Unlike many in the Silicon Valley set, who often say the popular thing in public and the thing they actually believe behind closed doors, Peter Thiel has used his voice and his fortune to steer the country in the direction he believes is right-despite tremendous blowback. That was true in last year’s midterms, when Thiel threw his support behind two anti-establishment Republican candidates: Arizona’s Blake Masters and Ohio’s JD Vance.
But the billionaire entrepreneur and investor tells Bari in this conversation that he’s changing course. When asked who he’d back in 2024, he demurred. He says he’s decided to step away from supporting select politicians and instead is urging the political right to shift its focus from the culture wars to issues he believes matters more: like economic growth and tech innovation.
A lot is covered in this conversation. Why does Thiel believe that Democrats are the evil party and Republicans are the stupid party? Why is our infrastructure so far behind other nations? And why are Americans so impressed by the apps on our phones instead of dreaming of the next Sputnik? Also: A.I., China, TikTok, Twitter, the right way to defeat what Elon Musk musk calls the “woke mind virus” and what Thiel’s going to bet on next.

the effort and thought put into this animation is insane. For an audio snippet of a podcast at least. Nice job.

This was very.. something, both not to the point but so general that no point could be made. Maybe somebody could figure of why 50% of the country has recently concluded that parenting is censorship and children posses the life altering responsibility of gender reassignment? If that could be explained then how boldly declaring equity of outcome through race and gender or whatever group is the in thing of the moment is also embraced by these same enlightened souls. This should be equally easy to explain. I'm lost on how these ideas are not derided as near insane by a vast majority.

Vague word salads are the bread and butter of these fake intellectual types like Thiel. don’t know why that bothers you though since these charlatans are on your side.

Personally, I don't think things are broken. But there are very weird ideas floating around the U.S. media, and culture...let see what Peter Thiel has to say. There must be a way to make America great again without having to go through a collapse like Rome or greek empires...

When it was saving the world from Hitler? I could go on but America's been pretty great for most of its history, you can be great and also have terrible flaws.

I was unfamiliar with Thiel other than knowing he had something to do with some tech startups. Then in a different podcast the hosts mentioned him as some sort of evil figure. So I searched some videos of him to find out more. After watching a few I'm agnostic as to whether he's a good or bad person. But I am confused as to why people seem to think he's worth listening to. His main talent seems to be filling time with anecdotal stories and random trivia that sort of pertains to what he's talking about without saying anything insightful. This was similar, a bunch of words without saying anything meaningful. Does anyone have a link to a video where he actually says something interesting?

There will be no ideologies or views 100% new in the near future, nor shall we simply time travel back to a point in the history. So what we will settle on is we will keep a good number of our traditional values but embrace some new elements as necessary. No matter how the appearance varies in itself, being reformation or revolution or anything else people want to call, essentially there are only 2 major inner forces driving the world to change itself, that is equity and efficiency, albeit in different times and geographic areas one is more emphasized over the other. And don’t forget that we cannot go to the extreme either way, as otherwise we will end up with disasters very quickly and both equity and efficiency will be deprived from us. So even the range of that ratio is pretty limited.

Wow, nothing of value was said. One wonders if this is just a kind of "temperament" people are promoting.

Thiel's right wing multi billionaire viewpoints are something I have zero interest in.
@siggyincr7447

The problem with what he has to say has nothing to do with his being a billionaire or his political views, it's that it's boring. His answer was time-filling fluff. Had it come from a poor communist it would have just as senseless. Assuming that you can't learn anything from a person because you dislike or disagree with them only leaves you to stagnate in your own development.
