Your so cool Ezra you have old red I have big red.shes been sitting for almost a year I have terminal cancer so im driving her home to Calgary and park her for z while..love your videos.
Ezra: "This is not intended to haul a 30,000lbs pintle hitch (trailer)". Proceeds to weld up a hitch that looks heavy duty enough for a 30,000 lbs pintle hitch trailer. :-)
That turned out great. Definitely built right for the application. Also I laughed pretty hard when you said you wouldn't hang a planter from that chain. That was great.
That old 359 just gets better every time a new video pops up....makes me miss the '84 I drove years ago. As far as over-engineering the hitch goes....only thing I can think of to improve would be to reinforce the crossmember itself, but then again for what you're doing it simply isn't necessary. Keep up the good work....
Geat vid and that's one solid fabrication!! Definitely need that drop section on the ball hitch though so that there's a bit more "over the top of the hill clearance" for the tow arm. Nice work!!
Now it’s time to get a rear bumper to match the front on your Toyota! I’m loving the fact that you build Ol Red to be functional and not just show quality. Keep it up buddy!
Hi bro, I have a long experience about trucks, but I admire you, because you rebuilt the old red yourself without anyone helps. I would like to know, I am from Colombia, but I live in Canada, take it easy and don't stop surprising us!
Chineseium... I'm stealing that 😂 Another quality video feller. Definitely happy I stumbled on your channel many moons ago. Keep on building and trucking 👍 🇬🇧 uk trucker 🇬🇧
i was thinking a couple minutes into the video theres no way the toyota is 1800 pounds but as usual ezra your work is well over its station, great vlog and another string to old reds bow.
The hitch turned out well. You are a brave man posting trailer hitch videos on the internet. The keyboard warriors have a field day even if what you build is better then you can buy. They feel that a 12 year old Asian kid is a better fabricator
Lmfao !! Chineseium safety chain !!! What a laugh .... i had tears running down my cheeks. A very useful idea putting that hitch on Old Red! As always i love the video. Cheers Ez from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺🐨🦘🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇸
You must get your hitch building techniques from j.c. Smith. OVERKILL! I love that yota you never see those were im from. I'm probably gonna copy this for my cabover I wasn't sure how to build a hitch for it but this style should be good for my car trailer or campers if I ever had to move them.
Ezra, you need a drop hitch, maybe 8" or so, so the tow bar is level! With a ball hitch, at that angle, if you have to panic stop, all the stress is on the lock down lever, and it will fail! Ball hitches need to be as level as you can get them! Great job making the truck part! Or you could move the attach points on your PU up and out, so the tow bar is level, and it folds up more vertical!
great to see one of the most underrated guys giving us a video..btw..South Dakota has thee best Governor..the respect she has shown the police and offering them a job won me over..no woke crap allowed...
Good job brother, always looking forward for watching your next project! The only thing that I would done different is just put a drop down hitch your is way too high! Other than that everything is perfect as always!
Porter greetings! Well, it might be a Chinesium hitch and chain, but the chain does need to go! 😠 I always thought that it’s better to go above and beyond any weight rating you might expect…that way you’re not sorry later. I like an integrated hitch on any truck, especially a semi. Hey, you didn’t want any rusted bolts on that crossmember anyway…it may not give you good ground. Lol! The other good point is that the hitch isn’t hanging down and in your way. Did you have to replace any bulbs in your light bracket after you dropped it? Lol! I like those brackets and wish I could get a couple extras. Looking around. That might be a good thing to get at a junkyard or dealer. New ones are way costly! 😳 Good ideas and good work! Thanks! 🤩
Question???? The angle of the Hitch and the Receiver to the Towbar is the angle going to be Safe on a Hard bump or hole it's not going to unhitch??? Just asking Awesome Video as always
Do you have a drop for you receiver hitch? I probably would try to find one to get the tow bar more flat so there’s no chance to get it into a bind going over tracks. What are your thoughts on welding the gussets solid versus having the inside corner open? I used to work for a big crane company and we built all kinds of equipment for jobs. A lot of their designs had inside corners not welded and back cut a bit. Also make sure you have the truck in neutral. One of the crane companies I worked for a guy towed a Ford Ranger with transmission in reverse. 😬🤣🤣 We ended up putting a new motor and transmission in the truck.
Love your video's!! You should use a 6" or 8" drop receiver so the tow bar is a little more level because if you go up a driveway or an incline it might bend the tow bar
Great vid, I always was told that when towing a vehicle or trailer that the tow hitch and tow ball should be at a height that is parallel with the vehicle or trailers main frame / chassis? So I would in my view lower the tow ball between 2" - 6" to give more flexibility in the pivoting areas of the A frame tow hitch. Or make a Swan neck in the A frame. This is just my idea, not a "this is the right way" view.
Beautiful job, like you said at the end, a big drop hitch, and ready to go. The way you reinforced the cross member, it looks to be good to tow well North of 14,000 lb. Best wishes all.
I pretty sure a Fabricoed up will hold up just fine even if it rather light duty. That said I do have some serious concerns about the tow vehicle because personally think it’s a bit low on horsepower to pull that Toyota pickup and definitely not sure the brake system of the intended tow vehicle is up,to the task. If it were me I would either have someone ride in the pickup truck to trail brake the truck so not to overheat the brakes on the tow vehicle. 🥸😁😎
You done an awesome job of describing watt u are not going to tow behind old red so that should keep the comments to a sain level ay lol lol ...so watt was the main reason for towing the toyota behind because u do most of your repairs just curious keep up the good work 👍
In what situations will you be towing the toyota? In other words, how will this be useful? Im thinking maybe a situation where you do power only at the same location multiple days in a row, it would allow you to keep the pete at the job site.
old red going camping is that right Ezra??? the A frame way to short needs to be longer thinking of puting a a frame on the ATV when I'm out seeding have to call for a taxi or one on the Ute ...over here you need an engineers certificate to modify a vehicle to add add a hitch to vehicle and stamped too which sounds like BS but 8 grand to get tow hitch built certified and rated
Nice job but you know just as good as me that since you reinforced the hitch they way you did you are curious what you can actually pull with it by about fall👍
As always, good job, EZ. When you tow the pick-up, do you have to tie the steering wheel to the pedals (so the front wheels don't swivel)? Just curious. Anybody?
