Lol, I think it was because she was entranced by how they look, they're very magical so it was like a first time for her too see once where you just freeze and admire how beautiful they are...but they are dangerous.
I personaly like Peter Pan 2003 better than Disney. It's very good movie. My favorite part was when Tiger Lily kisses John. I ship them even more than i ship Peter and Wendy
I wish they could extended this mermaid scene more so we can see more of them. Those Peter Pan movies always have short scenes of the mermaids except the Disney animated version.
I can't stop watching this. I just love the way the mermaid sneaks up and tries to seduce Wendy. Like she's saying "Come with me into the water little girl...and DIE!"
+Jiszelle New scary but wonderful! this movie is quite faithful i think... though JM Barries family was upset that its leads where preteens giving it more romantic vibe when in the book they are like 5.
+OtherworldCrown.FaeWords Also in the movie, it made it seem like the Darling siblings got to Neverland in only one night. In the book it takes them several days to reach the island. In the movie it also appears they were only in Neverland for a short time. In the book the children are away from their parents and London for roughly six months. Sorry for the late reply, I just finished reading the book again.
I LOVE THIS SCENE man this movie dosent get enough credit the direction i masterful and unique and its gotta be the best version of peter pan out there
These are personally my favourite of the creepily designed mermaids i've ever seen on film. The jagged teeth and cold blue skin really pull it off, plus the particular dark red they all share in hair, and even the spotting on the skin create a cohesive realistic design. And who could forget those expertly webbed prosthetic hands. Visionary. They deserve a show to themselves.
I always loved this scene when I was a little kid. It was so different than the usual “happy cheerful” mermaid type. I wonder if anyone made a movie revolving around dark mermaids?
It's not a movie, it's a series, but I absolutely recommend the serie Siren that talks about mermaids from a more "scientific" point of view, but still keeping the siren's call and other classic elements, anyway, it's a very good series, I recommend it
I love how the first thing she thinks about them when she sees them is how "sweet" they look when they're the creepiest part of this movie lol mermaids look so scary when in groups
@@aquatictwist The only time sirens are described they are likened to large menacing birds. The mermaids of Greek mythology were Nereids, sea nymphs and the children of Poseidon.
@@jdmangrich mythology pro here then why is there a mermaid goddess in greek mythology? also known as the queen of atlantis and poseidon husbend i forgot name
I never cared much for Peter Pan in any form until I saw this movie. This one made me like the story. More recently, and being much further into adulthood, I've grown to appreciate the previous incarnations more.
I like this version better than the Disney because in this version Peter Pan is very protective and sweet to Wendy. Unlike the Disney version, when the Mermaids were trying pull Wendy in the water, Peter didn't even try to help Wendy or stop the mermaids instead he just laugh at her while the mermaids are trying to drown her. Peter is more of a bully and psycho-crazy in the Disney version.
Idk in the animated version it wasn’t as serious a situation and Peter didn’t actually think they were going to drown her. Here the mermaids are deadly serious and creep af.
What helped more was that the actors Jeremy Sumpter (Peter) and Rachel Hurd-Wood (Wendy) actually had a thing for each other in real life then. They're still friends to this day.
Sirens evolved into mermaids. Also Disneys Peter Pan had mermaids that tried to drown Wendy too. Pirates of the Caribbean has carnivorous mermaids. So yeah... Disney has dark mermaids
@Klaud Siw sirens were only mentioned in Greek myth as bird-women who lived on an island and used their songs to lure sailors onto their cliffs. Once the romans adopted Greek myth, they changed the sirens to be more water based, and that soon mixed with the Northern European myth of the mermaid. So, sirens are half bird women, and usually mermaids were believed to be evil and bad omens
StrangerThingsGamer # other mermaids in the background: YOULL FLOAT TOO YOU'LL FLOAT TOO YOU'LL FLOAT TOO YOU'LL FLOAT TOO YOU'LL FLOAT TOO YOU'LL FLOAT TOO and yeah,y you get the idea 😂😂😂
This is accurate to the book, as to how the mermaids transform into scarier creatures at night. Would of loved to see them during the day too, although that might have freaked out audiences more.
I and my also friend did. In many ways, I used to think this movie was creepy AF as a kid for many reasons but now actually appreciate it more than Dinsey.
