Great Vid Peter. Very clearly explained. I’ve been FFing for over 50 years and have owned fiberglass over 40 years ago. I’ve casted the new FG rods just to see if anything has changed and found that they really haven’t. I do a lot of dry fly fishing and I have several Orvis Superfine graphite rods (7 1/2’ 3wt., 8’ 4wt. and others). Besides all of the disadvantages you mentioned I have real troubles with accuracy on fiberglass. With the FG slow rebound and recovery I find after my cast the glass rod just keeps wobbling on the tip like bad front shocks on a car. When casting delicate dry flies I want the tip of my rod to recover quickly and not keep wobbling. Also I know 4 1/2 oz. Vs 2 1/2 oz. doesn't seem like much, but after 2 hrs of fishing it certainly makes a difference!

I actually find Glass far less tiring than Graphite, as Graphite requires much more effort to bend and load, especially over a long day, heavier on the scales, lighter in the cast. glass also allows you to fish much lighter tippets with confidence, after 52 years I still prefer glass way better than Graphite and they don’t break !

My opinion is don’t get hung up on your rod, rather practice practice practice and know how to cast your rod inside and out along with your line system. Once you do this, you may or may not appreciate the latest and greatest. I’ve personally seen several casters cast old tech better than a person with high end equipment, the reason is they spent time to make friends with their equipment. Technically one will do better with one over the other but in the hands of someone who truly knows and spent time with there equipment it’s of little motivation to make a purchase.

🌴 So like many anglers I’ve ran into a problem, grew up swinging a glass rod since I was 8 , and I had moved to Florida half my life ago ever since I switched to a carbon fiber but with all its pluses it does have its negatives , carbon doesn’t feel 👈🏼 the same with its stiffness it doesn’t allow you to load up the kinetic energy, ya I know you can cast farther or whatever but it doesn’t feel like it , which throws my casting accuracy off , I’ve tried different things like heavier lines different tapers and that seems to help but it doesn’t change the feel 👈🏼 is carbon better especially for saltwater , yep ! It’s a stiff rod with a lot of back bone that you need for big fish with a lot of fight abilities, it’s lighter which helps when casting the flats all day, and they make you cry more when the wife slams the truck door on them 😕$$$$$$$$$$$$$$💸💸💸💸💸💸
