The Monkees took over the radio station KDWB (on August 3 and 4, 1967), and here's some of Peter and Michael's air time. Audio via Radio Tapes (Historic Minneapolis/St. Paul Radio Airchecks), specifically, Curt Lundgren, Phil Kitchen, and Jeanne Anderson. No copyright infringement intended; sharing solely for historic purposes.
This wasn't the first time Peter was a DJ; as he told MPR in 1987, “I was a DJ on KARL radio [at Carleton College].”
Photos in this video by Chuck Boyd and Mike Barich.

This is cool! You don't often hear Peter and Nez riffing jokes together like this. Ends with Pete on banjo playing "Cripple Creek" that he'd do at concerts in '67.

KDWB was my radio station when I was a teeny bopper in the twin cities.

I don’t think they “hated” each other. They just didn’t jibe together and both were the real musicians of the group, so I think that can either make for musical chemistry or not. They were just different people. I think Micky and Davy balanced out the group. Nez was a bit high and mighty I think, opting out of participating in the 80s. Pete was a perfectionist, so I think that was the rub. Davy and Micky were the lead singers, so I think they were out of that Nez/Tork situation…but both are gone now and it’s all such a shame now.

Very good explanation

Michael Nesmith was a busy man in the 80s. He was functioning as an executive producer on indie films, a music video director, scouting comedy talent for a television show and most importantly, running his own business, Pacific Arts. A CEO of a business can't just take off on tour for several weeks, whether he wants to or not.

On the subject of Peter and Michael - there are more quotes (all filed under the tag "Peter and Michael" at thislovintime.tumblr.com), but to let Peter's words speak for themselves: “Well, I’ve never been really close with Michael [Nesmith] for some reason. You know, I have a lot of respect for him and admiration. But somehow we’ve never integrated. We’ve never been warm with each other. We worked together and did pretty well at it really.” - Peter, Clevescene, March 13, 2017

its strange hearing this knowing Mike & Peter hate each other guts ,this is acting. Mike did let Peter stay with him and his wife in the Monkees early days.

Don't you think the problems only really started with Nez and Peter when Peter pushed away from Chip Douglas and started recording on his own? At this time the Monkees were still a united front - touring and recording in the studio together.

I don't think it was hate relationship at this point. I think the hate and dislike for each other came as the years without Mike went on. More at about the HEAD period I think is when it set in the most.

I don’t think there was any hate between the two of them

Nez said they "never had a kind word for each other" on TV after Peter died. Didn't you see the interview?

@@CoriolanusQuince And yet Peter was photographed with Nez on his tour bus when Nez did his solo shows in 2013; I think Nez exaggerated at times. While they were not the closest, there were bouts of appreciation. During the time the Monkees got their hollywood star, Nez has his arm around Peter the entire time and they are sharing a private conversation, laughing together. Any relationship like theirs has it's ups and downs.
