My grandad worked there in 70s. He was a hard man but he was fair and he didn't need help from anyone else to control someone.

The Prison Service wasn't allowed to use CS gas or Stun grenades at the time. The SAS/Army could which is why the siege ended so quickly. If the Scottish Prison service had trained personnel and access to the equipment used, their staff could have dealt with the situation.

@@DannyCaffekey Defo, screws in Greenock were all local when i was there 30yrs ago so no hassle no beasting no liberties taken by the staff actually helped you and treated you like a human being. In Bar though late 80s early 90s most of the staff in A hall thought they were on a different planet as few cons inside knew them or where they lived etc. heard more than a few screams after dub up all over A hall and in the wendy right below where I was. Usually in Bar the younger they were the worse they were. even saughton and the ranch were nowhere near as bad for staff in my opinion.

I always worry when Tories are in power though, as they make anybody suffer not any use at being a slave for the upper classes, bankers who want our economy closely linked with New York banks encouraging greed and debt and their donors who live in tax havens. They start to take over the media, getting ordinary people to bully those who need help to survive, while telling us to cheer on some minor royal who lives in a free mansion and has free everything else. Then they start to make policies that drive the sick, vulnerable and poor to desperation and food banks. They take away hope from communities, making millions unemployed, telling them it's their fault they're unemployed, and if their children want to go to university they make our universities the most expensive in Europe. While making people think they will suddenly as if by magic start caring about British people if we leave the EU.

so if you kill someone with no family you get to go free? or what if your family don't like you and wouldn't miss you? what if the people who broke the prison don't have the skills to fix it? like if they smash the windows but none of them are glaziers? what if someone was in for a week remand and was there when the riot happened, should they stay in for 50 years if they don't know how to fix the prison? a lot of holes in your plans to reform the criminal justice system

We need houses so bring back Manuel labour teach them to build houses say they build 10 houses sell 5 to pay for more land and costs eg mortar bricks teacher inspector and give them a qualification in building. So when they leave they leave with something basically make them hate going to prison because of the forced work why also making them pay back to society for doing damage to it productive punishment/rehabilitation (main problem with this is the human right complainers) but they lost there rite as a human until all is payed back and sorry for the crime also eye for a eye in law is wrong it should be eye for two eyes double the consequence of the action