Disney’s Peter Pan may have good songs, a likable Wendy, gorgeous animation, a wonderful Neverland, and an entertaining funny Captain Hook, but the 2003 film has a better Peter Pan and Captain Hook is more evil which reminds you that he’s the villain.
With all of the controversy over that Disney film, I remembered this scene. These aren't pretty, friendly young women, but slimy, nasty aquatic monsters. The Swamp Thing is clearly a costume design influence.
These mermaids are a metaphorical representation of the capricious, dark and seemingly volatile disposition of nature. In general, the dark side of mother nature.
You all do realize that sirens are HALF BIRD HALF WOMAN, which is why they threw themselves in the ocean and DROWNED when they failed to lure a ship. Mermaids CANT drown
@@kirishimadoesntapprove3076 Pretty sure they're never the same thing. Sirens can be half fish, half bird or sometimes just magical women but I don't think any culture uses the term siren instead of mermaid.
i prefer the classic version better. these ones are evil and sinister from the start, in the original they dont attack Peter because hes local to the island but they try and murder wendy because she's an outsider. they actually had some personality and didnt actually look evil, which would lure peeps into a false sense of security
They literally took out the "non-important" scenes from the movie. Like, for an example, in the scene before Peter had an idea to build a small house around Wendy, they cut out the scene where they showed their dirty hands. 🤷🏻♀️
The mermaids or sirens are terrifying and hostile in this version of Peter Pan compared to other versions which portrays them as either comedic bullies (Example in the Disney and Fox kids versions) or beautiful helpers (Example in Hook and Pan 2015). The 2003 versions scared me as a kid too.
I love these mermaids for many reasons but the main reason is because they all have red hair. They are not your blonde mermaid, which has been done to death. They look mysterious and have beautiful long red hair
I like how a lot of movies aren’t afraid to show that mermaids are actually bad. There’s a chance that Sirens and Mermaids are different species. Mermaids are depicted as half birds that sing and mermaids are depicted as half-fishes with a beautiful voice almost like Sirens and just because they’re pretty and seem nice does not mean they are good.
I always dream about Peter pan some of them think that Peter pan does not exist but I really thing and always think about him because Peter pan exist in my dream and in my world
Ariel, who was lost at sea for years, came by as those mermaids were trying to hypnotize Wendy. She immediately got up on the rocks by Wendy and pulled out a gun she found on those evil mermaids. Those mermaids dived back into the water screaming and swam away. Ariel hugged the frightened Wendy and told her ,"Yes, most mermaids are sweet, but some are pure evil. Some have even attacked me", she said, pointing to a scar on her face. Ariel then turned to Peter Pan and told him, "keep Wendy under close guard. This is not a safe world for her, me,or anybody else. I must go now, and try to find my way back home." Ariel gave Peter Pan and Wendy a kiss on the cheek before diving back into the ocean and contiuing her quest for home.
................ does peter know more than one language? I noticed that he has no problem speaking to them in their own language............ then again.......... with how long he's probably BEEN there........ it's not surprising that he may know all the languages in neverland........... can anyone help me out? I've never read the book/books/however many books there are. I've only seen the movies they made about him. :)
Peter speaks the languages of the birds and the fairies. The mermaids speak English. It doesn't say that they have their own language, but it is mentioned that Wendy can understand them when they speak to her, which means they do speak English. It does also say that at night they "utter strange wailing cries," but it doesn't indicate that they have any real meaning.
The Disney remake is going to be a waste. This movie as well as the “Hook” movie have already been made. To do something that has already, just says to me that Disney is running short on fresh imagination
Narrator: Now Mermaids! Are Not Much In Storybooks... They're Dark Creatures! In Touch Of All Things Mysterious... If Hook Had Captured Wendy's Brothers? The Mermaids Will Know!... Wendy:Oh How Sweet! Are Mermaids Not Sweet? Peter Pan: They'll Sweetly Drown You If They Get Too Close!
I always heard that mermaids were really sea demons disguised as beautiful women who would drown Sailors who got too close this movie was one of the earliest movies to depict Mermaids as not so benevolent creatures I always thought it was a cool little touch to make the story no so fairy tale ish the only difference is I heard this trance to drown Sailors only works on Men not women
