Hi Mark, I would use the inserts for your visor. If you ever had to replace a windshield you have to take the visor off. It is much easier to unscrew the bolts than it is to grind off the rivets. Just a thought. Can't wait to see it finished.
Love the videos Mark. Coming from a long time body man, you don’t want to fill holes with just filler. It will eventually crack and fall out. Go the extra mile and weld or epoxy a washer or something to reinforce the back then fill the holes.
Mark that visor looks super sweet! Can't wait to see it all complete. For painting, have you considered parking the truck under the car hoist? That would be a super stable and safe platform for you to work, plus it would give you a huge range of heights to work with.
Glad your giving made props to truck shrouds, they were the nicest and most helpful when I ordered and needed help. Also you can take those fenders off for proper prep and paint.
Little sandblaster with a soft medium to blast around the rivets and hard to get crevices to remove paint. Problem with roof condensers is cold air goes directly on your head and you get cold air. Red Dot roof condensers are very common in Australia. You can buy them new and heaps of parts available including fibreglass cover.
I hate to say it but filling those holes with body filler and sanding the surface flat is probably going to come back and haunt you later....it will probable pop/crack at the hole as things flex/vibrate. The best course of action if you want to fill and not weld is bond something such as a small piece of aluminum in behind the hole to seal it, make the outer edge of the whole slightly concave with a light tap of the ball end of a ballpeen hammer then fill after scuffing the surface, this way it backs the hole and gives something for the filler to adhere too and you're not just creating a filler plug.
💯 also i really wish he would use an air board instead of a da sander for doing big flat surfaces , that's gonna have more waves than the pacific ocean sanding body filler with such a small and aggressive sander
i do paintless dent repair.my trainer had a long nozed pete this week we took off hood and set it on floor aluminium hood 100 dents on top from rolling through texas in storms when it was done looked like nothing ever happened.owner allowed 2 holes to be drilled through grille cause he was wanting a new grille anyways which helped alot.but saved his shiny paint 10 hours 5800 dollars.most petes are hard cause the clear delaminants from sun hard to fix dents if you caint see them whitish look
Hi Mark you have to put the ac and cover on top of the roof oh that takes me back to the days when I started driving. I’m like you can’t wait till it’s finished to see it.
Another great episode Mark. I wonder could a 2 x 40 containers fit along the back of your shop that you could put a proper well sealed door into from your shop to allow you to use as store rooms wheel all stuff out of way when not in use. Keep you shiny parts clean when you sanding and spraying.. Clear lots of space and be less covers for overspray. Just an idea for a winter project.
Hay mark as you were talking about the condenser covers, I noticed the picture on the wall behind you of the BJ and the bear in the moving on truck. Nice picture. Keep up the good work.
Did you not paint the sleeper from KW when it was off truck. You do have overhead crane, would be easy ti lift off & on,just a thought.Keep up the vids love them
Should have just used a spacer between the two exhaust brackets no hole drilling most likely you did not have to move the cab exhaust brackets since you are not using mufflers
Hi Mark Are you going to put the bug shield back on If you don't I would like to get it from you If I could get it I would like it if you could autograph it for me
@TwinStix gotcha, probably would take away some resale as this truck is going to be fairly valuable when it's done. Really great Job on the truck. My dad had a Hayes dump truck for years. I love trucks
Mr. Mark, please check your email I sent you last week please. I know you are busy but I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder 🙏🏽 Thanks in advance.
Mark, I don't believe you just put bondo over those holes. You have so much money into that truck, and now you stuff the holes with body filler. Come on, man, you are better than that... I think
I’ve had the fenders off on the last hood if you go back a bunch of episodes and that’s a lot of work to cut off a dozen hucks on each side #juiceinstworththesqueeze
@@TwinStix OK I didn’t know that I think I was thinking about was the reaction between the two different paints because you have a chemical reaction that will bubble right there
Mornin Mark, I like the old style visor, the right shape and just the right amount of shine, Thanks for sharing your tips in your video's Mark I got another one from you in this video I'm sure I'm going to use, Have a great week Mark say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us .
Well, gee, Mark! You should always pead the opsrating instructions. 🤣🤣🤣 The box may also be marked "Make in China". AC condenser behind the grill is a good idea. Kenworth thought it was a great idea and they had their "Grilldenser", built as a part of the grill. Once again, Peterbilt is trying to catch up to KW. 😁
I like the look with the shroud on top of little by little it gives that old. Look especially with the new stainless visor for the windshield it's awesome you're doing a very well job keep it up Mark
I always reed an Opsrating instructions, every time, oh if it helped, I was yelling that you need to put something behind where you're going to use filter, soys you can sand ladder, 😁and when you were working on the front fender, that chrome insert sure would look great with that blue paint.🙂Thanks for the video Mark, take care see ya next one.🙃
Since you used Bondo Glass on the cab corners how about sealing the insides underneath with zinc chromate allowing it to dry overnight then cover with 3m Rubberized spray to have a air tight seal, just a thought!!!
The visor looks nice Mark. It's certainly been polished a lot better than the so called polished factory visors that Pete put on the trucks back in the 70's and 80's. I detest drop visors that cover almost half of the windshield. I know you like the straight stacks, but personally I like mufflers with the factory heat shields and grab handles. I've heard that there isn't anyone making reproduction factory heat shields, and it would be next to impossible to find original shields that are like new. Looking at your reproduction a/c condenser cover got me thinking about the availability of factory heat shields. Maybe that's something that they could start making. I have no doubt that there would be a big market for them. Your new cover looks a lot better made than the original covers. They were a little flimsy and didn't hold up very well sometimes. I still like the look of having the cover on the roof. I've been around trucks since I was born in 1961, and that's how trucks were that had a/c. I started driving truck when I was 18 (1979) and by that time Kenworth came out with their "Grilldenser" system that did away with the roof mount... I remember Freightliner kept using the roof mounted system for a while, but I can't remember when they stopped.
You need to be careful with cheap nutserts. For your use, it should be fine. But if it was a working truck they don't pinch tight enough and will vibrate loose over time. The ones used from factory are different
Your totally wrong with the rivnuts... i use a a manual rivnut gun aka like a manual pot riv nut gun.. never had a problem.. used one a side cill.. at 10mm bolt
Hey Mark please don't put that air condenser on that 359 little by little please please don't do that to that truck it had the seven lights across the top with the air condenser and it didn't look right I mean the paint job was nice but otherwise 🫳 I think that's the hand emoji for maybe maybe not
The type of metal makes a difference. Stainless is much harder to collapse. I used to use threaded rod and nuts inside (if Possible) and out. Using the outside nut to pull them up.
to get those corner areas front to back removed, couldnt you use blasting and just be done. seems like it would be worth the $ (but its not my money, its yours)
You do know when Blake welds the holes where you put the bondo the bondo will fall out or catch on fire. You should have waited on filling them in until after the welding was done.
There a fella in new Brunswick he makes all custom stainless steel you name it he can do it he made my window chops for my truck im already on the works to get him to make my new truck chrome next one im going all out not crazy just simple old school chrome and lights
Hi Mark, with ref to the holes in the cab corners.. could you not just Huck Bolt them and make it a feature on the cab skin.. save trying to fill em with glass fiber .. that might crack with the cab stressing / moving about .. Keep up the Cracking good work on the Old Girls .. Andy UK ..
