Just a good ol' boy born and raised in Alberta, Canada, I’m the proud owner of this 1979 Peterbilt 359 rescued after it was left for dead in a farmer’s field.
Originally used for hauling heavy equipment in the Alberta oil fields, my Pete later ended up pulling a gravel belly dump b-train until it was eventually “retired” to haul the occasional hay bale load for local farmers before being parked in a field near the owner’s home near Mundare.
In the late 90’s I learned the art of trucking from my cousin driving an almost identical 359. I went on to become a mechanical engineer working for a large international corporation but all the while never losing my love for classic trucks and always had my sights set on a twin stick 359.
After placing an ad on Kijiji looking for one, I was contacted almost immediately by the owner of a Pete with a 6x4 Spicer who was very surprised that anyone would want a two-stick transmission. I went out to see the truck that weekend and ended up buying it “as is/where is” (see Season 1 episode 1). I ended up mounting new tires and wheels on the front and had it towed home.
Powered by a Caterpillar 3406A, it has a deep reduction plus Spicer 6x4 double overdrive transmission. The tractor is all original but unfortunately suffered from generations of mice growing up in the interior while it was idle.
I’m currently in the process of restoring this Pete and plan to use it primarily for personal use when finished. I’m looking forward to driving it to shows or the lake with my 5th wheel camper in tow.
I’m not planning a “full classic resto,” but rather a “make it as nice as possible” and as close to original as I can. Planned upgrades include a drop visor, 8-inch straight pipe miter stacks w/pickett elbows, new Bostrom low rider seats, upgraded sleeper, new interior, Texas Blade front bumper, chrome air cleaners, polished tanks and wheels, lots of lights, train horns, classic dual round headlights, and a new paint job in Peterbilt Sovereign Blue with Seminole stripes.
My backyard DIY outdoor restoration of this classic truck in the sun, rain, snow and wind is currently being fully V-logged on RU-vid … checkout “359Twinsticks” to see them all / @twinstix

Those motors sound great! Always enjoyed that sound when I would ride with my Uncle back in the 70’s when he drove a truck.

Wow sounds a lot better than the first start video! Guess you been turning a wrench or two on the motor since the first start. Keep the videos coming! I'm a Mack fan myself, but I always love seeing old iron come back from a long slumber.

kman 4443 not 2 much, changed the fluids/filters and a little tinkering is all. It’s a great engine - previous owner said it always fired with a half turn of the crank ... he’s not wrong this thing starts better than my ford diesel 😆

Bernetta Collins the guy I bought it from picked it up in a local auction in the early 90s and it was his pride and joy. Very grateful that he was willing to part with it allowing me to live out my dream of rescuing a twin stick double over

@TwinStix 6 лет назад
phillijp haha nope guess I’m not doing a road trip to Cali
@stuntlife420
@stuntlife420 6 лет назад
and even in California you do not need a def tank it is only a dpf filter its called retro fitting and only needs to be done on a truck 1985 and newer being a 1979 he does not need to do a retro in California. and being he is only going to be traveling into California he only has to show a 5000 miles in the state. but man is that a sexy peterbilt cant wait to see it when it is finished

ya I know it’s short ... wanted to share how well it was running and roll a little coal but didn’t want to run that long as I was running open turbo w/no air cleaners at that time

I thought so . I knew you were going Jerry it up.. Did you at least check the air filter can's or change the motor oil ...I'm pretty sure your a joke and wouldn't know the difference between a Restoration & a rattle can engine rebuild ... What a waste Of machinery ...

Michael Laverty dude chill out ... I’m working on my dream truck but don’t have unlimited funds, time or facilities. This is a project that I’m going to continue to pick away at and do my best to put this old girl back on the road. Whatever I don’t know how or can’t do I plan to farm out. Rescuing her from where she was sitting is hardly a waste but thanks anyway for your comments

This guy probably watches those restoration shows where they restore shit in a week. That's only possible when you have a crew, money, tools and the hook ups for parts. And plus that's all there doing that time is working on the the project. Some people have lives and don't have all of that. 359 Twinsticks is doing an awesome job. He's doing a lot more than you probably are. He just made a new subscriber. Only compliant I have is I wish the videos were longer. Because I can't get enough of this beast.
