be excused in failing to provide people with their voter's cards on time. No excuse whatsoever is sufficient. They have a huge budget. Let them deploy human and material resources to meet the current need. That's why they exist. Also, there's no reason why it should take more than 1 month for an individual to get their card after registration. INEC should wake up. It cannot disenfranchise people using these flimsy excuses. It's not operating in the stone age.

A Nigerian passport should be enough evidence that you are a citizen and have the right to vote. I’m an American citizen and I can vote with my Driver’s License. Everything in Nigeria shouldn’t be so complicated. Unnecessary impediments are being created by Nigerian government

Here in Canada no one goes to register to vote. They gov has every resident's info. The electoral body uses these to update their records, and add the list of citizens that just turned 18 years old and new citizens from naturalizations. During each election, the electoral body sends every citizen their updated voters card to their mailboxes. If there's anyone they miss out, the person can still vote by just presenting their gov-issued ID card. In forcing people to register before they vote, ability to deny citizens of the right to vote is apparent and legalized. I thought there's this NIN thing you guys did sometime ago? That should be enough.

I registered for my PVC in the early days of May. I did it because I saw that Peter Obi was running for President while he was in the PDP. I have my preregistration slip but I don’t have the card yet. I carried my NIN slip along to the INEC office but I was told it isn’t needed. It got me wondering what the use of NIN is for if they can’t get our bio data from NIMC. The system is really messed up for real. And people registering late isn’t an excuse for INEC to delay the card processing till January or February. New registration should be a sign that people are ready to vote so they need to have all hands on deck. It’s tiring for real.

Why do they register people in Niger Republic but not inside Nigeria.Why are they making the voting process difficult.

The deadline should only be ended 1 or 2 weeks to elections... While registration is ongoing the pvc can also be issued one doesn't have to finish before the other.... INEC should learn from banks issuing ATMs with 24hrs

Dr Reuben is speaking from a point of a failed country . How can registering, producing and distributing of a voters card of just less than 10 million Nigerian be a challenge of a "country" while serious nations are talking of relocating millions in 24hours. Shame on you Nigeria!

Thank you Rufai, the number of those that has the NIN are far more than those that have not gotten their PVC so what are we not talking about?

Typical of them, we have been here before, why should people collect their PVC card in Jan 2023 when you captured them in June 2022 ?, are you producing the PVC with gold and diamond ? Even if you are taking it to the space , it should not take you 2 weeks to produce all those cards. You guys always try to make simple things seems complicated so that you will have a pre-planned reason to justify the possible failures. Capture those people and get their PVC ready in less than a month. This January 2023 idea does not make any sense and certainly did not add up.

In the UK, you don't need the voter's card to vote. Once you are registered, your name is in the database and you can just turn up on the election day at your polling station which is sent to you prior to the election

Why wait for months to collect PVC? Banks issue high level security ATM cards within minutes.

When you have another Northern Muslim as head of INEC, what else do you expect? It is a strategy to disenfranchise Christians especially from the south. As far as I am concerned there should be no election, call for a National Convention. We must change the constitution first.

NIN number does not need to printed on plastic! It can be codified as NFC (into smartphone or wristband), QR, bar code, typed into a machine, etc. A single device can read from all these media and verify the NIN via cloud, secure text message, or even block chain

I am always very surprised when people especially the media think the sudden rush and surge in the number of people coming out to register is due to Nigeria's "typical ways of doing things". Yes, Nigerians always wait for the last minute But the surge you see in registration today is not a result of that. Before now, People didn't have any need to vote, they didn't see the reason to want to vote untill the polictial parties primaries, then they saw a light, a becon of hope, an opportunity of a posible better tomorrow and boobm - suddenly they want to register, they want to participate. to take away this fact is to live in delusion!

The voters registration process is obviously inefficient. If we want to improve, we may want to do the following: 1. Make sure every Nigerian citizen registers for the NIN. 2. The day a child is born, a NIN is assigned to them on their birth certificate alongside their ID card which can be renewable every five years. 3. For every official ID you register - eg Passport, Driver’s License, State ID etc, your NIN should be linked to them, so that you can use any ID to vote. 4. With that we would save costs.

It’s sad going through all this, polithiefcians have really failed Nigeria state. There should be Central Database that links all citizen’s (PII) Personal Information Identifier in a single/central portal, a lot of things are linked to Database such as Car Registration, phone number with identifiable address which will also curb crime. Obidient mantra: Southern youths are Obidient already,now remains how to penetrate North, so Northern youths too will be Obidient.

National Identity Number (NIN) should be enough for Nigerians to vote with. What's the essence of having PVC again when there is a central database of everyone through NIN.

We don't have to use only one. NIN where available and PVC or both as the case may be. Nothing is cast in stones. If Nigerians who want to vote cannot get their PVC, we either postpone the day or increase effort from the Government side to make sure everyone is able to get the card

Why can't the PVCs be printed in Nigeria? Things don't have to be that difficult. These are all deliberate ways to mess up the opportunity to take the country from the old gang and make sure things don't work.
